1 AN ACT prohibiting the electronic printing of complete credit card
2 numbers on certain sales receipts.

4 BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of the State
5 of New Jersey:

7 1. No retail sales establishment shall print electronically more than
8 the last five digits of a customer's credit card account number or the
9 expiration date of that credit card upon any sales receipt provided at
10 the point of sale to the customer, except that the provisions of this
11 section shall not apply to any sales receipt in which the sole means of
12 recording the customer's credit card number is by handwriting or by an
13 imprint or copy of the credit card.

15 2. The Attorney General of the State of New Jersey shall adopt
16 those rules and regulations pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure
17 Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), necessary to effectuate
18 the purposes of this act.

20 3. This act shall take effect on January 1, 2004.

23 STATEMENT

25 This bill prohibits a retail sales establishment from printing
