challenges to the World Language teacher. In a number of varied, effective classroom strategies,

With new Florida State Standards and a new theme-based format for the AP French language exam,
it’s becoming more imporant than ever to design curriculum with vertical planning in mind. Learn
how, with Understanding by Design units, using Essential Questions and Enduring Understanding,
core grammar concepts, multiple sources of information, and daily lesson plans and assessments
that require higher order thinking.
New Generation Assessment for NGSSS
This workshop provides lessons and types of assessment for evaluating students using the New
Generation Sunshine State Standards. Both low and high-tech options are given.
National French Exam
Informational session presents the National French Exam. In particular, the changes made to the
2012 exam will be delineated and discussed, as well as the benefits to participating.
Canadian Film
Do you like to use film clips or entire movies in class? Need some ideas on how to bring French-
Canadian culture (and accent) into your classroom? Come hear about how to use these films from
Quebec: Rocket, Congorama,Seducing Dr. Lewis, and The Mysterious Miss C. Also, learn how to
use them even if you don’t have time in your curriculum to show the entire film. Other French-
Canadian audio-visual resources will be discussed as well.

Florida Humanities Council Lessons for Spanish and French
Get lesson plans specific to Florida’s early history using primary resource texts in the original target
languages. Connect the state’s French and Spanish 15th century heritage to language learning and
cultural understanding. Some lessons are directed to teachers, while others provide links for
students to access and be interactive with the original resources found on the web.

Dreaming of a New Cultural Frontier in your Language Classroom
This presentation discusses the integration of the cultural component into the French curriculum
from an interdisciplinary perspective that includes the use of technology. Learn about the objectives
of a culture-based French conversation course, and review a project that engages students in the
designing, crafting and editing of a recipe book selected from French-speaking regions of the world.
Achieving Fluency With Your Students Using Only the Target Language
Through video footage and hands-on demonstrations, learn how the Accelerative Integrated Method
(AIM) rapidly accelerates second language acquisition using only the target language. The AIM is a
revolutionary and highly successful literacy-based approach which pairs gestures and high-
frequency vocabulary to achieve fluency in the second language.
Hommage à Jean Ferrat
Jean Ferrat’s songs, powerful instruments to condemn the War in Europe and the Nazi Occupation
of France, addressed social issues and celebrated his French homeland. He even adapted several
poems authored by Louis Aragon. Ferrat’s work provides teachers with an exciting tool to illustrate
the history of France, the beauty of France’s regions, and even to teach vocabulary and grammar
concepts with a literary analysis of his songs.
