CONFUSIONAL TECHNIQUE
This technique works very well with the analytically-minded individual. At first they will attempt to make sense of
what you are saying, but they will soon give up the struggle!
Just close your eyelids and let your mind drift where it will.
You are aware of everything, and yet you are not aware. You are listening with your subconscious mind, while your
conscious mind is far away, and not listening. Your conscious mind is far away, and not listening. Your
subconscious mind is awake, and listening, and hearing everything while your conscious mind remains very relaxed
and peaceful. You can relax peacefully because your subconscious mind is taking charge, and when this happens,
you close your eyes and let your subconscious do all the listening. Your subconscious mind knows, and because
your subconscious mind knows, your conscious mind does not need to know and can stay asleep, and not mind
while your subconscious mind stays wide awake.
You have much potential in your subconscious mind which you don't have in your conscious mind. You can
remember everything that has happened with your subconscious mind, but you cannot remember everything with
your conscious mind. You can forget so easily, and with forgetting certain things you can remember other things.
Remembering what you need to remember, and forgetting what you can forget. It does not matter if you forget, you
need not remember what you can forget. Your subconscious mind remembers everything that you need to know and
you can let your subconscious mind listen and remember while your conscious mind sleeps and forgets. Keep your
eyes closed, and listen with your subconscious mind, and when you're listening very, very carefully, your conscious
mind will not mind what it forgets, because your subconscious mind will remember what it has forgotten.
As you continue to listen to me, with your subconscious mind, your conscious mind sleeps deeper and deeper, and
deeper, and deeper. Let your conscious mind stay deeply asleep, and let your subconscious mind listen to me.
(Repeat. Begin at paragraph two)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASSOCIATION METHOD
You can close your eyes now ... And begin breathing deeply and slowly ... Before you let go completely, and go into
a deep hypnotic state, just let yourself listen carefully to everything I say to you ... It's going to happen automatically
... So you don't need to think about that now ... And you will need no conscious control over what happens ... The
muscles in and around your eyes will relax all by themselves as you continue breathing ... Easily and freely ...
Without thinking about it, you will soon enter a deep, peaceful, relaxed sort of situation without any effort ... There
is nothing important for your conscious mind to do... absolutely nothing whatsoever to do except to relax... There is
nothing really important except the activities of your subconscious mind ... And that can be just as automatic as
dreaming ... And you know how easily you can forget your dreams when you awaken ... You are already drifting
into this relaxed state of hypnosis... Without noticing it, you have already altered your rate of breathing ... You are
breathing much more easily and freely... and yet you had not thought about your breathing except at the beginning...
And now you can really enjoy relaxing more and more, and your subconscious mind will listen to each word I say ...
And it keeps becoming less important for you to consciously listen to my voice ... Your subconscious mind can hear
even if I whisper ... You are continuing to drift into a more detached state as you examine privately in your own
mind ... Secrets, feelings, sensations, and behavior you didn't know you had ... At the same time, letting go
completely ... Your own mind is solving that problem ... At your own pace ... Just as rapidly as it feels you are ready
... You continue becoming more relaxed and comfortable as you sit there with your eyes closed ... As you experience
that deepening comfort you don't have to move, or talk, or let anything bother you ... Your own inner mind can
respond automatically to everything I tell you ... and you will be pleasantly surprised with your continuous progress
...
You are getting much closer to a deep hypnotic trance ... And you are beginning to realize that you don't care
whether or not you are going into a deep trance ... Being in this peaceful state enables you to experience the comfort
of the hypnotic trance ... Being hypnotized is always a very enjoyable, very pleasant, calm, peaceful, completely
relaxing experience ... It seems natural ... to include hypnosis in your future ... either self-hypnosis... or having
someone hypnotise you...You will always enjoy the sensations ... Of comfort ... Of calmness ... And all the other
sensations that come automatically from this wonderful experience ... You will find yourself feeling really happy
that you have now discovered hypnosis... discovered hypnosis and all the positive benefits that it can mean for you...
Because you are learning something about yourself ... You are developing your own techniques of therapy ...
Without knowing you are developing them ...You can have it as a surprise sooner or later ... a very pleasant surprise
... Imagine yourself in a place you like very much ... By a lake, or by the ocean ... Perhaps you are floating gently on
a sailboat on a peaceful lake ... On a warm, summer day ... You are continuing to relax even more now ... And you
continue becoming more comfortable ... This is your own world that you like very much ... You are going to find
that any time you want to spend a few minutes by yourself, relaxing, and feeling very comfortable and serene, you
can automatically go back to this feeling you're experiencing now ... You can put yourself into this world anytime
you like ... There are times when you will want this serene feeling ... And it is yours whenever you want it ...
Continue enjoying this pleasant experience as your subconscious mind is receiving everything I tell you ... And you
will be pleased the way you automatically respond to everything I say.

BODY CONDITIONING
First, be sure that you will not be disturbed.
Second, remove your shoes or any apparel that will interfere with your physical comfort in any way.
Third, now stretch out on your back, with your legs separated, so that no part of your calves or thighs are touching.
Keep feet separated at least 8 to 10 inches; arms extended loosely and limply alongside your body, palms facing
downward and fingers limply outstretched.
Once we begin, you can help by remaining quiet and passive. Our first goal is for you to become unaware of your
body. You can best achieve that goal by avoiding movement. The first thing that I want you to do is to fix your eyes
at a spot on the ceiling overhead. Pick out an imaginary spot, and stare at that spot without moving a muscle.
Now, take a deep breath and fill up your lungs. Exhale slowly. Sleep now. Now, take a second and even deeper
breath. Take in all the air that your lungs can hold. Exhale slowly. Sleep now. Now, let your eyelids close down.
Now, your eyelids are closed down. Please leave them closed down until I ask you to open them again. You will
always be able to open your eyes, unless I were to give you a direct command and tell you that your eyelids are
locked closed. And I don't intend to do that. Hypnosis is a state of mind, not a state of eyelids. Now, I want you to
mentally picture and imagine that you are looking at the muscles in the tips of the toes of your left foot. In your
imagination, follow those muscles as they move back into the ball of the foot. In your imagination, follow those
muscles as they move back into the ball of the foot. Back into the arch, and all the way back into the heel. Now, turn
all those muscles loose. Let them grow limp and lazy, just like a handful of loose rubber bands.
