Landmarks in the local community, state, and nation have significance. Landmarks can

have:

 functional significance (Golden Gate Bridge)

 symbolic significance (Statue of Liberty)

 historical significance (Alamo)



Some natural features attract enough attention to be a landmark. Examples include the

Grand Canyon in Arizona or Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park.
