2009 HOMECOMING KING AND QUEEN SELECTION:
RULES, PROCEDURES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In order to be eligible for the 2009 Homecoming King and Queen Selection, a person
must be enrolled as a full time student at The University of Iowa (currently enrolled
in 12 semester hours or more).
2. The applicant must have senior status (90 semester hours or more). Graduate
students are more than welcome to apply.
3. Applications must be turned in to the Office of Student Life, 145 IMU, by 4:00 pm
Monday, September 21, 2009. You must submit 10 copies of your application along
with 10 copies of each recommendation form. Application submitted without
recommendation forms will NOT be considered.
4. Applicants will be selected for an interview by a panel of judges and will be notified
by Monday, September 28, 2009, regarding an interview. Interviews will be held on
Wednesday and Thursday, September 30 and October 1, 2009, time TBA.
5. A panel of preliminary judges will review each application. The panel will consist of
impartiality; the names of the judges will not be released until the interview.
6. Each preliminary judge will score the applications based on the following criteria:
a. Involvement in University activities and organizations
b. Academic pursuits, interests, and achievements
c. Demonstration of leadership skills and abilities
d. Service to the community
e. Thoughtfulness and skill shown in response to questions
f. Enthusiasm and sincerity
7. Scores given by all preliminary judges will be compiled and broken down as
such: written essay, 50 points, resume, 30 points, letters of recommendation, 20
points.
8. The interview will consist of standard questions, which will be posed to all
candidates. The questions will pertain to the criteria given during preliminary
judging. In addition, judges will be allowed to ask questions based on the
candidate’s response and/or their applications.
9. The 2009 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced on Friday,
October 9th at the Pep Rally following the Parade.
Court Responsibilities:
Attendance at the following 2009 Homecoming events is required:
Sunday, October 4 - Movie Night
Tuesday, October 6 – Havoc @ Hubbard
Wednesday, October 7 – Sports Night
Thursday, October 8 – Iowa Shout
Friday, October 9 – Parade, Pep Rally & Concert
Saturday, October 10 – Football Game
*There is a possibility that a radio interview will be added to the schedule. You will
