General Meeting Luncheon
April 20, 2005

President Debbie Kemphues welcomed the group.
Denice Wells noted that she currently has 30 signed up for the bus trip to Chicago on
Saturday, May 7. We need to have at least 40 to cover the expenses of the bus. She
encouraged everyone to invite relatives, friends, neighbors, etc. Denice is also working
on a bus trip to the Mall of America during the 2nd or 3rd week in June.
Debbie noted that the Gooseberry Patch Cookbook sales have been extended to April 29.
Additional fliers are available on the front tables.
A letter to send to the Governor re: retirement is available to sign by Secretariat
members. The letter will be posted on the website.
Usha Dhar announced the following nominations for the open Secretariat Officer
positions:

Usha asked for nominations from the floor and there were no other nominations. Usha
will request bios from the candidates and they will be posted in the May Newsletter. The
new officers will be announced at the May 18 luncheon.
Sharon Conatser presented the Kathryn G. Hansen Scholarship Award to Alyssa Sprague.
Sharon thanked Kathryn Hansen for offering this scholarship award and noted that
Kathryn will be 93 on May 24. Alyssa Sprague thanked her parents, Jeff and Lori
Sprague along with her advisor, Angie Young for all of their support throughout her
education. She also thanked Kathryn Hansen for providing this award. Alyssa plans to
attend Southern Illinois University in the Fall.
Debbie Kemphues announced that the T4B Administrative Professionals Breakfast for
next week is sold out.
Rhonda Hunter’s name was drawn for the $75 HRD scholarship. She was unable to
attend the luncheon.
Anne Stites came forward to present the Office Professional of the Year Award. She
thanked the Committee members for their hard work: Sandi Yarnell, Susan Anderson and
Colleen Hammel. As introductions were made for each nominee, Ann read a part of each
nominator’s letter. Here is the list of the nominators and nominees for the 2005 Office

Anne announced the winner of the 2005 Office Professional of the Year to be Robert
Chappell. Wayne Banwart came forward and provided these remarks for Robert. He is a
great representation to the Academic Program Office in the College of ACES. Everybody
likes him. Robert has a way of calming the students down when they are getting stressed.
Robert could have been Sherlock Holmes – it is hard to escape him!
Robert thanked Wayne for nominating him for this award. He also gave a special thanks
to Kyia Miller who introduced him to the Secretariat through the Mentoring program. He
received a clock and a traveling plaque to take back to the office.
Debbie closed the program by saying she is very humbled by each and everyone
nominated for this award.
