On the Road
1. Have your child look at road signs and point out different shapes, including octagons for
stop signs and cylinders for the sign posts.
2. Have your child add up the numbers on license plates of passing vehicles.
3. Have your child count the number of black cars that go by in 3 minutes. Then challenge
your child to count backwards from that number.
4. Have your child solve this problem: There are 16 people who want to go to a park. But
there are only 4 cars. Up to 5 people can travel in a car. Help your child figure out how
many people should travel in each car. Your child may want to try this using objects,
such as coins to represent the people or by figuring it out in their head. Encourage your
child to come up with different solutions (for example, some cars may have 5 people and
some may have only 2 or 3).
