Past Simple - Past Continuous
Απλόσ Αόριςτοσ - Αόριςτοσ Διαρκείασ.
We use the Past Simple for a complete action in the past or for a past
state. / Χρηςιμοποιοφμε τον Απλό Αόριςτο για μια πράξη που έγινε
ςτο παρελθόν και τελείωςε ή για μια κατάςταςη ςτο παρελθόν.
Examples:
1. She cleaned the floor yesterday.
2. He left the house at half past eight.
3. He died in 1997.
4. I had a bike once, but I sold it.
5. We played this game a lot when we were on holiday.
6. I met him in the park three hours ago.
7. They didn’t finish the project last week.
8. Did you go to the cinema last Sunday? - No, I didn’t.
9. How long ago did you see them?
10. Why did she leave so early?
We use the Past Continuous to say that we were in the middle of
something. / Χρηςιμοποιοφμε τον Αόριςτο Διαρκείασ για κάτι που
γινόταν ςε μια οριςμένη χρονική ςτιγμή ςτο παρελθόν.
Examples:
1. The baby was sleeping at nine o’ clock in the morning.
2. I was reading the newspaper when the fire broke out. (ξέςπαςε)
3. Mandy was cleaning her teeth when the lights went out.
4. I was looking for a coffee bar when I met Helen.
5. While he was digging in the garden he hurt his leg.
6. While I was doing my homework Dad was watching TV.
7. What were you doing when the fire broke out? - I was cooking.
8. What was she doing at one o’ clock? - She was having lunch.
9. When I saw him he was wearing a brown suit. (κουςτοφμι)
10. I was having a shower when the telephone rang.
11. What was Nick doing when you visited him?
