PRESS RELEASE

Tolland Soccer Club Hosts Thanksgiving Tournament to Benefit

Tri-Town Pantry

Tolland, November 11, 2011: The Tolland Soccer Club announced that it is partnering

with Star Hill Family Athletic Center to host the First Annual Black Friday Soccer

Tournament on Friday, November 25th at Star Hill Family Athletic Center in Tolland, CT.

The Tolland Soccer Club and Star Hill will be donating a portion of the proceeds and

food donations to the Hockanum Valley Community Council’s Tri-Town Food Pantry. All

players and families are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item as part of the

entrance fee that will be donated to the Tri-Town Pantry to stock the shelves for the

holiday season.

“There are many families that are facing difficult times this year. With the economy and

recent storms, many of our friends and neighbors are going to be having a tough time

providing for their families during the upcoming holidays. The Tolland Soccer Club

wants to do everything we can to help those less fortunate and those that may need

help during the holidays,” said Tom Dennis, President of the Tolland Soccer Club.

The Tournament is open to travel soccer teams to give those teams a competitive

tournament to challenge their skills and have fun. Each team will play three 50 minute

games with a championship game in each division and awards will be given to the

division champions.

The Tournament is open to teams with players aged U9 through U14. The cost is $300

per team.

Star Hill will be opening their indoor swimming pool for the players to enjoy and continue

having fun after their games.

Following the youth tournament, there will also be a coed tournament for adults over 21

starting at 8 pm. Star Hill and the Tolland Soccer Club want to encourage adults and

player parents to join in the fun and they remind everyone that soccer is a lot of fun

and great exercise at any age. There will be special door prizes and activities for the

adults in the Star Hill Café following the games.

The adult teams will play three 25 minute games and the fee is only $150, with a

requested donation to the food pantry.

“We are proud to partner with Star Hill Family Athletic Center on this Tournament,” said

Dennis. “Star Hill is a key partner in our community. As they showed during the recent

storm, Star Hill did an incredible job taking care of people in our community. They

provided free showers and other resources when people needed it most. The owners

really stepped up.”

The Tolland Soccer Club was founded in 1972 and has more than 700 children in town

participating in soccer at all levels. The Club supports a number of community

programs and organizations. They have purchased AED’s for the fire department, paid

for the renovation of the Cross Farms soccer fields, purchased uniforms for the middle

and high school soccer teams and much more.

To register a team for the tournament, visit the Star Hill web site at

www.starhillsports.com. More information can also be found at the Tolland Soccer Club

site at www.TollandSoccer.com. The deadline for registration is Friday, November 18.
