Concept Word Map
Descriptor: A concept map is a special form of a web diagram for exploring
knowledge and gathering, organizing, representing, and sharing information. It is a
diagram showing the relationships among concepts.
There are a variety of different forms that this graphic organizer can take.

Adaptation for Age levels – with older students, use more complex concepts.
Expectations for sophistication of work would increase with the age of the students.
For EAL students, spend a lot of time “talking” about the concepts, using appropriate
academic language. Display the Concept Word Maps for all students to see. Have the
students share their Maps and ideas with their classmates.
