HOMEWORK

FIRST GRADE (ROOM 103)

OCTOBER 31 TO NOVEMBER 4, 2011

1) Sight word vocabulary list B was due in class with a parent signature on Monday this week. Before we move

onto the next sight word vocabulary list, I wanted to leave some time for reviewing list A & B. If your child

struggled with a lot of these words, this would be a good time to go back through them and make sure that

they have indeed retained the information. If you know that your child had difficulties learning these words,

please take this time to work with them on learning these very important sight words.

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:

1) Review words to remember (as needed to recognize the word and its meaning). They do not have to know

how to spell these words, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt if they/you have time.

2) We will be working continuously on stop and continue counting. For example, counting coins such as

DDDNNNP (this requires children to count 10, 20, 30, stop and switch to counting by 5”s, 35, 40, 45, stop

and switch to counting by 1’s, 46. If you know that your child is having difficulties counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and

10’s, please continue working with them. Additionally, you should be seeing your child become increasingly

more confident and comfortable with stop and continue counting—even if this requires the use of the 100’s

chart. If they are struggling with counting coins, they will struggle with stop and continue counting.
