Google Reader is a great (and simple) way to collect all of your blog and RSS subscriptions into
one spot. Here’s how.
1.) Sign into to Google using your username and password. If you don’t have one, sign up
for one…it’s FREE and it gives you access to tons of other great products from Google!
2.) Click on the “more” link at the top of your screen. Scroll down until you see Reader. If it
isn’t in your list, click the “even more” button.
3.) To add a blog subscription, click the “Add subscription button” in the top left hand
corner.
4.) Enter a search term or copy and paste the URL address into the blank. Click Add.
5.) Your subscriptions will be viewable in the column on the left at the bottom. If there is a
number beside the blog, and it is bolded, then that means a new post has been added to
that blog. The number is the number of new entries.
6.) As you read, you can mark your entries as read, or “star” them as a favorite. You can
also share your items, add notes, and add tags. Scroll to the bottom of the entry in
order to share, add notes, and mark as a favorite.
7.) You can also view the following items by clicking on the link in the left column.
Recommendations – Find out what blogs Google recommends. Then add them to
your subscriptions if you wish.
Your stuff – See your shared items, notes, and trends.
Starred items – These are your “favorites.”
8.) Another great feature of Google Reader is the settings. Click on the Settings link in the
top right corner beside your Google username.
9.) Once there, you will see tabs for several items. All of these are great for you to use if
you are a more advanced technology user. However, if you just want to be able to read
your blog subscriptions then the default settings will work perfectly fine. Items available
are:
