MISSION STATEMENT ON ADULT EDUCATION
Coláiste Chiaráin is committed to promoting education al
opportunities and qualifications for adults in the form of
further and continuing education and especially second
chance education for those who have not benefited from
their schooling.

INTRODUCTION
Evening Classes are offered in Coláiste Chiaráin on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, in collaboration with
Co. Kildare VEC, NUI Maynooth, Kildare Co.Co. and the
National College of Ireland. Coláiste Chiaráin is quality
assured to FETAC Level 6.
Information: The Director of Adult & Community Education
Assistant Director or School Representative will be available
at the school to answer your queries on the enrolment nights,
from 7.00-9.00pm and from the 11th January onwards.

Adult Guidance: Available on request.
Postal Enrolment will be accepted provided a cheque, bank
draft, or postal order accompanies the enrolment form for
the required fee made out to AD. ED. Coláiste Chiaráin to
reach the Adult Education Office on or before the 11th of
January. Should the course not commence you will be
contacted and your cheque returned or refunded.
Enrolment should be effected by the student in person on
Tue 11th Jan. & Thur 13th Jan. This is not a requirement if
enrolling by pos t or online. You must be over 16yr s to enrol
in the evening programme. Students are enrolled on a “first
come first served” basis. Enrolment by phone using credit
card is also possible, from the 10th of January with the
exception of enrolment nights (11th & 13th Jan. 7-9p.m.)

Early enrolment is advisable to ensure the class of interest
to you has sufficient numbers.
Note: Any special needs should be identified prior to
enrolment.
Late Enrolment may be effected up to and including the
first night of class if they are not already full. Ring in
advance.
Commencement: Tuesday 25th January unless otherwise
specified.
School Closures: Night classes follow the day school
closures. No classes 22nd, 23rd & 24th Feb. (Midterm)
Check with Director or Tutor for other possible closures.
Fees must be paid in full on enrolment , by Credit Card,
Cheque with banker’s card, Bank draft, or Postal order made
out to AD. ED. Coláiste Chiaráin. Receipts are issued. No
cash will be accepted on enrolment night. Only fully paid
students will be admitted to class. OAP’s & Unemploye d
may be granted fee reductions on some courses. This must
be applied for at the Adult Education Office before the
11th January.
Refunds: Fees are non-refundable unless a course does not
commence due to insufficient numbers or a tutor being
unavailable. In such cases participants will be notified and
fees refunded. The Director reserves the right to close a
course and refund fees.
Student Property: Responsibility cannot be accepted for
loss of, or damage to the property of students, their cars
motor cycles or bicycles on the school grounds.
Parking: Please park with consideration for others. Do not
block access and keep off the grass. Parking at the school is
limited.
Discipline: On enrolment, the student subscribes to the
regulations of the school and is bound by them. The school
reserves the right to suspend a student from classes and the
premises as seems appropriate.
Smoking is strictly prohibited by law in any part of the
school building and grounds.

10 Computers: Beginners

suitable for students who know how to use
mouse/keyboard and for those who are familiar with
‘Windows’. This is an introduction to Windows, Word-
processing/Access.

It is a follow on course from beginners and includes

The aim of this course is to provide food workers with
adequate training in the basic principles of food safet y.
The course consists 5 sessions with a 0ne hour writt en
exam at the end of the cours e.
The Sessions include areas such as Microbiological
Hazards, Personal Hygiene and Pest Control.
On completion of the course successful participants are
awarded a certificate from the Environmental Health
Officer's Association that is valid for Five Years .
