Audio Files, Audacity and Podcasting
Presented for BSN Conference 10/23/08
My name is Tom Nelson. You may call me Tom. My musical career began in 3rd grade when I
played the snare drum for a school talent show. Nine years later I graduated high school and
took my passion for drums and music to West Chester University in West Chester, PA. After
graduating with a B.S. in Music Education I began my profession as a public school music
teacher accumulating a Masters in Music from Mansfield University along the way. My music
teaching career is currently on hold while I work as the Classrooms for the Future Coach in my
school district, The Southern Tioga School District located in Tioga County Pennsylvania.
My musical journey has presented a lifetime’s worth of musical performing experiences with
groups of all styles performing in all types of venues. I have performed on many independent
recordings some of which have been played on television and radio. I own my own small
recording company with which I frequently record local concerts, voice-overs and local musician
projects.
My interest in technology started when I was young and owned an Atari video game console. In
high school I bought a four-track tape recorder to record and mix my rock band. In college I
owned a sixteen track sequencer/keyboard. Today I own a Pro-Tools LE digital recording
workstation. I have always had an interest in recorded sound and I am excited to see the new
technology that makes audio recording so easy and so cheap. I am also excited to see classroom
teachers utilizing this technology to enhance the level of instruction in their classrooms.
Enough about me. How about you? What would you like to learn today? I plan to move
quickly offering many ideas for many levels of understanding. Hold on to your seat, feel free to
shout out and slow me down, and get ready to learn.
