CBT Math Mini-Lesson

Activity Template

General/Contact Information:

Name: Tina Bellon Email: tina.bellon@cpsb.org

Tracey Winn tracey.winn@cpsb.org

School: Iowa High School Grade Level: 10

Subject: Math Geometry Specific Skill: Points, Lines, and Planes

(Algebra, Geometry,

Trig, Calc, etc)

Activity Title: Points, Lines, Planes and Space Lesson 1-2 class

Duration: sessions

GLEs 5. Form and test conjectures concerning geometric relationships including lines, angles, and polygons

Addressed: (ie, triangles, quadrilaterals, and n-gons), with and without technology

17. Compare and contrast inductive and deductive reasoning approaches to justify conjectures and solve

problems.

Mini-Lesson Procedure:

Objectives: 1. Identify and model points, lines, and planes.

(list all that apply)

2. Identify collinear and coplanar points and intersecting lines and planes in space.

3. Present findings in an Inspiration concept map or a Word cube.

Procedures:

Pre-Assessment for Points, Lines, and Planes Activity

1. Pre-Assessment: The teacher will pre-assess students’ knowledge of points, lines, and planes.

(It would be most useful to pre-assess student knowledge prior to the lesson introduction. This would give

teachers knowledge of how advanced in skills students are or which skills need to be further addressed.)

a. The teacher will utilize the standard teacher created pre-assessment.

2. PowerPoint as a teacher tool: The teacher will present the GEE warm-up, an introduction/teaching video from

Unitedstreaming, other lesson samples as needed, and close with a exit card summarization.

3. Students will watch the Unitedstreaming video clip - Points, Lines, Planes, and Space.

Points, Lines, Planes, and Space

The students will see an introductory video clip giving information about the building blocks of geometry.

They will see different shapes and how they are put together. Then, they will look at the relationships

between parts of one shape and another.

.

4. After monitoring and determining student needs the teacher will provide more examples. (These examples can

be taken from Glencoe transparencies already on the PPT or other.)

5. Collaborative Groups: Student’s technology product.

Inspiration group: students will create a concept map.

Cube group: students will fill in the six parts of the cube sample Word document.

Final products should include:

- Definition of a point, a line, and a plane.

- Graphics to illustrate each term defined.

Group Activity Group 1 Small group will complete the activity Group 2 Small groups will collaborate to complete

Tasks: using Inspiration software. the activity using the cube sample Word

document.

(identify what each

group will do-at least 2

groups required)
