Audacity Tutorial
Prepare your script and have it ready to go. Practice what you are going to say before hand so your recording
sounds more authentic.
Open Audacity

These buttons are the most important for making a recording. The red circle is the record button. Square is the
stop button and of course you can use the pause if you need to.
Prepare to record.
Recording
Then press record and start speaking. As you talk, you will know it is working because a sound wave trace of
you voice is produced.

Pause rather than stop during long pauses
When you are done, click the square to stop.
Editing
Deleting: silence, loud noise extended loud noise or unnecessary audio.
High light area and press the Delete key on the keyboard and the sound wave will realign itself shortening the
length of the recording by the amount of time removed.

Adding more audio:
Position the cursor line at the point in the recording where you want to begin and click on record. A new audio
track recording will appear and you may have something like:

Saving
You will have to Export your file as mp3 in order to save your audio in order to play on typical digital audio
devices. Therefore the file has to be converted into an mp3 format, which is much more accessible, which can
be done by selecting the Export As mp3 option on the File Menu. Name your mp3 file as your full name and
don’t forget where you saved your audio.
Sharing
You will need to use Voki.com as a way of sharing your file with me. Click on “create”
“Give it a Voice” by clicking on the folder, then up load your file from your computer and click on “done”. If
you have time customize your Voki to look like you. Click on “Publish”. Name your Voki as your full name.
Click on “no thanks” on the “You just created a Voki Character ” pop-up. Click on “Send to a friend” and send
your Voki to my e-mail: sara.susanna@cms.k12.nc.us
