Chapter 3/4/5 Review:
Events
-Amy is a Chameleon, adapting to the people around her.
-Students are often separated into their own racial/social group
when hanging out at school.
-Otero explains the stereotypes of the class system they will use in the
Color Game. (What Blue, Dark Green, Light Green & Orange mean)
-Adam chooses an Orange and Amy chooses a Blue.
-Inferior colors must bow and listen to anything Superior colors say.
-Paul Thomas (a lower class black student) takes advantage of being a
Blue.
-Adam must bow in front of others people.
-The G4 police demand that students play the game fairly and report
on one another (and they can check journals whenever they want).
-Amy/Adam are worried about not being able to spend time together.
-Amy demands that Justin repeatedly bow to her.
-Adam keeps asking Amy to get demoted.
-Amy sticks up for herself and tells Adam that she wants to
experience the game as a Blue.
-Amy vows to really play the game, to try to change people’s prejudices
(Prejudices happen 24 hours a day)
-Teks = Women, Superior sex and No-Teks = Men, Inferior sex.
-Lower colors Justin and Adam got fined money where as higher
colors Paul and Amy only got warnings.
-Carol tried to get Dark Green friend Carol to sabotage the game with
her – but was worried that she would fink on her to G4 Brian.
STEREOTYPES OF THE CLASS SYSTEM
Blue –
upper class (rich, successful, respected, superior)
Dark Green –
upper middle class (workaholics, trying to do more)
Light Green –
lower middle class (most numerous in society, don’t have it easy, trying
to keep head above water)
Orange –
lower class (often out of work or on welfare, large families, often no
father figure)
1) Sabotage – deliberate destruction.
2) Impudent – mischievous or disrespect.
3) Inconspicuous – attracting little attention.
4) Depraved – corrupt/really bad.
Sex Discrimination:
Teks – Superior sex (the women) – better than
No-Teks – Inferior sex (the men) – less than
No-Teks must curtsy (fancy bow) to Teks of a Superior color.
