Archiving in Google Mail
Google Mail has an archive feature. I would like to caution you that it appears to stay on the
mail server and take up space that you might rather use for current mail. For this reason, I
would encourage you to look at saving any ‘important’ mail off the mail server and into
your H: drive in a folder that you have set up.
The following steps will walk you through using the Google Mail Archive feature.
When you are in your Google Mail Inbox, you will notice there are two [Archive] buttons.
1
To archive a message you
would click on the selection
square at the beginning of the
message.
Next you click on the
[Archive] button and the mail
message will be moved to
Archive and removed from
your inbox.
You will also receive a
message at the top of the
inbox stating that the
conversation has been
successfully moved.
2
To retrieve or work with
Archived messages you will
find them under All Mail.
You can move them back to
the inbox or view them in
Archive.
You will notice different
button options in the archive
view. The two that you might
use the most are the [delete]
to remove an item from the
archive or the [move to inbox]
to put a piece of mail back into
your inbox from the archive.
