First Grade
Our Body Has Parts
• We have arms
• We have legs
• We have shoulders
• We have a head
• Can you find these
body parts on you?
We Have Organs
• We have a heart
• We have 2 lungs
• We have a brain
• Can you point to
your heart, lungs,
and brain?
We Have Senses
• Smell • Taste
• Sight • Touch
• Sound
Sight
• The sense of sight is very important. It is
what we use to see. We see light from the
moment we open our eyes in the morning until
we go to sleep at night. You also use your
sense of sight to see colors.
Smell
• You use your nose and your
sense of smell to smell
things. We can smell lots
of different things. Some
things smell good, like
flowers or your mom's
perfume. We like to use
our noses to smell good
things. But, some things
smell bad, like a skunk or a
rotten egg. We don't like
to use our sense of smell
to smell those things.
Sound
• We use our ears and our
sense of sound to hear
things. Sometimes, sounds
are too loud, and we have
to cover our ears so that
they don't hurt from the
noise. But, some sounds
are nice to hear, like
pretty music or birds
chirping. We like to listen
to those kinds of things.
Touch
• We can use any part of our
bodies and the sense of
touch to feel things. There
are lots of different ways
that things can feel. Some
things feel soft while
others are hard or rough.
And, some things are hot
while others are cold.
Taste
• You use your tongue and
your sense of taste to
taste things. Everything
has a different taste, and
your tongue can taste
every one. When you taste
something that you like,
you want to eat more of
that. But, sometimes
something tastes bad, and
you don't want to eat it.
