Orchid Gap Analysis Project

   • Purpose is to establish a site priority list for the development of
     new orchid reserves in Ecuador.
   • Project managed by Ceiba Foundation for Tropical Conservation
     in association with Fundacion EcoMinga and Lorena Endara.
   • Project will use Endemic Plants Red List for Ecuador together
     with plant and climate distribution maps to delineate areas of rare
     orchids.
   • Project funded by The Orchid Conservation Alliance at $15,000
   • Project start date June 1, 2010; finish date Dec 31, 2010.

Reserva Rio Anzu Guard

   • Primary purpose is to protect the Reserva Rio Anzu from
     inappropriate activities such as tree cutting and orchid theft.
   • Secondary purpose is reserve maintenance.
   • Funding is $5000 per year, on going.

Quito Orchid Society Reserve near Quito

   • Primary purpose is to enlarge by 771 acres reserved areas in
     Pichincha Province west of Quito adjacent to the 1080 acre
     El Pahuma reserve.
   • Reserve will be managed by the Quito Orchid Society in
     collaboration with El Pahuma reserve.
   • The area is the only known site of Dracula navarrorum and also
     holds many locally endemic Ecuadoran orchid species.
   • Total project cost is $192,000.
   • The Orchid Conservation Alliance has pledged $35,000 towards
     the total; other participants include IUCN-Netherlands, the Quito
     Orchid Society, and private Polish donors.
   • Purchase anticipated during 2010.