Now, as the muscles begin to relax, just let your mind relax, too. Let your mind drift where it will. Let your mind
drift off to pleasant scenes in you imagination. And now, let the relaxation move on up, into the ankle now. From the
ankle, all the way up to the left knee. The calf muscles begin to grow loose and limp -- heavy, and so relaxed. All of
your tensions are fading away. You're relaxing more with each easy breath that you take. Begin breathing more
deeply, now, just as you breathe each night, when you are deep and sound in slumber. Just imagine that you can see
your breath as a white mist, coming from your nostrils. Each and every time that you exhale this white mist, you are
freeing yourself of tension, and going deeper, deeper into drowsy relaxation. Now, from the knee, all the way to the
left hip, the long thigh muscles are turning loose, easing off, and just relaxing now. Now, as those muscles relax, just
let go a little more, and gently, calmly, easily, drift on over, into a pleasant state of easy relaxation.
Now let the wave of relaxation that started from the toes of your left foot just a few seconds ago -- let it move over
now into the toes of the right foot, back into the arch, and all the way back to the heel. Turn all of those muscles
loose, and go deeper and deeper into relaxation. Into the ankle, the muscles let go. From the ankle, all the way up to
the right knee. The calf muscles are turning loose and letting go. You're relaxing more with each easy breath that
you take. With each sound that you hear. Each sound carries you deeper, deeper and sounder in sleep. From the
knee, all the way up to the right hip. The long thigh muscles grow limp and lazy. Now, as those muscles relax, just
go all the way down, deeper and deeper in drowsy slumber. Turn them all loose and go deeper in sleep.
Now, the wave of relaxation moves on up, into the stomach now. Into the solar plexus, the center of nervous energy.
Each muscle and nerve lets loose the tensions, relaxing. You're drifting down, deeper and deeper in sleep. Down,
deeper in slumber. Up through the ribs, the muscles relax. Into the broad muscles of the chest. The muscles of the
chest grow limp and loose, and so relaxed. All of your tensions are fading away. You're relaxing now, more with
each easy beat of your heart, and going deeper in drowsy slumber. Into the neck, the muscles let go. All around the
neck, the muscles relax, just as they relax each night when you are deep and sound in sleep. Turn them all loose, and
go deeper and deeper in slumber. Now let the relaxation start down your back. From the base of the skull to the base
of the spine. Each muscle and nerve along the spine lets loose the tension, relaxing, your drifting down. Deeper and
deeper in sleep. down deeper in drowsy slumber. And the wave of relaxation spreads out into the broad muscles of
the back.
Now all across the small of the back. All across the back of the shoulders. Turn loose every muscle and every nerve
in the back, and go deeper and deeper in sleep. Into the shoulder, the muscles let go. From the shoulders, down to
the elbows of both arms. The upper arm muscles are turning loose, easing off, and just relaxing now. From the
elbows, down to the wrists on both arms, the forearm muscles grow limp and lazy. From the wrists to the fingertips
of both hands, each muscle and nerve lets loose the tensions, relaxing, you're drifting down. Deeper and deeper in
sleep. Into the jaws, the muscles relax. The jaws are parting slightly, teeth not quite touching. All around the mouth,
the muscles let go. Up through the nose, each nerve gives way. All around the eyes, the muscles are heavy, and so
relaxed. Even your eyebrows are relaxing now. Across the forehead, the muscles smooth out. Across the top of the
skull. Down the back of the neck. Down through the temples, back around the ears, all of the muscles are loose, and
lazy -- just like a handful of loose rubber bands.
And you may feel now, a pleasant tingling sensation in the tips of your toes, or in your fingertips -- a pleasant
tingling sensation, growing stronger and stronger now, as your entire body is being bathed in the pleasant glow of
complete and utter relaxation.
Now you are completely relaxed. Each muscle and nerve in your body is loose and limp and relaxed, and you feel
good.

AWARENESS INDUCTION - Terence Watts
I've found this to be a very good script for dealing with the Hypervigilant individual or the particularly analytical
type of personality. It is extremely permissive but at the same time, almost impossible to resist.
Ok, just make yourself comfortable now... if you want to close your eyes, that's a good idea, but if you don't, that's
fine too... now you can just listen quietly to the sound of my voice... and of course you'll be aware of all those other
sounds, too.... sounds inside the building, sounds from outside... but these won't disturb you... In fact they are going
to help to relax you, because the only sound you need to think about is the sound of my voice... and while you're
listening to the sound of my voice you can just simply allow yourself to be as lazy as you could ever want to be....
Just allow yourself to be as lazy as you could ever want to be...
Good... now, while you're relaxing there in the chair, you can just be aware of your body... aware of your hands
where they rest on the arms of the chair... perhaps noticing the angle of your elbows and maybe sensing the weight
of your head against the chair back... and, you know, that weight might seem to just gently increase as you allow
yourself to relax more and more... just being aware of your ankles and feet now, on the footrest, and wondering if
they will start to feel heavy too, as you... relax... thinking about your breathing for a few moments... noticing that
your breathing is becoming slower and steadier as you relax more and more... slower and steadier... breathing so
steadily and evenly... just as though you were pretending to be sound asleep... breathing so evenly, so steadily... you
almost wouldn't disturb a feather placed immediately in front of you... breathing so easily and slowly, so gently, that
you almost wouldn't disturb even a single strand of a feather placed right in front of you....
And as you allow yourself to relax even more now... I wonder if you can perhaps sense the beating of your own
heart... sensing the beat of your own heart and just seeing whether you can use the power of your mind to slow that
heartbeat down... just a touch... just seeing whether you can use the power of your mind to slow that heartbeat down
just a little... so that you can then feel your whole body slowing down... becoming lazier and lazier... because you've
got absolutely nothing whatsoever to do except to relax now... nobody wanting anything, nobody expecting
anything... so you can allow your whole body to continue to relax and become steadier and easier until it's just
ticking over... like a well maintained machine of some sort or another... just ticking over... smoothly... easily...
quietly... comfortably... so that you can become gradually more aware of your whole self... aware of your hands and
arms, just sensing how they are now... aware of your legs and feet, too... again just sensing how relaxed they might
be, and wondering if it's possible to relax them even more... to be so in touch with yourself that you can actually get
your whole body, perhaps, to relax even more... yet remaining totally alert... and noticing now how even your face
muscles can begin to really relax... relaxing and letting go of the tensions that were there, almost, but not quite,
completely unnoticed... just being vaguely aware of the skin and the muscles of your face settling... smoothing out...
a good feeling... wondering just how long all that tension had been there... where it all came from in the first place...
and then realising that you simply couldn't care less... because you can feel it draining away from you now... and
that feels good... and as you continue to sense the beating of your heart and the absolute steadiness of your body's
rhythm... you wonder at the fact that you are so absolutely relaxed and comfortable that you simply can't be bothered
to even try to move even one single muscle... even though you know you easily could... if you wanted to... I know
that you easily could, if you wanted to... but you simply can't be bothered to even try... allowing yourself to just be...
relaxed and relaxing even more now... as lazy and relaxed as anyone could ever wish to be... and I wonder if you can
now manage to relax even more... even though you are already as relaxed as it is possible for most people to ever
be... just finding the last tiny traces of tension in your body and simply letting them go... with each easy, gentle,
breath you breathe... allowing every muscle... every fibre... every cell of your entire body... to be as beautifully
relaxed as anyone could ever wish to be...
Now use a deepener if necessary, preferably one which actively features the client.

RELAXATION - Terence Watts
I can't really claim this as mine, of course, because it's a 'standard' relaxation script, notable only for it's brevity
(21/2 minutes, approximately). It's designed for use with a long-ish deepener.
Now I want you to think about the top of your head... many people don't realise that tension often starts in the little
muscles of the scalp, so I want you to think about those little muscles and the skin of your scalp and just allow them
to let go and relax... now all the muscles of your face, just let them let go slack... your forehead and your eyes and
eyelids... the cheeks, mouth and jaw muscles... it's a wonderful feeling when you let your face totally relax, because
you can actually feel the skin settling, smoothing out... it might mean that your mouth opens slightly, but whatever's
best to you, just let it happen... unclenching your teeth and relaxing your tongue, because the more you physically
relax, the more you can mentally relax... thinking about your neck and shoulder muscles now, and into the tops of
your arms, letting all tensions drain away as you think on down through your elbows... into your forearms... down
through your wrists and into your hands... right the way down into the very tips of your fingers and tips of your
thumbs... just letting all those muscles let go and relax... and now think about your breathing, noticing that you're
breathing even more steadily, even more slowly, as you relax more and more, so you can let any tension in the chest
area simply drain away as you think on down to your stomach muscles, letting those muscles relax, too... think down
into your back now, the long muscles either side of the spine, just let those muscles relax... and your waist... and
your main thigh muscles, as you think on down through your knees, down through the shins and calves, just
allowing all those areas to relax and let go, as you think on down through your ankles, through your feet, into the
very tips of your toes... all the muscles of your body beautifully relaxed and easy... very lazy...

DEEP RELAXATION METHOD
(Chuck Milligan)
(Transcribed From An Actual Show)
Place your feet down on the floor. Place one hand on each leg with your palms down.
Now look down on one of your hands, it doesn't matter which one, just look down at one of your hands. I want you
to watch that hand. I want you to concentrate on your hand. Do not remove your eyes from your hand.
Now notice the tightness of the skin on your hand. Notice the feel of the material that's underneath your hand, notice
any rings and any jewelry that might be on your hand, just watch that hand, just concentrate on that hand and listen,
listen to my voice only.
Think of relaxation only, any sound about this room other than my voice, let drift into the background, any thoughts
other than relaxation that come about, just let them come and pass.
Just watch that hand, concentrate on that hand, experience everything that you can about that hand and soon, soon
this pleasant drowsiness will come about, perhaps your eyes might begin to sting and burn, or perhaps they may
begin to water. Do not deliberately close your eyes, but don't make any effort to keep your eyes open, Just let your
eyes close whenever they want to, and you'll drift to a wonderful pleasant place of relaxation. Just let yourself go, as
you watch your hand it might become dark. It might become blurry, it may even disappear from your sight
altogether, do not refocus your eyes on your hand, just let your eyes close whenever they want to and you'll drift to
this wonderful, pleasant place, just let yourself go, as we go along I want you to be aware of your breathing and each
breath you take, each time that you exhale, let your neck relax and let your shoulders drop, just let them go, it will
feel wonderfully good,
I'm going to count from one to three and when I reach three, if you haven't closed your eyes down, I want you to
close your eyes at that time. Now you will always be able to open your eyes if you really want to, but leave them
closed until I ask you to open them. One, two, and three, letting your eyes close, letting your neck relax, letting your
shoulders drop, just let them go, as we go along you're going to find that your mind has a tendency to wander around
to other thoughts and other places, any time you find your mind wandering about, simply bring it back and focus
your attention on my voice, and you'll drift a little faster and a little more deeply relaxed than you were the moment
before.
To ensure that you're totally relaxed I'm going to mention several muscle groups of your body, as I mention these
groups of muscles I want you to focus your attention there, I want you to concentrate, focus you attention and relax
each group of muscles that I mention.
Concentrate on your face now and let your face muscles relax, you've relaxed your face, now relax the tiny, tiny
muscles around your eyes, you've relaxed your face and your eyes and now your neck, let your neck relax, you've
relaxed your neck and now your shoulders, let your shoulders drop, just let them go. You've relaxed your shoulders,
and now your arms and your hands are beginning to feel so heavy, so heavy as though lead weights were pulling
down on them. Relax your arms and your hands and your fingers, you've relaxed your arms and your hands and your
fingers, and now your chest, let your chest go, you've relaxed your chest, and now your stomach, you've relaxed
your stomach and now your hips, your hips and your thighs, your thighs and your knees, your knees and your calves,
your calves and your ankles, your ankles and your feet. Every nerve, every muscle, every fiber of your body is more
relaxed right now than you've ever been in your entire life, and you're going to continue to relax even more as we go
along.
