Mark Laster
The Outreach Committee finished planning its calendar for the
upcoming year over the summer, and our first event of the
year was the Second Annual Community Wide Seudah
Shlishit, held on September 12. This event was a major
success, with close to 200 people attending, and an exciting
program featuring Irwin Reiser, who discussed how members
of our Young Israel of Forest Hills family welcomed him and
his wife Tova, and how he reacquainted himself with an old
friend at last year’s First Annual event. Rabbi Geiger, the Rav
of Queens Jewish Center, spoke about Seudah Shlishit, and the
importance of outreach especially during the Yomim Noriam.
Rabbi Oppenheimer spoke about Selichos.
We would like to thank the sponsors of this event who stepped
up to the plate during these hard economic times to make this
function possible: Anonymous, Rosie and Mark Friedman,
Marianne and Alter Goldstein, Malka and Simcha Livshitz,
Lillian and Abraham Kaufman, Mr. David Baron, Iris and Eli

Blumenthal for working so hard in organizing and planning
this program, with Robin Holcman and the office staff
working "behind the scenes". We would also like to thank the
members of the Outreach Committee who diligently come to
our meetings and develop our programs. They are: Hilary

The “Kol HaEzrach Succos Initiative” is the next step to reach out to the unaffiliated in our community. This initiative helps
us to fulfill the commandment of the passuk “L’man Yedu Doroseychem” – “that the future generations will know”, and give
every Jew in America the chance to sit in a succah.
To help accomplish this, we are asking our members to invite someone less affiliated, and share their succah (or your meal in our shul
succah) with them. What could be easier! Kiruv materials and pointers will be available from Rabbi Oppenheimer or the shul office.
