            VERNON HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP HANDBOOK

The scholarship/financial aid booklet is complete as of October 1, 2010. We strive to
complete this booklet as quickly as possible so students and parents can spend time
researching which scholarships fit each student, as well as their financial needs.

Clubs may change the person who is in charge of their scholarship so be aware that
scholarship amounts, dates, and contact people may be subject to change. Keep
track of deadlines and when in doubt, ask the counselor. There are many scholarships
available and completing and turning in applications earlier along with asking for
recommendations from teachers/counselors is the best practice. If you need
recommendations give your teacher/counselor plenty of time and be prepared to
supply them with a completed resume and a list of things that are unique about you.

Another good place to check for scholarship information is your counselor’s webpage.
There you can find recent and updated scholarship information.

                                                                                        1
          THE REQUIRED PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATIONS

1. Make a list of all the scholarship applications you want to receive on a full sheet
of paper. A typed list is best, but not required.

2. Put your name and date at the top of the list.

3. Give the list to your counselor, who will record the date when she received it.

4. Return to pick up your applications within one week. The date will be noted
when this is given to you.

5. A copy of your list and the date you received your applications will be made and
   kept by the counselor.

6. Complete your applications neatly and be sure to include all information,
transcripts, recommendations, essays, or other required information. You are
responsible for making sure that your application is complete.

7. Transcripts are obtained from Mrs. Weitner. You need to sign up with her to have
these printed in advance of when they are needed. The first one is free.
   Additional copies are $.50.

8. Return your completed application to the correct person. Most of the applications
are returned to the counselor. Some are to be mailed or delivered to other people.
Make sure that you return your application to the correct person by the deadline.
When in doubt, ask the counselor.

9. When you return a complete application, your counselor will require that you sign
the Scholarship Receipt Sheet to indicate the date and name of scholarship. Do
not leave an application in the office without verifying that you turned it in
   properly.

10. There will be possible deadline changes by local sponsors. Please read the news
letter and listen to senior announcements. Scholarships turned in AFTER a
deadline will not be eligible for consideration.

11. Begin all applications in plenty of time to do your best work and make sure it is
complete and correct. Waiting until the last minute to apply will result in less
   than satisfactory work.

12. Remember to ask someone for a recommendation letter at least two weeks before
you need the letter. A teacher, coach, employer, sponsor, minister, or counselor
cannot do a good job on your recommendation with short notice.

                                                                                         2
