The Medaille Trust
Many thanks for the wonderful reception you gave to Sister Ann Teresa. She really felt welcomed within
our Parish communities and perhaps more importantly – heard!
I found this poem a few days ago by a lady called Lucy Berry:
Vicious tales of slaves and masters
Scattered through the bible show
After three long, wrong millennia
We are changing very slow.
Hagar: slave-girl who bore Ishmael
First-born of Abraham,
Left to starve and hear her baby
Crying, dying in the sand.
Or the nameless girl, whose savaged
Limbs were severed joint from joint,
Parcelled up and sent through Judah,
While her master proved his point.
Such dark depths of desolation,
Loneliness to make you wince,
Humans terrorizing humans
Happened every century since.
Nothing equals or surpasses
Israel under Egypt’s lash –
Except Africa abducted
Ravished, sold for ready cash.
Except slave-girls in our cities’
Cellars, attics, box-room jails
Groomed and kidnapped, raped, assaulted.
God! How like the bible tales.
Scattered concubines and daughters;
Lord! Our memory is short
If we truly have forgotten
How our liberty was bought.
Scattered concubines, our daughters,
Parcelled, shipped to Amsterdam,
Acton, Airdrie, Aberystwyth.
Are we Christ – or Abraham?

Pilgrimage to Assisi – 4th – 11th October 2008
Dear Fr Des
Further to your enquiry and discussions, we are at the moment unable to obtain definite confirmation of
flights from Bournemouth to Pisa operated by Ryanair, as they have not released prices or schedules for
October.
We have therefore based a costing on utilising flights from Gatwick to Pisa and as final details of your
itinerary have not been finalised we have included two full day coach excursions to Florence and Loreto
(including services of local guide in Loreto) and one other days coaching.
Based on a group of thirty passengers the price would be £699 per person on a half board basis in the Hotel
San Francesco. This price does not include insurance the premium would be £30.00 per person and the
supplement for single accommodation if available is £ 80.00.
This may change subject to your final itinerary and the final flight arrangements.
Mancunia Travel.
For your information:
Hotel San Francesco is situated in a privileged position within the historic centre, right
in front of the Basilica of Saint Francis. It's 600 metres away from the main square
(Piazza del Comune) and only 800 from the Basilica of Saint Clare. The hotel was
completely renewed in 1998 and has 44 sound proof bedrooms, all endowed with
bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV, radio, safe, direct dial telephone, minibar and
hair-dryer. Some of the rooms overlook the world famous Basilica and the vast
Umbrian plain, while others just the plain. The hotel has a lift and a panoramic terrace
with a splendid view of the Basilica, the Sacred Convent, the plain and the hillside.
If you have decided to join this pilgrimage please put your name on the list in the
Porch of the Church.
