Hi BOR and CCAO, I understand that everyone might be very busy doing other things, but I've been trying to get this issue addressed since early October. That's six going on seven months, and it appears that both the BOR and Assessor's Office, both copied on this note, have all the authority they need to make this correction. So I simply don't see where any more delay is warranted. Could we have this corrected by the end of the day today? And I see no reason a swift response couldn't be in order. That is the statute that gives you the authority to correct my exemption. --- On Thu, 3/19/09, Crooked County, Illinois <crookedcountyillinois@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Crooked County, Illinois <crookedcountyillinois@yahoo.com> Subject: My exemption issue - NEW FACTS THAT ESTABLISH THE BOR AUTHORITY... And I'm currently working on providing that letter by the end of the day that I promised. In the meanwhile, I have to address with you some information that I believe is very URGENT. I just got off of a conference call with Terry Shaffer, Joelyn Marr, and Loren Stouffe at the Illinois Department of Revenue, and according to them, the BOR has the final authority to review the homestead exemption in 35 ILCS 200/16-70, and that the statute is very clear that the BOR has the authority to correct this issue. Could you please correct my homestead exemption that was incorrectly applied in my October 2008 installment and, correspondingly, my March 2009 installment that was just overpaid (at 50% of 200's unnecessarily high tax)? This is way overdue and very urgent. Otherwise, I may have to go to court to get this issue fixed by filing a "valuation objection", as Jim Houlihan's office has repeatedly refused to correct my issue. And although the three BOR commissioners receive alot of contributions from private attorneys who file valuation objections for a living, I'm sure you'll agree that it would

be unfortunate if private citizens found that this was the only way they could get their exemptions corrected. And when I go on my media tour to talk about the tax dispute system in Chicago, I'd really like to be able to say that the BOR fixed my exemption issue instead of a private attorney. Because I'm sure that would alleviate any concerns that the public might have about the role that financial contributions to private campaign funds have on the BOR review process. Cordially, David N.
