2010 – 2011 VA DECA District President Handbook
August 2010
VA DECA District President,
As District President you are the frontline of Virginia DECA. You represent one of the thirty districts that
Virginia DECA encompasses. You are responsible for representing your district as a whole to provide an equal
voice amongst all of Virginia DECA’s 14,000 members. Being a District President for the state of Virginia comes
with an accountability that is not expected of most DECA members. It is important to know that as a District
President you are held professionally responsible to relay information to your assigned chapters from Virginia
DECA and also relay information from your chapters to Virginia DECA. This not only ensures that the chapters
have the materials they need to function, but also that Virginia DECA is providing a fair, comprehensive, and
positive experience for all members of the state.
This manual is meant to teach you, as a District President, what Virginia DECA expects of you during the
course of the 2010-2011 school year. Inside this manual you will find a contact sheet, a list of important dates to
remember, information on the new diamond, a breakdown of Virginia’s 5 new regions, tips on efficient
communication, as well as your responsibilities and duties as a District President.
This year is a very important year for DECA in that we are focusing on expanding as a national brand. We
hope that the enclosed information will help you lead your district into a positive and professional DECA school
year that will enforce the reputation of Virginia DECA on a national level.
Sincerely,
Charlotte Perkowski

Section H: District President
As a district president it is important that you stay up on the top of the different changes within Virginia
DECA and National DECA as a whole.
Changes in National DECA
As you may know National DECA has changed its logo into a new diamond. But that is not only thing
that has changed within National DECA. In addition to the new logo, there are rules and regulations that
you and your districts must follow while using the diamond in order to avoid logo infringement. A list of
the Official National DECA logo agreement is pictured below. With the new logo there are also eight
guiding principles rather than the four points of the diamond. Those guiding principles are
It is important that you get the word because you are a crucial part to the communication between you
and your chapters and you and the Virginia DECA State Action Team.
Changes in Virginia DECA
Moving onto the major change in Virginia DECA, there will now be five regions rather than three areas.
These regions were created in order to better represent Virginia DECA membership to the fullest. The
regions will be named Region one, Region two, Region three, Region four, and Region five. Each region
was formed to balance the membership within in the different areas in Virginia DECA. The districts that
are included in Region one is are District 8 through 11 and District 19. The districts that are included
within Region two are district 12 through 17. The districts that are included within region three are
District 23 through 26 and District 18, 20 and King George High School. The districts that comprise
region four are district 27 and through 30 and district 21. And finally the districts that consist of region
five are district 1 through 7 and District 22 and Colonial Heights High School. Though these regions do
not take affect until after the 2011 State Leadership Conference, it is important that you educated your
districts and the chapters that comprise those districts. For a more detail break down of the regions you
