In 1956, reorganization of states took place. This saw the
beginning of the creation of linguistic states and the process is still
continuing. In 1990’s some of the larger states were further divided
both to meet the demands for a separate state as well as to meet the
need for a greater administrative efficiency. The Bihar, UP and
Madhya Pradesh were divided to create three new states. They are
Jharkhand, Uttaranchal and Chhattisgarh respectively.
