RE-REPEAT cont.
everything that happens within the Region – he’s the CEO. The Assistant RE helps the RE and is training to
become the RE. The Board of Directors are responsible for guiding the Region. Decisions are made for money
matters, program (Solo, Race, Rally, Activities, etc.) process, etc. The Program Chairs are the people who on a
day-to-day basis run the individual operations. They’re the people who really make things happen!
The time commitment? Again, it depends on the job position, but it’s actually pretty minimal; at least for some
people ;-). The RE can have almost daily duty of some sort. Program Chairs spend quite a bit of time setting
things up for our enjoyment. BoD members have a monthly meeting and serve on various committees. You can
basically decide on just how much time you want to put into it.
The Pay? At every event, you get to see the grins of everybody coming off the course, track, etc. and know that
you made it happen. I can personally say that helping run this Region has been one of the most rewarding things I
have ever done. Being an all-volunteer organization, we depend on the generosity of every person to make
everything happen. That pretty much boils down to – if someone doesn’t volunteer to do something, none of us get
to play.
If you’re even remotely interested in making things happen for the Region, please, please, please contact me, a
current Board member or Program Chair to get more info on exactly what the job consists of. The deadline for
being added to the ballot is right before the November Membership Meeting is called to order, so you’ll need to
decide fairly quickly. I probably can’t say it enough – if somebody doesn’t step up and say, “I’ll help,” none of us
will be able to be able to feed our adrenaline addiction .
Are we havin’ fun yet?
2006 OFFICER NOMINATIONS
By Dave Geis
So you read my RE article about Club Officer nominations, right? Well, as the appointed Chairperson of the
Nominating Committee (how did that happen?), I also get the privilege of letting you know beforehand who your
choices will be to vote for when you get your ballot.
I also get to let you know that you can still be on the ballot for 2006 Officers. The only thing you need to do is make
out a petition, with 5 Wichita Region members signing, stating that you would like to be on the ballot and present it
to me at the November Membership meeting. What could be easier?
And please, thank all of these people for volunteering to run for offices. Without them, we wouldn’t have a Club.

I did hear about a fire at the Runoffs, and a podium finish.

05 POKER RALLY
and other thoughts
by Bruce (lost in Kansas) Bettinger
Both Keith and Robert asked for an article on the 05 Trivia Poker Rally. Well it’s a
hard rally to write a report on because there is no real paper work to bring home
and use as notes to write from. Also I’ve slept since then so I will not rely on my
memory to credit any one with any thing. I would like to thank Charlene who
prechecked the rally and then worked the checkpoints. We had ten teams enter
and did not lose any of them (at least for long). I put in one trick that all most !
worked. As the teams finished the rally having found four controls they had to turn
away from the meeting/party to find the fifth control. Seems Charlene told some
" # $
people that there was one more control so we had to tell every one. Darn, it might
have been interesting to see the hands that could be made from just four cards. I
also want to thank the Board for letting me but this event on at no charge even
though we still have to pay for both insurance and sanction.
One of the other thoughts I had is…. We could use some additional rally
masters. If you think this might be something you would like to try, do it. You
don’t have jump in with a full-fledged time-speed-distance event (although you
could). There are several types of gimmick rallies you could try. The poker rally is
just one. There are hare and hound, riddle, treasure hunts, and I’m sure others. !
Put a thought together (or the whole thing) and then contact Keith or me and we
will help you with the details. Some of the most fun events I have run were the off "##$ !
the wall brainchildren of some one other than a “rally person”.
Next up is the Witches’ Ryde. I have seen the course and it will entertain
new people and still be interesting to the experienced ralliest. It is the last event in
the MIDIV Regional Road Rally Series. Because it’s ours and because I am the
person responsible for restarting the Series, I want to see a good turn out. I know %
we will get some teams from out of town and I want to see us trounce them. Think
it over and either enter or work or at least come out to the party at the end (which !
for $2.00) is open to every one.
Also I have to plug the MIDIV convention. Charlene has worked very hard & "'' (")* ()"
to make it a convention for every one. We are tired of hearing “oh that’s for the
racers”. It is the MIDIV convention and we have rally people, and solo people, #*+'%
along with racer people. There are some really neat classes. The bad part will be
trying to get to all the ones you want to go to as we only have one day to cram to , -
days into. Hope to see you there.

Solo Event #7 - Strother Field - 9-4-05
s
Bruce Sargent and I have been co-chairs for a couple of Solo' a year, for the past several years. We would
alternate course layout and organizational duties. When we did the June twelfth rain autocross at Boeing, I did
the course layout, Bruce did the work. At Strother Field, Bruce was going to design the course. But, Charlotte
s
had other plans for Bruce. She had heart surgery earlier in the week, and that changed Bruce' priorities. I
ll
talked briefly to Charlotte briefly on Friday, and she felt she was recovering well. We' wish her a speedy and
successful convalescence.
s
I reacted to losing Bruce' assistance, by sending out panic e-mail and phone calls for short notice help. I even
had to make a five aye em call to Tom Dupler to provide emergency tail light duty for the trailer tow from Derby
t
to Strother Field. I shouldn'have worried. As always happens at our club events, a dedicated platoon of
miracle workers was on hand, lending a heave to, and the first heat started on time.
The entry was light, about forty six entrants, the course was set up so efficiently, that we soon extended first heat
to seven runs. We typically allow an extra run for the first heat, and call it course sweeping duty. That allowed
six runs for second, third, and fourth heats. With an average of ten plus cars per heat, and lots of seat time, the
pace was brisk. We had a couple of twenty minute delays. One to repair the finish line timing lights, no names,
especially Matt Brown, need be mentioned. The other to allow a jet to leave the hangar. We were using an
airport apron. The Solo runs were finished by three pee em. The trailer was packed and headed for pizza by
three thirty.
t
For the life of me, I can'remember the names of all the miracle workers. Methinks special thanks for course
setup, and it was an excellent course, goes to Tom Dupler, Brian Meyer, Dave Green, Paul Sherman, and others
as well. Lou Geis, Roxanne Gird, Dan Deener, Greg Laws, Dave Gird, Richard Prestage, Dave Geis, David
t
Gulliams, Marcus Hidvegi, Tom Urbanek, Jim Harrison, and others whose names I don'recall, picked up chores
as necessary. Robert Foster, again, made an excellent photographic record of the fun.
Thanks to all! I am proud, and humbled, to be part of such a great group of people. - Bill Preheim