I'm going to count to three and when I reach three I want everyone to take a deep breath and hold it. One, two and
three, a deep breath filling your lungs up and now exhale slowly, as you exhale slowly let all of your muscles relax,
just let them go and melt down farther and farther and farther, just let them all relax and melt.
Let's do that one more time, one, two and three, a deep breath, filling your lungs up with air and exhale slowly, as
you exhale let all of your muscles melt right down farther and farther and farther.
To ensure you're totally relaxed I'm gong to go through that relaxation of your body one more time, very quickly.
Concentrate on your face now and let your face muscles relax, you've relaxed your face, relax the tiny, tiny muscles
around your eyes. You've relaxed your face and your eyes and now your neck, let your neck relax, you've relaxed
your neck and now your shoulders, let your shoulders drop, just let them go, you've relaxed your shoulders and now
your arms and hands are feeling so heavy, so heavy as though those lead weights we're just pulling down on them,
relax your arms and your hands and your fingers, you've relaxed your arms and your hands and your fingers and
now your chest, letting your chest relax.
As we go along I may come by and I may touch you lightly on the side of the neck
If I move you, if I touch you in any way, do not be alarmed, do not be intimidated by my touch, just let it be your
signal to let go and relax and melt down farther and farther and farther as every nerve, every muscle, every fiber
continues to melt and drop down deeper and deeper and deeper.
As you relaxed your chest and now your stomach, I've relaxed your stomach and now your hips, your hips and your
thighs, your thighs and your knees, your knees and your calves, your calves and your ankles, your ankles and your
feet, every nerve, every muscle, every fiber just melting and dropping, it feels wonderfully good, it's going to feel
even better, even better as we go along.
At this point you're going to find it very, very easy to use your imagination. You're going to find it very easy to use
your imagination, I want you to use your imagination now and I want you to imagine that its a pleasant summers
day, its a pleasant summers day, just let go and relax and melt down farther and farther.
I want you to imagine that its a pleasant summers day and you're lying in a hammock stretched between two trees,
you can see the sunlight coming down through the leaves of the trees, and you can see the limbs of the trees as they
sway back and forth in the gentle summer breeze.
I'm going to count down from ten to one and on each number I count that hammock is going to sway back and forth,
back and forth, and each time that hammock swings you're going to continue to relax and melt and drop down
farther and deeper than you were a moment before.
Even if you're in the audience I may come by and I may move you or touch you or adjust your body position, if I do,
just let yourself go and drop way down, just letting go, relaxing and melting and dropping down farther and farther.
You're in this hammock now and this hammock is beginning to swing in the breeze, Ten, and you've relaxed, 9, 8, 7,
it feels warm and safe and comfortable, 7, 6, 5, 4, as the hammock goes B&F, B&F, just let yourself go, 4, 3, 2 and
1, all the way down.
Now I want you to use your imagination just one more time.
Now, use your imagination just one more time and this time I want you to imagine that you're in an office building,
it's a twenty story office building and you are way up on the twentieth floor, you're going to ride the elevator from
the twentieth floor down to the very first floor, and each floor that passes by, each floor that goes by, you're going to
continue to drop and relax, down farther and deeper relaxed than the floor before.
You're in the elevator now and the elevator is beginning to move.
There goes the 19th floor, you've relaxed.
There goes the 18th floor,
There goes the 17th floor, just let yourself go and melt yourself down to the 16th floor.
Down to the 16th floor.
The 15th floor, the 14th floor, your whole body feels like a rag doll as you melt to the 14th floor, the 13th, the 12th,
the 11th, the 10th, the 9th, the 8th floor, it feels as if there are magnets in the bottom of this elevator, those magnets
are pulling down on your body, they're pulling you right down to the very carpet of the elevator.
Just let go and relax down to the 7th floor, the 6th floor, the 5th, the 4th, the 3rd, the 2nd, as the sound of my voice,
even the sound of my voice helps you to relax and helps you to drop down to the 3rd floor, the 2nd floor, and we're
almost down to that very first floor, and as soon as I reach that number 1 floor your body is going to feel like a
puppet, your body will feel like a puppet that has strings attached to your arms and your hands and your feet and
your legs, and as soon as I reach that number 1 floor, it's going to feel like I cut all of your puppet strings at once,
you won't even be able to support your body weight because all of your puppet strings would have been cut.
Get ready to let go, get ready to let go completely, here it comes, 3, 2 and 1, down deeper and deeper just letting go,
relaxing and melting and dropping.
Now from this point on, from this point on, whenever I count to 3 everyone is going to sit up feeling great, fresh and
wonderful, feeling really, really good.
However if I say the word "sleep", if I say the word "sleep" and I shake your hand, if I do either those two things
you're going to go right back, you're going to go right back to the same wonderful place that you are right now.
And each time you go back to this pleasant wonderful place you're going to go twice as quickly, twice as deeply
relaxed as you were the time before.
Now shake their hand and repeat sleep and do what you will!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STAIRCASE METHOD
In a moment I'm going to relax you more completely. In a moment I'm going to begin counting backwards from 10
to 1.
The moment I say the number 10 you will allow your eyelids to remain closed. The moment I say the number 10,
you will, in your minds eye, see yourself at the top of a small set of stairs.
The moment I say the number 9, and each additional number, you will simply move down those stairs relaxing more
completely. At the base of the stairs is a large feather bed, with a comfortable feather pillow.
The moment I say the number one you will simply sink into that bed, resting your head on that feather pillow.
Number 10, eyes closed at the top of those stairs. Ten ...
Nine, relaxing and letting go. Nine ...
Eight, sinking into a more comfortable, calm, peaceful position ...
Seven ....
Six ... going way down ...
Five ... moving down those stairs, relaxing more completely.
Four ...
Three ... breathe in deeply ...
Two ... On the next number, number one, simply sinking into that bed, becoming more calm, more peaceful, more
relaxed ...
One ... Sinking into that feather bed, let every muscle go limp and loose as you sink into a more calm, peaceful state
of relaxation.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
STIFF ARM METHOD
Spoken to the subject
Raise and stiffen your arm. Make a fist. (Help subject achieve this position, then let go) That's good. Just like a steel
bar, stiff and powerful. So stiff and rigid and so powerful that the more you try to lower or bend your arm, the stiffer
and tighter it becomes. Try to lower or bend your arm and find it locking stiff; stiff and rigid. The harder you try, the
stiffer it becomes.
