Executive Summary As of 2003, Cass County’s largest industry was Trade, representing 18.04 percent (1,073) of the county’s total covered employment of 5,947. Although the county’s total employment decreased by 1.13 percent since 2002, the average annual wage increased by 2.03 percent to $23,992 for all industries. Government employment consists mainly of nursing care facilities and public education. Cass County’s average weekly wage for all industries was $461 for 2003. This was an increase of 1.99 percent since 2002. The highest average weekly wage for a private sector was in Construction, averaging $658 with gross total wages of $13.8 million. Between 2002 and 2003, the Natural Resources & Mining sector had the largest percentage increase in average weekly wage of 13.17 percent ($64).
