Concession Stand Worker Guidelines
Every attempt has been made to address common occurrences at concession events in this outline. If you have any
questions regarding concession stand work rules, please contact your Scheduler.
• Heath Department Training (every three years) is REQUIRED by the Regions Park Stadium (aka The
Met) to work events at their facilities.
• TIPS Training (every year) is REQUIRED by Event Concessions to work at the Verizon Music Center
(aka Oak Mountain Amphitheatre) or any other events they coordinate and for adults to work at the
Hoover Met Stadium.
In order to establish an excellent standard of operation in any concession event, the following rules must be followed:
1. Once Schedulers are in place for the band year (June-May), they will introduce themselves to their
group via a courtesy telephone call. Even if you do not speak directly with your Scheduler during
the initial courtesy telephone call, you must indicate your interest in working at any concession
events (present or future). Optional methods of communication with your scheduler can be through
e-mail, cell phone or work number. IT WILL BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CONTACT YOUR
SCHEDULER IF YOU WISH TO WORK AT ANY CONCESSION EVENTS EITHER ON OR OFF-
CAMPUS.
2. The Head Scheduler, in consultation with the concessionaire, will determine how many workers are
needed for an event. The Head Scheduler will work with the other Schedulers to insure that the
event is adequately staffed. You will be informed by your Scheduler or the Head Scheduler of the
time to report for work. Positions at each event may be scheduled in advance. Please check when
you report in to see where you will be working. Please do not report or sign in earlier than your
scheduled time. If you are unable to work the event you signed up for, please contact your
Scheduler or the Head Scheduler as soon as possible so that a replacement can be arranged.
Repeat “no-shows” may not be scheduled for future events.
3. Attire should be suitable for the weather as long as you are keeping in line with the dress code
requirements of the concessionaire as follows:
a. Hoover Met Stadium: Khaki pants or shorts; white, collared shirt; Barons baseball cap; and
Barons apron (supplied by the concessionaire). A number of baseball caps are supplied by
the concessionaire to be used by workers; however, you may purchase your own Barons’ cap
for a nominal charge.
b. Verizon Music Center: Pants or shorts; comfortable shirt; green apron supplied by the
concessionaire. The apron must be worn at all times you are working a concession stand or a
portable.
c. Pelham High Football Concession Stand: Pants or shorts; comfortable shirt (Boosters shirt
preferred); baseball cap or visor (Boosters style preferred).
4. Since concession stand work is a service industry, your work time is for serving the general public
in attendance at the event. Any meals workers eat shall be taken out of the view of the customer,
and out of the way of other workers. Please keep cell phone usage to a minimum while working,
and do not interrupt a customer to answer a cell phone. No consumption of alcohol or smoking is
allowed by a worker at any concession event while working. Courtesy to the public and
professional behavior is a must as we are representing the Pelham High School Band at all
events.
5. Please make note of your stand leader when working any concession event. When there is a
question, or a situation arises that requires input from someone else, seek out your stand leader
first. They are aware of the policies of the concessionaire and are best able to offer assistance.
6. Please note that in the case of low attendance at a concession event, either on or off-campus, the
stand leader may ask for volunteers to leave before the end of the event. This is done so that
everyone has an opportunity to work and so that we can continue to offer a reasonable, hourly
incentive for concession stand workers. If there are 10 people working an event and only 4 are
needed based on the attendance, consider volunteering to leave earlier than expected, especially if
you are scheduled for other events. If no one volunteers, the stand leader will ask individuals to
sign out. If the event is overscheduled, you may be contacted before your shift to let you know you
will not be needed.
7. Students are not allowed to work at concession events unless so noted by the concessionaire. At
this time, only the Hoover Met Stadium allows students 14 and older to work in a limited capacity.
Currently, student are credited $5.00 per hour for each hour worked. ABSOLUTELY NO
STUDENT IS TO TAKE ORDERS FOR OR TO SERVE OR HANDLE ANY ALCOHOLIC
BEVERAGE. This restriction includes placing it in a tray or handing it to a customer.
8. Siblings of band students, friends’ children, cousins, etc. may not accompany the working parent,
legal guardian or the band student to any concession event.
9. Refills are not allowed the general public at any concession event. The following rules are
currently in place regarding Pelham Band workers, concessionaire staff, and law enforcement
personnel at our current venues:
a. Hoover Met Stadium: Some menu items are free to workers, while others are sold at half
price. You may be required to sign your name and list what you are taking since many of the
packaging items are counted as inventory and determine total sales. Fountain drinks may be
served in a complimentary cup (aka courtesy cup) provided by the Hoover Met Stadium in the
concession stand, a personal container brought from home, or a cup may be purchased at
regular price from the stand. Please consult your stand leader if you have any questions while
working an event.
b. Verizon Wireless Music Center: You may purchase any food item sold in the concession
stand for your personal consumption. No FREE food is allowed for consumption by Pelham
Band workers. You are allowed to consume fountain soft drinks, but you must provide your
own container. Most of the packaging is an inventory item and determines gross sales, which
in turn determines our commissions. Please consult your stand leader if you have any
questions while working an event.
c. Pelham High School Football Concession Stand: You may purchase any food item sold in the
concession stand for your personal consumption if you are working. This also applies to Band
parents working outside the concession stand in the roll of chaperone, equipment crew, etc.
Our hourly rates are determined solely by our sales; therefore, consuming food without
payment is only hurting the fundraising opportunity for all. Please provide your own container
for fountain drinks. Please consult the stand leader if you have any questions while working
an event.
d. All Venues: Please do not accept or give out any inventory without the stand leader’s
approval; most inventories must be logged in or out to reconcile sales. If you have any
questions about food policies, stand procedures, dress codes, or anything not covered above,
please do not hesitate to ask your stand leader.
There are events not listed above that are more occasional in nature; Talladega, Crawfish Boil, etc.
The same general policies currently in place for safe food handling, inventory control and dress
code apply. If there are any changes for a particular venue, you will be advised of them when you
are scheduled to work.