That's fine. When I touch your forehead, your arm drops limply down and you go deeper in sleep. (Tap forehead)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
RAPID METHOD
Begin by having the subject hold their arms stretched out directly in front of them, so that the palms of the hands
are facing each other. Have the hands about 6 inches apart.
Spoken to the subject
You may now lower your hands back to your side. In just a moment I am going to have you bring your hands back
to this position, and you will find it very easy to go into a deep pleasant level of hypnosis in just a matter of seconds.
Would this be all right with you? (You must have the subjects consent before proceeding any further)
Now close your eyes, and take in a couple of deep easy breaths. Hold each breath for a moment and then exhale
slowly.
In just a moment I am going to have you extend your arms in front of you, just as you had them a moment ago.
When I ask you to move your hands to this position I am then going to have you open your eyes, and follow my
simple instructions.
Remaining relaxed, and at ease, I want you to extend your arms out in front of you just as you had them earlier.
(After subject extends their arms adjust the distance between the hands to about six inches. Hold your index finger at
eye level, and instruct subject to follow the movement of your finger. Slowly move your index finger between their
hands)
Now I want you to concentrate on my finger. In just a moment I am going to move my finger away, and I want you
to begin to concentrate on the spot where my finger was.
(Quickly move your finger in a downward motion)
You are doing good. Keep concentrating on the spot where my finger used to be.
I am going to begin to count from 3 down to 1. On the count of one allow your eyes to close.
Three, your eyes are feeling heavy, and tired.
Two, they are beginning to water, and tear slightly.
One, so heavy just allow them to close, and relax.
Even with your eyes closed you can still imagine that spot between your hands.
I am now gently touching your hands, and as I do notice that your hands are beginning to move together.
In just a moment your hands will touch. As they touch your entire body will feel loose, and limp. You will be going
into a very deep hypnotic state. The hands are moving closer, and closer. The moment that they touch the whole
body becomes lose and limp. You will be going into a very special kind of sleep. Almost there get ready to let go.
The moment that they touch you go into a very deep special type of sleep.
(As the hands move together, have your hands in a position that will allow you to lightly slap the outside of the
subjects hands, and thus pushing them together. You must be ready the moment that the subjects hands touch. At the
exact moment when the subjects hands touch, rapidly, and firmly slap the two hands together while giving the
command to sleep. At the same moment lightly apply a downward motion to the subjects hands. This will cause the
subject to bend at the waist. Allow the arms to dangle at the subjects side)

HAND BREATHING - Terence Watts
A fairly unusual induction method which works well for almost anybody.
Standard 'settling down' introduction, then:
Now I'm going to ask you to concentrate on your breathing for a few moments... but I wonder if you can imagine a
very strange idea... a very strange idea indeed... I wonder if you can imagine that you can actually breathe... through
your finger-tips... just imagine that rather strange idea that you can actually breathe in through your finger-tips...
imagine that you can feel the air moving into your hands... quite slowly at first... just with a faint tingling sensation
which you might feel on the back of your hands... or perhaps in your palms... and then just imagine that feeling
moving slowly along your arms... through your elbows... just imagine that comforting flow of air moving through
your elbows into your upper arms... and then into your shoulders... both arms... both shoulders... maybe finding
again that faint tingling sensation... perhaps in your elbows or forearms this time... then moving down through the
body... down into your legs... and through the thighs... through the knees into your shins and calves... and again, you
might feel that faint tingling sensation, just there, just below your knees... then down through your ankles and into
your feet... and out through the feet...
And you can find a great deal of calmness and easiness... in that rather strange idea that you can breathe in through
your fingers... that you can actually feel the air moving through your whole body... in one single, warming,
comforting... unidirectional flow... and because it is a unidirectional flow of air.... moving through your whole body
in one single comforting flow... the calmness and relaxation you breathe in... simply doesn't get involved with the
tensions and stresses that you breathe away from yourself... the calmness and relaxation that you breath in... simply
doesn't get involved with the tensions and anxieties that you breath away from yourself... so that with each breath
you take... with each word I speak... you find yourself becoming steadily more and more... relaxed... with each
breath you take, with each word I speak... you become steadily more and more... relaxed... beginning now, perhaps,
to notice the weight of your head against the back of the chair... wondering if that weight might seem to gently
increase as you relax even more... the weight of your feet on the footrest... wondering if that weight, too, might seem
to gently increase... even as you think about it... and some people can find that sensation of total relaxation... that
feels as if they are actually beginning to sink gently through the chair... actually beginning to sink gently through the
chair... so that it seems almost as if the chair is beginning to envelop you... you are so relaxed... a good feeling... a
feeling of great calmness and safety... great calmness... that increases with each breath you take, with each word I
speak... as you continue to breathe in through your fingers... allowing that comforting, warming, relaxing flow of
air... to move through your whole body and out through your feet...
And this is something you can do for yourself whenever you want to... simply settle yourself into a comfortable
position... with your eyes closed... then simply imagine yourself breathing in through your fingers.... imagine that
flow of air comforting and relaxing every part of your body.... then breathing out through your feet... and each time
you breathe out just say to yourself: "Relax... now..."... just saying: "Relax... now..." to yourself with each breath
you breath... will act as a trigger to your subconscious mind... and on the fourth time you say it... on the fourth time
you say it... you'll find yourself to be more relaxed... than you've ever been before...
Now to a suitable deepener if necessary.

SEVEN PLUS OR MINUS TWO - Terence Watts
Use this induction with analytical or intellectually orientated clients. It contains elements of confusion and since
it is almost impossible to resist, it works particularly well with those who tend to find 'normal' relaxation
inductions uncomfortable. Use a 'standard' preparation to begin.
