Th 08 GLAMIS CASTLE; INVERNESS; CULLODEN HOUSE
A late morning drive to Glamis Castle, Seat of the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and
childhood home of the late HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. The Bowes Lyon family
have lived at Glamis since 1372, when Sir John Lyon was granted the Thaneage of Glamis by
King Robert II. Since then the castle has been visited and lived in by many members of the
Scottish and British Royal Families and has stunning gardens. Tour and entrance included.
After our visit to Glamis we drive on to Inverness and Culloden house where we’ll enjoy a
Welcome to the Highlands dinner.
Culloden House In a class by itself... where Highland hospitality has been elevated to the highest art form,
without being "stuffy" nor too "proper" or reserved. After all you deserve, without compromise, the very best.
One of the most beautiful houses in Scotland lies close to the Culloden Battlefield. Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed here
before being defeated in the bloodiest battle in history between the Scots and the English. Culloden House is built on a
grand scale with large rooms, plaster ceilings, chandeliers and generous-sized bathrooms. The house is situated at the
very center of the Highlands, and many interesting places are close by. This is a perfect base from which to explore this
beautiful area. Culloden is listed in the Condé Nast Gold List with very high marks for the service and food. Travel +
Leisure magazine voted the hotel in their “500 Best Hotels in the World” for 2007, with the hotel coming in the top five in
the UK and second in Scotland. http://www.cullodenhouse.co.uk/

Today we drive a short distance to visit
Ballindalloch, one of Scotland's most
romantic castles, with wonderful
gardens. Set in the magnificent
surroundings of the Spey valley,
Ballindalloch has been the home of the
Macpherson-Grant family since 1546.
The family have adapted their castle
with the twists and turns of fortune and
history into the elegant and comfortable
seat at the heart of their working estate
that we see today We’ll be introduced
to the castle, given a tour then enjoy morning coffee & shortbread in the Dining Room.
The rest of the afternoon is free to explore Inveress, Culloden Battlefield, or Loch Ness

Su 11 Drive to Isle of Eriska
Situated on a private island in one of the most
beautiful spots on the west coast of Scotland, The
five star Isle of Eriska luxury Hotel, Spa and Island
offers an unparalleled feeling of peace and
tranquility.
The island is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary
and provides an area of great beauty in which to
walk, paint or just sit and look at the view.
For those who want action, there is an indoor
swimming pool and spa and fishing on the loch.
The food is superb and fish is brought in daily. The hotel has its own smokehouse and the
scallops found just off the Isle of Eriska are flown out to the top restaurants all over the world.
We’ll enjoy a lovely three course Dinner at the Hotel
The island’s location, just north of Oban, means that the ferries to the Western Isles can be
reached easily. From here one can journey by boat to Skye, Mull and the ancient, windswept
monastic settlement of Iona settled by St. Columba in 563 AD and now a place of pilgrimage.

Mo 12 ISLE OF ERISKA
Exploring Paradise
Living on your own private island is a dream to many however a stay at the Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa and Island
allows you to turn this fantasy into reality. Enjoy the unique levels of personal service, the award winning
cuisine and the fantastic facilities of your own private retreat during your stay!
Your Options whilst at The Isle of Eriska
SPA: The Stables, beside the old formal garden, house extensive facilities including a 50
foot Swimming Pool, Sauna, Steam Room, Spa treatment rooms, gym and a lounge and
balcony with views over the golf course.
INVERARAY CASTLE: The headquarters of the Clan Campbell since the 15th century and the seat of the dukes of
Argyll. There is a fine collection of tapestries, pictures and 18th-century furniture.
ISLE OF MULL: The island is definitely worth a visit for its spectacular scenery. A visit to the ISLE OF IONA is a must
while on Mull. This remote, windswept island is one of the most ancient and venerated places in Christian history. St.
Columba came here in the 6th century to found his monastery and abbey church. Nothing of Columba's church remains
today but crosses and stones from the period do. The 12th-century St. Oran's Chapel still stands as does the 13th-century
abbey, which stands on the original site of Columba's church.
FORT WILLIAM: This busy little town is situated at the southern end of Loch Ness, known for its monster, and at the foot
of Ben Nevis, which is the highest mountain in Scotland. From here there is a very pretty drive out to Mallaig known as
"The Road to the Isles." This road can be quite crowded in the summer months as it links up with the ferry to Skye. The
longer road to Skye links up with a toll bridge.
This evening we will enjoy a lovely three course farewell dinner at the Hotel.
Tue 13: TRAQUAIR ARMS, TRAQUAIR HOUSE & MELVILLE CASTLE
As we say a fond farewell to our Royal Scotsman train in
Edinburgh, our All Manner of Manors coach will collect us for a
drive south to The Border Counties for lunch at The Traquair
Arms with their great sirloin steak sandwiches and fresh Traquair
Bear Ale.
After lunch we travel a short distance to Traquair House,
welcomed and guided by the Lady of the oldest continually
inhabited manor house in Scotland, followed by a tasting of
Traquair House Ales

Tue 13: TRAQUAIR ARMS, TRAQUAIR HOUSE & MELVILLE CASTLE
27 Scottish Kings and Queens have
visited Traquair. Now you’ll follow in
their footsteps. Enjoy a day reliving
history. See the bed belonging to
Mary Queen of Scots, the super
collection of Jacobite glass, the
extraordinary eighteenth century
Library and the secret stairs used by
priests in time of terror.
Then, we’ll visit the 200 year old brewery and sample the delicious strong ales, browse through the
gift shop and perhaps take a walk in the magical grounds and ancient woodlands.
The 18th century brewery originally
produced a beer for the house and estate
workers. It was disused some time after
1800 but the vessels and equipment
remained untouched until it was
rediscovered in 1965 when Peter Maxwell
Stuart created the new brewery. Today his
daughter Catherine Maxwell Stuart manages
the brewery
Tue 28: MELVILLE CASTLE
After our visit to Traquair
House, we’ll celebrate our last
night in Scotland with a stay
at Melville castle. Toasting
the past week’s adventures,
pleasures and treasures we’ll
enjoy a farewell light
brasserie dinner, recounting
our great times and to get a good nights’ rest before our flights home.
Wed 14: DEPARTURE
After a leisurely breakfast, the hotel will be happy to arrange your airport transfer for your flight home
Alternately we would be happy to arrange your ongoing travel in the UK or Europe with a Custom
Itinerary.
