What is Email Account Forwarding
• Email Account Forwarding is a way to
consolidate emails from different accounts
• For Instance, you all have to have 2 email
accounts for the University of Hawaii
– Main UH account where you login using your
myUhPortal username and password
– HCC account where you login using your HCC
username and password
• Email forwarding allows you to send all email
received on one of those accounts to the other
so you only ever have to check 1 account
(instead of 2)
Forwarding You HCC Mail
• To forward all of your new, incoming email
from your hcc.hawaii.edu account to a
different email account (address)
– Start and log-in to your ssh client shell
• Start Bar All Programs SSH Secure Shell
Secure Shell Client
• Click “Quick Connect”
– Host Name: “ssh.hcc.hawaii.edu”
– User Name: “your hcc.hawaii.edu username”
– Port Number: 22 is correct so leave alone
– Authentication Method: “password”
Forwarding Your HCC Email (cont.)
• Once you click “Connect” you will have to enter your
hcc.hawaii.edu password
• At the prompt ([pulua2m]:), type in the following:
– Echo xxx@yyy.zzz >.forward
– Where xxx@yyy.zzz is the email address that you would like all
of your email forwarded to
• For example, I forwarded all of my “hcc email” to my
paid@hawaii.edu account
• What you just did:
– Wrote your email address, xxx@yyy.zzz, to a file named
“.forward” that resides in you Unix home directory
– All emails to your hcc account will now be forwarded to your
xxx@yyy.zzz account and not stored on the hcc system.
Forwarding your hawaii.edu email
1. Go to http://mail.hawaii.edu
2. Log in using your UH username and password.
3. Click the Options button.
4. On the left, click the Settings link.
5. Now on the right, you will see a section at the
bottom titled Mail Forwarding. In the text box,
type in theemail address that you would like all
your mail to be forwarded to. You may enter
more than one email address but be sure that
you type only one address per line.
6. Click the Save Changes button.