All right, just allow yourself to be as lazy as you want to be... listening quietly to the sound of my voice... and while
you're listening quietly to the sound of my voice concentrating for a few moments on your breathing... breathing
slowly and steadily, just as though you were sound asleep, or pretending to be sound asleep... and imagining,
perhaps, just how comfortable you might look while you're relaxing there in the chair... using the power of your
mind to see yourself in your mind's eye... and then using the power of your mind to do whatever has to happen to
make you look even more relaxed... and still thinking about your breathing, making quite sure that each breath in
lasts the same length of time as the last breath in... and each breath outwards lasts the same length of time as the last
breath out... even though each breath in will probably be slightly shorter than each breath out... and while you're
thinking about your breathing, noticing, perhaps, the weight of your head against the back of the chair... and still
listening quietly to the sound of my voice...
And while you're listening quietly to the sound of my voice, it maybe that you'll become aware that you've forgotten
to think about your breathing... but that's all right, you can just simply start thinking about your breathing again
while you're listening quietly to the sound of my voice and what I'm saying to you here... and in psychology, there's
a rule called... seven plus or minus two... and that means that most people can think of seven things all at once... plus
or minus two... so you should be able to think of at least five things all at the same time... the sound of my voice...
the steadiness of your breathing... the weight of your head against the back of the chair... and how you might look
from the outside... and that's four things... so you can think of those four things while you're listening to the sound of
the music I'm playing in the background... so that's five things, now... and I wonder if you can think about those five
things and then at the same time notice the way your feet feel on the footrest of the chair... and perhaps how your
arms feel... and that's seven things now... the sound of my voice... the weight of your head against the back of the
chair... the music playing in the background... they way you look while you're relaxing... and your breathing... and
your arms... and your feet on the footrest... and I wonder if you can now add an eighth thing into all of that... I
wonder if your mind is powerful enough to think of seven plus one things... adding in, perhaps, an awareness of the
temperature of the room... and then just testing to see whether you can add yet another input to your senses... so that
you're thinking of NINE things all at once... that's seven plus two... thinking about all those eight inputs to your
senses and then maybe adding an awareness of the way your eyes feel while you're thinking about all those other
things... the weight of your head... your breathing... the music in the background... how you look from the outside...
the temperature of the room... your feet on the footrest... your arms... the sound of my voice... and how your eyes
feel...
The weight of your head... your breathing... the music in the background... how you look from the outside... the
temperature of the room... your feet on the footrest... your arms... the sound of my voice... and how your eyes feel...
and of course, when anybody thinks of all these things, what they are really doing is scanning round them one after
the other... very quickly... so quickly, it feels as if you're thinking of them all at once... and in the world of
computers, that would be called timesharing... sharing your available resources between the different tasks you are
attempting to perform all at once... and that's why some people can think of only five things... because it's the limit
of their memory... while others can actually think of nine things... and I wonder how well your memory is working
as you struggle to remember those nine things... the weight of your head... your breathing... the music in the
background... how you look from the outside... the temperature of the room... your feet on the footrest... your arms...
the sound of my voice... and how your eyes feel...
And now you can think how good it will feel... when you simply allow yourself to think of only the most important
thing of all... concentrating all your energies onto that one most important thing of all... which is going to be so easy
to think of, now that you are going to allow yourself to think of only one thing instead of nine... and that one thing is
how good it feels to think of only one thing... thinking how relaxed you can be now... that you're only thinking of
how relaxed you might like to be... relaxing in your mind... and in your body... no need to think anything at all,
really... no need to do anything... nobody wanting anything and nobody expecting anything... and absolutely nothing
whatsoever for you to do except to... relax.

TROPICAL ISLAND - Terence Watts
Fairly standard and very effective. The cloud metaphor is very useful for anxiety sufferers.
In a moment I'm going to ask you to imagine certain things... but it doesn't matter if you find you can't imagine all
the things I'm asking you to. You might even find your mind wandering quite a bit, so that my voice just fades into
the background, but that doesn't matter either. the sound of my voice is going to continue to relax you and it really
doesn't matter if you don't hear a word I say, because very soon now, you are going to be more relaxed than you
have ever known... imagine yourself standing on the very top of a green hill on a tropical island... you can feel the
warmth of the sun on your head and shoulders and can see the long grasses around you moving slightly in the
gentlest of breezes... when you look down the hill you can see a narrow, winding path that disappears into a small
forest.. and beyond the forest you can see the ocean... with sunlight from the clearest of blue skies glancing off the
tops of the waves in the bay... so that the whole ocean seems to shimmer and sparkle... you begin to move lazily and
easily down the path, with the ferns and grasses brushing gently against your legs as you pass... and you just catch
the faint smell of salt borne in on the breeze...
...and become aware of the distant sound of the ocean on the shore... maybe hear seabirds calling faintly, from a long
way off... you marvel at the deep sense of calmness and tranquillity that sweeps over you, as you move on down and
down towards the forest... moving so easily, so effortlessly, you feel almost as though you're floating on air... and in
no time at all you find yourself drifting through the trees, their leaves closing overhead to form a canopy... their
branches making an irregular pattern against the clear blue of the sky... It's pleasantly cool in the forest and the
gentle sound of birds singing, echoing faintly, and the scent of the trees and undergrowth relaxes you still further...
as you move easily into the inviting depths, becoming lazier and lazier with each step you take...
You can hear a stream somewhere, its gurgling sound gradually mingling with the sound of the ocean... as you
follow the winding path down and down towards the beach that you know is in front of you, weaving through the
trees and brushing aside the occasional piece of foliage... until, quite suddenly... you feel the warmth of the sun on
your head and shoulders again and you find yourself on a beautiful deserted beach... a beautiful golden shore line
sweeping away in a gentle curve in front of you, to a distant point where the trees seem to come right down to the
shoreline, so that their branches actually seem to overhang the ocean itself... you can feel the sand warm between
your toes as you stroll lazily across the broad beach to the water's edge... the sand becomes a darker golden colour
when you get there, and you enjoy the change to a moist, firm coolness beneath your feet as you wander along the
shore, leaving a lazy trail of footprints in the sand behind you... every so often a larger than usual wave sends
rivulets of water foaming around your feet...
