Nicola Cassidy and Heather Smith
After meeting at the 2005 Run for the Cure
as departmental captains, Nicola and
Heather created the vision of one big
super UNB team for the 2006 event.
On March 29, 2006 the first meeting was
held to form the foundation of the team.
On the agenda for our follow-up meeting

setting, and recruitment of new team
members
“What‟s in a Name?”
The campus wide team naming contest ran from
April 10-17th. We received over 40 entries

Our Logo
UNB‟s own Promise Mwenga designed the
team logo which was the basis for all
things rUNBuddies including posters,
banners, golf balls and temporary tattoos

• The bottle drive was a great success, bringing in over
$1800 in donations
• Ten teams went around the city collecting redeemable
recyclables while the President of UNB, Dr. John
McLaughlin manned the BBQ at the Southside
Redemption Center

• The first ever Pink Ribbon Golf
Tournament held at Kingswood was a
driving success, raising close to $10,000
• The format was a Nine and Dine featuring
a putting contest, varsity Reds caddie
auction and nine holes of golf followed by
dinner in the clubhouse.

100 pink ribbon ducks were raced down a
man-made water course in the SUB quad
for a number of prizes. Also set up for this
event was a healthy food sale.

run day finally came.
The Fredericton site had 2800 participants,
raising over a whopping $380,000 !!
