3) Switch Device 49 E1
The tongue is made as a flexible spring-rail-tongue (FSCH). The switch device is composed of the flexible
tongues and the stock rails with mounted tongue supports.
A heater can be installed using electrical heating rods, as the necessary recesses in the components are provided.
The flexible tongue consists of the tongue profile, the end of which is forged onto the standard rail profile and is
connected to the standard rail by means of flash-butt welding.
The welded area is provided with safety fishplate and is positioned in the flexible part of the tongue. The tongue's
standard rail is provided with flexible sections.
The stock rail consists of the standard rail profile and is correspondingly machined on the contact surfaces of the

The two connecting rails (vee – rails) in case of the Single Crossing resp. the connecting rail and the guide rail in
case of the Double Crossing are machined on the head and on the bottom and welded together.

7) Rail Fastening 49 E1
Ribbed base plates and K-clips “KP6” and “KP3” are used to fasten the rails and constructional parts to the
sleepers. The stock rails are elastically fixed with the inner stock rail fastening.
The parts of inner stock rail fastening are designed in such a way that the spring element touches the rail foot
flatly or at least linearly.
The slide chairs need lubrication in service.
The ribbed base plates are produced from rolled steel web or from welded sections of the same or are made from
flat steel plates with welded on shoulders. The width of the plates and hole distribution is such that the same
turnout plate sets can be used for wooden bearers as well as concrete bearers with 4-hole plates.

The turnouts are operated by one clamp point lock and manual setting device.
The adjustable Clamp lock TEMPFLEX I for Single Turnouts 49E1
The size of the lock is adapted for the usual switch machines and the tongue position controllers.
The setting path is 220 mm, the tongue opening approx. 160 mm. The minimum space between the open tongue
and the stock rail is 58 mm.
The clamp lock consists basically of the screwed lock housings, the two fish tails, the double insulted and glued
valve rod and the two eccentric bolts of the fish tail clamps.
The clamp lock facilitates longitudinal movements between the tongues and the stock rail (+/- 10mm) and can be
adjusted easily by turning the two eccentric bolts into adequate position.
The clamp lock is trail able at low speeds (30 – 40 km/h).

Turnout bearers made from hard wood Oak, group 3 (26 x 16 cm), shape 1, according to UIC863, part 2.1.2 and
2.3.2, impregnated. The standard bearers length is 2,6 m, the lengthwise spacing 0,2 m. The timbers position in
the turnout is “fan shaped”.
In addition to the UIC standard UIC863 (untreated wooden sleepers), the European standard EN 13145 (untreated
and impregnated wooden sleepers)
From every turnout type, one right hand and one left hand turnout will be fully mounted on concrete sleepers as
prototypes. For these turnouts, all plates and elements are to be installed on the sleepers.
The prototypes will be operated, the operation forces will be checked and measured and the proper function of the
setting system will be checked and noticed in a protocol.
11) Anti rust protection
Machined surfaces and welded joints are provided with rust protective coating.
First they are to be cleaned and dried.
The coating must be dry before they come into contact with other surfaces.
All steel parts with the exception of slide surfaces and threads are sprayed with a linseed oil coating.
All machined slide surfaces and moveable parts must be cleaned, dried and provided with the appropriate oil
lubrication. Lubrication free sliding elements and plastic parts must be kept free from coatings and lubrication.
12) Scope of Supply of the turnouts 49 E1
The scope of supply according to the contract and to the enclosed drawings, includes:
The whole track components of the turnout and the check rails with the supports and studs,
All plates with the necessary fastening elements and small materials, including sleeper screws and
intermediate plastic pads for rails for the whole turnout,
All plates with the necessary fastening elements and small materials, (including sleeper screws and
intermediate plastic pads for rails) for the special bearers in front of the turnout and the special bearers behind
the turnout until to the standard sleepers of the connecting tracks,
The wooden bearers of the turnout, the special bearers in front of the turnout, the special bearers behind the
turnout (standard track sleepers are not included),
1 Clamp locking device,
1 manual operation device (switch lever block, bearing and rod)
The fishplates of rail joints
Not part in the scope of supply are
The Switch machine with its bearings and rods,
The Switch blade position controller (“Zungenprüfkontakt ELP”) with ist bearings and rods (is not foreseen in