...and as they recede, you notice how the sand is washed away from tiny coloured pebbles, glinting like jewels in the
sun... the smell of the ocean, the sunlight on the waves, the sound of the water hissing over the sand... all these
things seem to create a sense of timelessness for some unknown reason... and you find yourself a comfortable
position, a grassy hollow maybe, to just sit and gaze out across the rolling depths to the horizon... trickling warm,
golden sand idly through your fingers... there's a faint haze which makes it difficult for you to see exactly where the
sky stops and the ocean starts... and as you try to fathom it out, you see a small white cloud appear from somewhere
near the horizon... it comes towards the island quite quickly, growing larger as it approaches, until it's immediately
overhead... the largest, fluffiest, whitest cloud you can ever remember...
And you somehow know, just by instinct, that you can let all your worries, all your cares, all your fears, just drift up
towards this large white cloud... you can actually see them drifting away from you in a long slow spiral... maybe like
smoke from a bonfire... just spiralling away from you towards this large white cloud... the cloud absorbs all your
worries into itself, swallowing up all your fears and anxieties and becoming steadily darker all the time, until, just as
it reaches its darkest, just as the last part of that spiral of your worries and cares disappears inside it... the sun bursts
through!... dispelling every one of your worries, every one of your fears and anxieties, to the edges of the universe...
leaving you totally relaxed and perfectly at ease with yourself, without a single care in the World... and now, all your
troubles and cares having floated away from you, you settle yourself down into a comfortable position and just drift
off into a deep and relaxing sleep... and while you sleep, you have a dream...
You dream you're walking down a long corridor, stretching away in front of you in a long gentle curve... so long that
you can't actually see the end of it... but you know that this corridor is in the very depths of your subconscious
mind... in the part of your mind that knows just what to do and just how to do it... and as you begin to move along
this beautiful corridor, becoming even more relaxed, even more lazy, you realise that time and space are beginning
to lose their meaning... and slowly the walls of the corridor seem to dissolve, leaving you in a large room... the room
is full of a gentle golden light that relaxes you still further and you suddenly realise, with a surge of inspiration and
pleasure... that what you once saw as limits are merely stepping stones to greater success... it suddenly dawns on
you, with a surge of joy and anticipation, that what once seemed to you to be the limits of your personality, of your
skills and abilities, are nothing more than stepping stones to even greater success... one wall of this room is like a
huge television screen with words and images flashing across it too fast for you to see... and you realise that this is
information being transmitted to different parts of your mind and body... and you use your mind to will it to stop and
as you do so, the screen clears and the word 'READY' appears in large flashing letters... And now your mind is
prepared and receptive to everything I am going to say to you... and everything I say will be accepted and acted
upon by your subconscious... it will have a steadily increasing effect upon the way you think, the way you feel, and
the way you behave over the coming days, and weeks, and months...
----------------------------------------------------------------
THE MAGIC RAINBOW - Terence Watts
This is one of my favourite deepeners, usually producing a very deep state. The 'ripples' metaphor at the end is
excellent for those who have trouble relating to others.
And now you're so beautifully relaxed... nobody wanting anything, nobody expecting anything, and absolutely
nothing whatsoever for you to do except to relax... I want you just to let your mind and your imagination drift...
feeling lazy, easy, and comfortable... and I want you to imagine that you're standing on the terrace of a lovely old
house... a house like a stately home or country mansion... you can feel the sun on your head and shoulders... not too
hot, just comfortable... and there's a gentle breeze playing against your skin... as you look around you, you notice an
elegant marble flight of steps... ten broad steps leading down into a beautiful sunken garden... a garden where you
sense peace, well-being and comfort... Make it really vivid in your mind... In a moment I'm going to count down
from ten down to zero and as I count all the way down from ten, down to zero, I want you to imagine that each
number is a step down on this beautiful staircase... a step down towards this beautiful garden... and each step you
take... is another step down into deeper and even deeper levels of relaxation... so that by the time I get to zero, you
will be as deeply relaxed as you can ever imagine... whilst still being able to hear and respond to the sound of my
voice...
10... take the first step down now, relaxing and letting go...
9... feeling more and more relaxed... no need to hurry... plenty of time...
8... moving down easily now...
7... deeper and deeper...
6... deeper still, your breathing becoming slower and steadier...
5... really relaxing now... just... let go.
4... becoming calmer and calmer...
3... calmer still now...
2... more and more relaxed.
1... all the way down now to...
0...
And now you find yourself in this wonderful garden... you can feel the softness of the newly cut grass beneath your
feet... as the scent of masses upon masses of brightly coloured flowers seems to envelope you... and there's the
gentle sound of birds singing... echoing faintly in the stillness of the air... it's almost a magical place, stretching into
the distance as far as the eye can see in all directions, with beautiful shrubs, tall elegant trees... and an ornamental
fountain which seems to feed in to a gently trickling stream... this fascinates you and you wander to the edge of the
stream and gently lower yourself down onto the soft, grassy bank...and just sit for a while, gazing into the cool clear
water... marvelling at the sense of tranquillity that sweeps over you... and listening to the faint sound of the fountain
splashing into the pool that feeds this gentle stream... after a little while you lay back on the grass and gaze up at the
clearest of blue skies... and as you relax more and more, your eyes begin to close and you just drift off into a deep
and relaxing sleep... and as you sleep, you have a dream...
You dream that your whole body is becoming lighter... lighter and lighter... so light that you feel you must surely
begin to float on air at any moment... and then you feel yourself just floating and drifting, gently borne aloft and
supported by the softest of warm breezes... and you can somehow see, through your closed eyelids that you're
floating in a sea of colour... a warm sea of colour that relaxes and comforts you as you just drift... suspended in
warmth and colour that seems somehow unreal and yet, at the same time, has a comfortingly familiar feel to it...
you're aware of misty reds and orange.. soft, muted yellow tones, gentle greens and blues that seem somehow like
clouds... and the deepest, softest indigos and violets that you could ever have imagined... and it begins to dawn on
you that you're floating in a rainbow, a magical rainbow... because in this rainbow, time and space doesn't exist in
the same way that we usually know it... you might have floated there for just a moment... or for a hundred years...
maybe for a lifetime... or just perhaps for the blinking of an eye... you could have floated forwards in time, to a time
that could be far beyond our future... or maybe back in time, back before your own lifetime... it gradually begins to
seem to you that you might even be able to float here for just as long as you wish... with this wonderful relaxed
feeling... just floating and drifting through this magical sea of gentle flowing colours where time seems to be
suddenly of so little importance...
