Car Seats and Their Risks
It's a good thing to have car seats for babies. A lot of people seem to think that baby car seats
are not necessary and are just an additional expense. After all, aren't seatbelts enough? The
answer is a resounding no, definitely.
A car seat is necessary; make no bones about it. It's a very crucial safety feature that you
should have installed on your car, as it might be too dangerous otherwise. What are car seats
for, exactly?
Children and infants are too small for the regular adult seatbelts that come with your car. The
position can even cost choking. Instead, a baby car seat is specifically designed with its own
seatbelt, perfect for your child's tiny frame. This way, your child is safe and protected from
the dangers of sudden stops or even an actual car accident.
Sturdy car seats also allow you to provide your child with an extra cushion. This way, they
are protected from the impact should a collision occur. Generally speaking, baby car seats
offer additional protection to your child, and are a definite necessity.
One thing to remember, however, is that nothing is perfect, of course. There's always
something to take into consideration, as even baby car seats have features that you need to be
aware of.
Some things to remember:
- A very young infant should not be allowed to stay too long in the car seat. It's better to
have your infant lying down properly than seated up while sleeping, as his or her body is still
developing. Sitting upright for prolonged periods can affect your child's spine development.
- Long drives are not advisable, especially if the child is very young. Stop occasionally so
the child can have a bit of fresh air and stretch a little.
- Do not put the car seat in the front seat. The baby car seat should always be in the
backseat.
- Make sure that you can always check on your baby in the rear view mirror. This is one
way by which you can ensure that your child is safe and in good condition even while you're
driving.
- Make sure that the car seat's seatbelt isn't too snug. There should be enough room for
your child to breathe properly, but it should be snug enough to keep them safe and sound.
It might be a better option to invest in a travel system. These travel systems can work as
pushchairs, carrycots, and car seats. While the travel system is in pushchair mode, it can be
used while you're running errands with your child. In fact, pushchairs are best in allowing
your child to enjoy a few hours out in the open.
Pushchairs are a second option for short errands, but always, car seats will be the only choice
for driving in cars. A travel system allows you to have the best of both worlds, keeping your
child safe and happy. This is one thing you can't compromise on, and should always be at the
top of your agenda. As always, pushchairs and car seats are just tools. Remember that it's still
your efforts that will ensure your child's safety.
