Executive Summary State of Iowa
As of 2003, Butler County’s largest private industry was Trade, representing 21.38
percent (702) of the county’s total covered employment of 3,284. Although the
county’s total employment decreased by 0.79 percent since 2002, the average
annual wage increased by 3.24 percent to $22,595 for all industries.
Butler County’s average weekly wage for all industries was $435 for 2003. This
was an increase of 3.33 percent since 2002. The highest average weekly wage for a
private sector was in Transportation & Utilities, averaging $619 with gross total
wages of $3.4 million. Between 2002 and 2003, the Natural Resources & Mining
sector had the largest percentage increase in average weekly wage of 16.75 percent
($71).
