HANG SENG DONATES PROCEEDS FROM USED FURNITURE SALES TO SUPPORT GREEN CHINESE NEW YEAR CAMPAIGN
Hang Seng Bank has donated HK$200,000 to Friends of the Earth (HK) to support its ‘A Green New Year for a Sustainable Future’ campaign, which aims to raise public awareness about how to celebrate Chinese New Year in an environmentally responsible manner. The donation represents the proceeds from the sale of old furniture following the Bank’s head office renovation. The campaign will be launched by FOE (HK) later this month and will focus on providing environmental tips with a ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ theme, such as choosing gifts with simple packaging, reducing waste and maximising opportunities to recycle household items during the festival. Mrs Dorothy Sit, Hang Seng’s Chief Operating Officer and Green Champion, said: “This donation is part of the Bank’s continuing efforts to promote positive environmental messages and encourage recycling efforts. On behalf of Hang Seng, I wish everyone a happy and green Chinese New Year.” As an ‘Earth Partner’ of FOE (HK), Hang Seng has sponsored other FOE (HK) programmes and campaigns, including ‘Eco-Explorer’ – an online educational programme for students, and ‘Green Christmas’.
