environment of a Public Defenders’ office, including courtroom appearances and legal

research. It is required that all Post-Bar Volunteers be certified by the California State

Bar. Post Bar Volunteers are either assigned to work in the Central Misdemeanor Unit,

or to work with a seasoned felony attorney. Those assigned to the CMU can expect to

handle casesfrom arraignment through jury trial under the supervision of a trial

attorney. Those assigned to work with a felony attorney can expect to participate in

litigation of serious felony cases, such as homicides and death penalty matters.

Competition for these positions is intense and we expect that the Post-Bar volunteer give

a commitment of 40 hours a week. These positions are not paid. Please submit all

paperwork by November 20th, 2009.

Felony Arraignment Court from 1:00-5:00pm. Interns will also be assigned to work

directly with attorneys. Some interns with more experience and are able to work between

24 and 40 hours a week will be assigned to work Central Misdemeanor Unit. These are

not paid positions.
