                     President’s Message
In a previous President’s
message I alluded to the use
of humor in the workplace.
Over the course of this year
I’ve located some funny
quotes that I can share.
Although some of these are
just plain funny, others have a
hidden meaning, and you can
see that they poke fun in
many cases at a variety of
aspects of our profession.
This should serve notice to us
to communicate with others in plain language, advance the ethical status of our profession, and
attempt to avoid technical jargon as we present ourselves.

 What is the definition of an accountant?
Someone who solves a problem you did not know you had in a way you don't understand.
 What is the definition of a good tax accountant?
Someone who has a loophole named after him.
 What do accountants suffer from that ordinary people don't?
  Depreciation.
 There are just three types of accountants: those who can count and those who can't.

And then there’s the story about the talking frog and the accountant…

A man was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll
turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog, and put it in his pocket.

The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I
will tell everyone how smart and brave you are and how you are my hero." The man took the
frog out of his pocket, smiled at it, and returned it to his pocket.

The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I
will be your girlfriend for an entire week."

Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you that I'm a beautiful princess, that I'll tell
you how brave you are, and even be your girlfriend. Why won't you kiss me?"

The man said, "Look, I'm an accountant. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog is
cool!

Take the opportunity to shift the image of our profession by dispelling the stereotypes and
creating a new paradigm for the accountant. Just be sure to keep your sense of humor along
the way.

Also, we will be hosting the High School State Rugby Championship and will need
volunteers to help with various aspects of the event. It will be held on Monday, May
26th, Memorial Day, starting about 9:00 and running until approximately 3:00pm. This
would be a fun opportunity for anyone who may never have experienced the excitement
of Rugby. It’s a fast-paced game which combines elements of American Football and
Soccer.

We are in need of volunteers to greet and take school groups through the museum or
the Historic H. Breeding Farm. We will provide you the information and you supply your
willingness to share your time.

You can lend a hand at BCHS “Signature Events” like “Spring on the family farm”, the
Reeves Festival, Homes Tour and much more! There are a variety of opportunities that
exist with mailings or helping out as a receptionist.

Also available is assisting with our herbal gardens and kitchen gardens at the museum
and farm. There are also volunteer opportunities in collections, conducting oral history
interviews and transcriptions along with genealogy research.

Please don’t hesitate to call or email for more information or suggestions if you have
other interests or areas of expertise. Located on the second floor is the Cline-Keller
Library, established for the purpose of collecting genealogical and historical archival
materials used for research. The collection is made up of maps, photographs, family
histories, city directories, cemetery records, yearbooks, files full of general business,
organizational and community events, and other publications related to the local
heritage.

The Historical Society receives requests for local information from all corners of the
world. Questions have even been answered from descendants of General Joseph
Bartholomew. Contact Kevin Keith for more information at info@barthist.com or call
372-3541.

Points
As you may already know that our chapter will automatically get points for you passing
the exam. However, you might not know that we also get points for the time you spend
studying for it. We would recommend that you wait until you actually pass the exam and
report the number of hours to us so there will not be any change in the studying hours.
We will get one point for an hour spent studying. The maximum points we can get will
depend on the number of study hours suggested by your study materials for each part
of the exam, which can vary. For those of you that have taken the exam, please
send the following information to Warittha Thiragirayuta.

Exam Part: (1, 2, 3, or 4)
Pass date:
Study Materials used:
Number of hours spent studying: (Hours claimed cannot exceed the "recommended
study hours" in your study materials)
