My Employability Skills
Your Name
Part AInstructions
There are 2 elements to employability skills: personal attributes (soft skills) and
tangible skills (hard skills).
Personal Attributes
On page 2 there is a list of attributes identified as desirable by employers.
At this stage in your life you may not have all these attributes. However please tick off
those attributes you consider you have and then choose 3 of your attributes and describe
how you have displayed them in your work life or community activities.
Employability Skills (hard skills) are skills that you have acquired through your
formal studies, previous work experience and /or community activities or volunteer work.
Increasingly employers are expecting potential employees to be able to identify their
employability skills. These skills cover 8 areas and include:
Communication
Team work
Problem solving
Using initiative & enterprise
Planning and organising
Self management
Learning
Technology
On pages 3 to 7 each employability skill has a list of sub-points which will help you to
identify what skills you have under each skill area. You may have all or only some of
these sub-points depending upon your experience. You are to read the guidelines given
and then reflect upon your experience and identify skills that you have.
It is expected that you will download the Employability Skills Checklist (Part B) and
then fill it out as required and then print it out and hand to your teacher.
