T

he Pottstown School District is partnering with the Pottstown Arts and Cultural Alliance, borough government, The Mercury, area churches, local

service clubs, Pottstown Downtown Improvement District Authority, Pottstown Library, Pottsgrove Manor, The Hill School, parent organizations,

and others to conduct our second annual Open Doors event on Saturday, September 10, 2011. The initial program will begin at 11:00 a.m. until

2:00 p.m. in the Pottstown High Street area. From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. activities will be conducted on the Pottstown High School campus. Last year’s event

drew over 5,000 visitors. The Open Doors event was designed to create a high profile, community engaging event that welcomes students to the new

school year; engages parents, caregivers, and community partners in the educational mission; and creates opportunities for community members and school

district staff to develop a greater trust and commitment to the educational mission.

Members of the military and first responders will be honored for the service to our community. We will also honor those lost on 9/11.

SNOW IS ON THE WAY!

The snow season is here! Following are guidelines for snow removal as outlined in Chapter

21 §212 of the Borough Code of Ordnance:

1. All snow, sleet or ice must be removed from sidewalks within 12 daylight hours after the

snow has stopped falling.

2. A path at least 3 feet wide must be shoveled for the full length of the sidewalk abutting the

entire property.

3. PLEASE DO NOT shovel snow or ice into the street! This creates an icy road hazard

and Borough crews must simply plow the snow back against parked cars.

We thank you in advance for following these important Borough Ordinance Rules!

A lively stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning 1994 Disney film, The Lion King is

the story of a young lion prince living in the flourishing African Pride Lands. Born into the royal

family, precocious cub Simba spends his days exploring the sprawling savanna grasslands

and idolizing his kingly father, Mufasa, while youthfully shirking the responsibility his position

in life requires. When an unthinkable tragedy, orchestrated by Simba’s wicked uncle, Scar,

takes his father’s life, Simba flees the Pride Lands, leaving his loss and the life he knew

behind. Eventually companioned by two hilarious and unlikely friends, Simba starts anew. But

when weight of responsibility and a desperate plea from the now ravaged Pride Lands come to

find the adult prince, Simba must take on a formidable enemy, and fulfill his destiny to be king.

A vibrant and exciting tale from the great creatives at Disney, The Lion King is a story of love

and redemption no family should miss. Trip includes transportation, dinner and theatre tickets.

It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the

party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor

flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a

place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and

scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality.

Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet

cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus

from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep

into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save

the strip–and themselves–before it’s too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and

more hold the answer. Not suitable for children. Trip includes transportation, dinner and theatre tickets.
