Item Lead
1. Minutes from the last Minutes were agreed upon by the group
meeting

2. Islington Training From the previous ETPN meeting, it was decided that it
Network (ITN) would be useful to have a representative from an
established training providers’ network speak at one of our
meetings.
Toyin Fabemi, from the Islington Training Network (ITN)
presented on the history and existing organisational
structure of the network.
ITN offers its members a range of services such as:
- capacity building
- project management
- the facilitation of links and new partnerships
between training providers
- Co-ordination of bids for projects designed to
create training opportunities for disadvantaged
groups.
Toyin Fagbemi
ITN is entirely project funded and delivers and manages a
projects for:
- London Development Agency (LDA)
- Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
- Jobcentre Plus
- London Councils
- Local regeneration partnerships.
Jenny Hill stated that her organisation, Echelon Learning
Ltd (who design and deliver training), have an online
project management tool that could be useful to ETPN.
Toyin could not see that working as the process needs to
be evidence based (for quality assurance purposes) which
online tools may not be able to facilitate.
Toyin finally offered some key tips for others setting up a
Training Network:
- Be transparent
- Start as you mean to go on
- Be strict with organisations…’we don’t deliver, we
don’t earn’ ethos
- Be inclusive
- Takes risks with some organisations
3. Job Pledge and Skills Imogen Hughes presented on the newly developed
& Employment Employment and Skills Team. Key projects include Jobs
Programmes Pledge, Skills pledge and Ealing at work support service.
Their aim is to go out into the community and engage with
disadvantaged residents/jobseekers and simplifying the
job seeking process as some are put off by the council’s Imogen Hughes
application process.
They want to create a system whereby job seekers who
have not had success with the job centre, can be pointed
in the right direction. It is also up to the team to ensure
that employers are getting what they need from job
seekers (need to ensure that they are properly trained).
Therefore they need to be in contact with groups (across
all sectors) who provide training and would like these
groups to commit to a jobs pledge.
They feel that if the SEG (Skills & Employment Group)
and ETPN can work together they can compliment each
other and minimise duplication of information. It could also
Enable the network to have support in developing bids
2
and to be funded.
Imogen will be producing bulletins for SEG members that
would be useful for ETPN.
Toyin also informed the groups that there is now centre
accreditation from TQS (Training Quality Standards)
however it is quite costly. Toyin is seeing if she can get a
group of members to apply for TQS to see if it will work
out cheaper.
Sylvia Francis suggested that as an ECN representative
on the S and E Board, she was willing to provide members
with information.
4. Feedback on survey of 27 Completed survey. ECVS sent out to 800 voluntary Coreen Allen
training providers in groups and nearly 100 private and public organisations.
Ealing However due to the low response it was suggested we
send out the surveys again.
It was suggested that a reason for the low response was
that some groups provide training in an ad hoc way e.g.
provide ECIL training when they have funding and may
not include themselves as trainers as they are not
providing training at that time. This may have to be taken
into consideration when resending them.
5. A.O.B Marcin Lewandowski from Action Acton suggested that a Coreen Allen
list of objectives for ETPN be circulated to make training
providers aware of the aims of the network.
A draft terms of reference for ETPN will be circulated and
uploaded onto the website
