Performer’s bio (in the order of appearance)
JUDY LIN WU Before joining the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in 1998, Judy Lin Wu was the associate
concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. A native of Taiwan, Ms. Wu came to the United
States at age eleven to study at the pre-college division of the Juilliard School. She then continued her
undergraduate and graduate studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the Juilliard School.
Ms. Wu has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the
Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Wichita State University Orchestra.
STEPHEN FANG has been Assistant Principal Cellist of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra since 2007.
Prior to joining the NJSO, he served as Assistant Principal of the Aspen Festival Orchestra and Assistant
Principal of the Akron Symphony Orchestra. He has been a member of several quartets, including the Verklärte
Quartet and Svanito Quartet, which won the Grand Prize at the 30th annual Fischoff National Chamber Music
Competition and First Prize at the 56th and 59th Annual Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competitions. He has
appeared as a soloist with several orchestras, including the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland
Institute of Music Orchestra, the New Jersey Philharmonic, and the Montclair Chamber Ensemble. His teachers
include Carter Brey, Richard Aaron, Desmond Hoebig, Stephen Geber, and Eric Kim. He earned his Bachelor
and Professional Studies degrees at the Cleveland Institute of Music. When he is not playing the cello, Mr.
Fang likes to cook, practice martial arts, hike, take photographs, and listen to nearly every genre of music.
CHING-LING CHEN After graduating with the first prize from the prestigious National Taiwan Normal
University in Taipei, Taiwan, Ms. CHING-LIN CHEN continued her studies with Dr. Arkady Aronov at the
Manhattan School of Music, where she received her Master of Music degree. She has performed as a soloist
with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the Taipei Flute Ensemble Academy, and has also given recitals
and chamber music concerts in the US and abroad. Equally passionate in teaching and performing, Ms. Ching-
Lin Chen maintains an active teaching studio in New Jersey. She currently lives in New Providence with her
husband and their 8 year old son.
SOPHIA AGRANOVICH has performed internationally as well as in the United States. She won the
Ukrainian Young Artists Competition at ten, being the youngest participant, and the Bergen Philharmonic
Competition in Piano. She earned her Bachelor and Master degrees from the Juilliard School, where she held a
scholarship and a teaching Fellowship. Among her professors were the legendary Sascha Gorodnitzki, Nadia
Reisenberg, and Felix Galimir. Ms. Agranovich began her doctorate studies at Columbia University and joined
faculty of Town House International Music School in NYC, which were followed by 23 years to a successful
career in information technology, including seven years as a Vice-President at Merrill Lynch. Sophia is a
member of the Private Teachers directory of the Juilliard School, and a lifetime member of Madison „Who‟s
Who among Executives and Professionals‟.
Hailed for her “…maximum insight and fiery brilliance in her keyboard approach” by critics, BEATRICE
LONG has performed as a soloist with Baltimore Symphony, National Symphony of Mexico, National
Symphony of Taiwan, Taipei Symphony Orchestra and the Jura Symphony Orchestra of France among others.
A top medalist from several international competitions including the Cleveland International Competition and
the World Competition of Cincinnati, she has gained critical acclaim as a solo recitalist, a recording artist on
the Naxos label and a duo pianist of the Long Duo. She has concertized throughout the US, Europe, Asia; and
has performed in Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall and the National Concert Hall of Taiwan. Her concerts in
Ravinia, Spoleto, Fontainebleau and Champagne (France) Festivals and recordings have been broadcast by
Radio France, National Public Radio USA, CBC Canada, NY TV1 among others.
