About the Artists and the Schedule
Friday, July 24 from 6 – 8 pm at Courthouse Square
           Kenny Neal
Kenny Neal, born in New Orleans and raised in Baton Rouge, began playing music at a very
young age, learning the basics from his father, singer and blues harmonica master, Raful
Neal. Kenny is known as a modern swamp-blues master and multi-instrumentalist, that draws
musically from the sizzling sounds of his native Louisiana. At age 13, he joined his father’s band
and began paying his musical dues. Four years later, he was recruited and toured extensively as
           Buddy Guy’s bass player.
Signing with Alligator Records in 1988, Kenny began releasing a series of consistently lauded
albums featuring his laid-back, Baton Rouge blues, with a modern spin on the Louisiana sound
           he grew up with.
After relocating to the Bay Area in 2004, Kenny began hosting his own local cable TV program,
“Neal’s Place.” The show features Kenny jamming and talking with the many international blues
stars he has met and performed with, as well as local artists he has spotted at festivals and clubs.
Filmed in front of a live studio audience, “Neal’s Place” has a relaxed, informal atmosphere that brings
out the best in the artists, while giving an unscripted, improvisational edge to the performances.

After Party at: Deseo Tequila Lounge & Restaurant, 851 Main
Street, Downtown Redwood City (FREE ADMISSION) featuring:

           Stan Erhart
Stan has been performing in and around the San Francisco Bay Area for many years, with his
own band, and with others. Previous to California, he made a living teaching and performing
guitar & woodwinds in Chicago, Michigan, and Kansas City. Standards are high, and you’ll
always hear fine musicians with the band. He and bassist Michael Warren (Merl Saunders, Leo
Nocentelli) celebrate 11 years and hundreds of gigs together.
The Bay Area has some of the best musicians in the world and great situations abound. Which
hints that Stan has played with many of the top players in the area... at jam sessions and special
events, lots of fun always... even more fun to gig with them. If you’re having trouble sleeping, you
can peruse his historical calendar at erhart.net.

           DeBraun Thomas
DeBraun Thomas got into music at a young age. His father, being a musician himself, had a
strong influence on him. DeBraun picked up the guitar at the age of 14 and has been playing
since. DeBraun plays a few different styles and blends them to create his own sound. He uses
the influence of Rock, Funk, Blues, and Reggae to create his unique sound. He plays with much
passion and emotion which comes through his music. His biggest influences include Eddie
Hazel, Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, Yavuz Çetin, Stevie Ray Vaughan and many others. He is
currently attending school at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky and where he
continues to write and record music.

           South City Blues Band
The South City Blues Band is dedicated to the groove, providing you with a unique blend of
swinging Jump Blues (our specialty), Jazz/Funk Blues, and “old-school” R&B. Whatever you want
to call it, this music will get you up and moving. We play a variety of styles to keep it interesting,
but our rhythm section keeps it in the pocket, and we never stray far from the source of our
           musical inspiration — the blues!

Oakland, CA. Playfully crossing genres from roots and blues to R&B and soul, The California
Honeydrops’ sound is tied together by their unique instrumentation, soulful vocal harmonies,
and a funky, good-times New Orleans style. The Honeydrops’ more unusual instruments include
a home-made gutbucket bass, jug, and washboard. Their greasy down-home rhythms are
punctuated by joyous blasts of trumpet, rollicking piano riffs, and passionate bluesy vocals. The
only band of its kind, The California Honeydrops’ live shows have quickly gained a reputation as
the best party in the Bay Area.

Raised in Houston, Texas before his family moved to the South Bay, Sid performed at the very
first San Francisco Blues Festival in 1973 and subsequently appeared at four other SF Blues
Festivals. During his early years on the scene, Sid was mentored by Alberto Gianquinto, the
brilliant San Francisco blues pianist who helped co-found the original James Cotton Blues Band.

In 1976, Sid participated in the now legendary recording of the album, Blue Bay, an anthology
featuring the elite of Bay Area blues artists, and included the likes of Luther Tucker, Charlie
Musselwhite, Sonny Rhodes, and other local notables such as Gary Smith and Ron Thompson.
Currently Sid remains active in the Bay Area blues scene with his own band, the ROADHOUSE
ROCKERS, and can be seen at any number of local night spots. He also works with a number of
fellow blues musicians such as Jon Lawton, Chris “Kid” Andersen, Steve Freund, Terry Hanck,
and Gary Smith, to name a few, as well as solo appearances mainly in the South Bay.

Mighty Mike Schermer with Special Guest Earl Thomas
Mighty Mike Schermer has been a fixture on the Bay Area Blues scene for over 20 years. In that
span of time he has carved out a solid solo career, with two critically acclaimed CDs, an award
winning single and thousands of performances at festivals and nightclubs the world over. He
has also become the “go to guy” sideman for such heavyweights as Elvin Bishop, Bonnie Raitt,
Charlie Musselwhite, Maria Muldaur, Howard Tate, Angela Strehli, Sista Monica, Shana Morrison
and many, many more. Oh yes…we may be judged by the company we keep, but when the
spotlight shines a solo artist also must be able to bring the goods all on his own.

“Mighty Mike Schermer is probably the best blues guitarist, singer and songwriter you’ve
never heard of…and probably not for long!”

This band of local musicians has built up a loyal fan base by playing in local city concert
series and well known festivals. The Madison Blues Band is proud to have participated in many

time we perform. Their mission is to help preserve and promote this uniquely American music
and to present it to our community with as much energy and excitement as possible!
The Madison Blues Band features Blues songs sung by many of the great female vocalists of
our time. Bonnie Raitt, Marcia Ball, Lou Ann Barton and Angela Strehli to name a few. Credible
Blues comes from the heart and soul and can not be fabricated. It’s more than a feeling, it is
a state of mind and an attitude. Kerry Daly, vocalist, came to the Madison Blues Band on a
reputation of being genuine and sincere and able to present her gift in a honest and real manner.
As the voice and face of the band, she too matches the genuine and humorous tone. Her raw
and earthy Blues tones are equally balanced by her soft and sweet ballads.
