Setting-up a Google Account

This procedure assumes that you already have a Google account. If not, you must go to
Google and create a “generic” account. You may use any email address, you do not need to
have or create a G-Mail account.
1) Open Google, mouse-over the page and click on the Sign In link at the to-right of the
page.
2) Enter your credentials, and then click on the Sign in button.

3) In the Address field, add the word analytics to the end of the address, to make the web
address: http://www.google.com/analytics and then touch Enter.

4) Click on the Sign Up Now link.
5) Enter your Password and then click on the Sign in button.

6) Click on the Add Website Profile link.
7) Select add a profile for a new domain, enter your web site URL, and then click on the
Finish button.

8) Select A single domain (default), select all of the code “snippet,” and then copy the
code.

Adding Analytics Scripts into Dreamweaver

Template
1) Open your site template (main.dwt) in Dreamweaver, and then switch to Code View.
2) Scroll down the code until you find the closing head tag , and then click to put
the cursor to the left of the tag.
3) Paste the Google Analytics code into the template.

4) For “best practices” surround the code with an HTML comment tag. Place , and then place //--> at the beginning of the line before the
closing script tag .
5) Save the template, and then click on the Update button to update template files site-
wide.

6) Synchronize the site to transfer the new pages with the Google Analytics Code.
7) Back on the Google Analytics page, you will receive a warning about the “Tracking not
installed.” This is normal and will take probably less than a day for Google to go out to
the site and find the tracking code.
8) This symbol indicates that Google has found the tracking code. It will take a day to
accumulate your first set of data.
