Chemical Register Guidance Notes
■ Conduct a review of all chemicals stored and used in the workplace and appropriately dispose of those chemicals no longer
required;
■ Review chemicals listed in the Chemical Register against what is stored and used in the workplace. Delete any chemicals that are
not in your workplace and add any chemicals utlised which are not listed (Note: This may include multiple entries of the same type
of chemical but different brands);
■ The quantities of chemicals should be listed as the maximum amount stored in the workplace at any given time (in litres or
kilograms) including empty or partially empty containers (e.g. if you have 4 half filled, 1 litre bleach containers stored in the
workplace, this should be entered onto the Chemical Register as 4 litres of bleach);
■ The prepopulated chemical information should be used as a guide only when completing your Chemical Register. Chemical
classifications (i.e. Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Substances) will differ between brands based on the type of packaging used and
chemical make up (e.g. if a product is packaged as an aerosol it will become a Dangerous Good and different brands may use
different active ingredients or concentration levels);
■ All chemical information (e.g. Dangerous Goods Class, packing group number etc) must be entered into the Chemical Register as
this will affect how the total quantities are calculated; and
■ When adding chemicals to the Register, select and copy an entire row (from the prefilled entries) and paste back into a new row in
the Register and modify to reflect the chemical that is being added. This will ensure the same drop down menus are available and
total quantities will be calculated correctly.