You are still pondering on these thoughts, when you feel yourself beginning to float gently downwards...lower and
lower, softly sinking down, down through this beautiful rainbow... becoming even more relaxed, even more lazy...
until, eventually, you realise that you've stopped floating downwards... and you find yourself on the shore of a
tranquil lake... a large tranquil lake, surrounded by softly rolling hills that are shrouded in a gentle, silver mist...
there are trees and sweetly scented flowering shrubs, and grasses growing at the water's edge... and everything is
bathed in a beautiful golden light... a golden light that seems to bathe everything in its warmth... and you find
yourself marvelling at the sense of deep calmness and comfort that seems to fill your entire being, as you stroll lazily
along the sandy shore of this wonderful lake... noticing with a sort of lazy curiosity that it seems to be constantly
changing colour... subtle changes blending so smoothly... that it's difficult for you to know exactly when limpid blue
has become a deep, soft violet... or when that deep violet became a relaxing, translucent green... the changes of
colour fascinate you, and you settle yourself down onto a small smooth rock and just gaze out across the crystal
clear waters...
Every so often, something, a fish maybe... just something... just breaks the surface, creating ripples that seem to flow
gently and endlessly in all directions...ripples that eventually lap against the edges of the rock that you're sitting on,..
you smile and lean forward to dabble your hand amongst them... and as you do so, you create yet more ripples,
ripples that shimmer in a kaleidoscope of different colours across the lake...interacting with the others and making
new, ever changing patterns... you realise that this tranquil place is the pool of all knowledge... that while you are
here, you are part of everything and everything a part of you...and you find it easy, so very easy to open your mind...
to let go of any barriers to memory or learning...
And now your mind is prepared and receptive to everything I am going to say to you... and everything I say, if it is
for your benefit, will be accepted and acted upon by the subconscious... it will have a steadily increasing effect upon
the way you think, the way you feel, and the way you behave, and the influence of these suggestions, as they are for
your benefit, will continue to increase over the coming days, and weeks, and months...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SPACE - Terence Watts
Another one of my favourites, again producing a very deep state.
In a moment I'm going to ask you to imagine certain things... but it doesn't matter if you can't imagine all the things
I'm asking you to.... you might even find your mind wandering quite a bit, so that my voice just fades into the
background... but that doesn't matter, either... the sound of my voice is going to continue to relax you and very soon
now, you're going to find yourself to be more relaxed than you can ever remember...
Now I want you to imagine yourself getting into a large airy elevator... a truly luxurious elevator with ten floors to
go down... it's warm and comforting inside here and softly lit... with a beautiful carpet on the floor and a really
comfortable chair for you to sit in... and as the doors glide silently closed, you just lower yourself into this
wonderful chair and gaze idly at the indicator as the elevator starts to move very gently downwards... and as each
number changes, so you allow yourself to be twice as relaxed as you were on the floor above... as relaxed as you are
now, just allowing yourself to be twice as relaxed as you were before as each number changes... so that when it
shows floor nine, you're twice as relaxed as when you first got into the elevator... floor eight now, and even more
relaxed... moving down into an ever-increasing sense of laziness... seven, more and more relaxed... floor six now...
deeper and deeper, settling further into that comfortable chair... five, half way down now... four, more and more
relaxed... just... let go... three, deeper now, and still deeper... two, calmer and quieter... one, almost all the way down
now, just one more floor to go down to... zero... and as the doors of the elevator glide silently open, you just rise
lazily from the chair and stroll outside... and as you do so, the doors close again with a gentle swish and you hear the
elevator start to ascend again...
And now you find yourself in a long corridor, sweeping away in front of you in a long gentle curve so that you can't
actually see the end of it... but you somehow know that there's nobody here but you, and you begin to feel even more
lazy, even more relaxed, as you move further into the inviting depths... the a soft, gentle light and a comforting
warmth that relaxes you still further with every step you take... and as you just continue to move lazily and
effortlessly along this corridor, you realise that it's turning into a sort of tunnel... you notice something else, too...
you notice that you're getting just a bit too warm for comfort now and discover that for some daft reason, you're
wearing a really heavy winter coat... a really heavy, thick winter coat that seems to hang on you like a ton weight,
and you decide to take it off... but the buttons are tight and you have to struggle with them for a moment or two
before you can undo them... then suddenly... you're free!
And you just slip the coat off and drop it on the floor as if it was the most natural thing to do... feeling mightily
relieved that you've done so and a lot more comfortable now as you continue on your way... the tunnel becomes
gradually darker, and you can see a small spot of light at the far end of it... a small spot of light that doesn't actually
seem to be getting any closer, even though you know you're moving towards it... just following one lazy, easy step
with another... and marvelling at how you can hardly feel your feet touching the ground... after a while... the floor of
the tunnels starts to slope gently downwards... you can feel yourself moving down and down and down... like
walking down a gentle hill... and you realise that you must be in a huge underground cavern, because the small dot
of light is above your eye level now... but you can still see it... you can still see it... like a small star in the darkness
of a night sky, as you move on down and down... and you begin to find yourself feeling cooler now, the further
down you go... cooler and cooler... until you're actually very cold and wishing you'd still got that winter coat that
you so casually discarded... and by the time the path starts to move up again, you're actually shivering with colds
and feeling a distinct draught from somewhere in front of you....
It's not long before the upward path levels out again and you notice that the small dot of white light is actually
getting closer now... becoming larger and larger, and brighter and brighter as you get closer and closer to the end of
the tunnel... larger and larger and brighter and brighter until you're almost able to reach out and put your hand to it...
and then, quite suddenly, you feel the welcoming warmth of the sun on your head and shoulders and you realise that
you've left the tunnel and you're in a vast sunlit valley... a huge expanse of green and light... you look around you,
and to your surprise, the tunnel has completely disappeared... there's absolutely nothing that even remotely
resembles anything that could be a tunnel... and you're in the middle of this lush green valley that stretches
beautifully in all directions as far as they eye can see... there're misty hills in the distance wherever you look and it
dawns on you that this valley is actually a huge natural bowl... there are trees and rock formations... a small forest...
and just a little way down the hill you're standing on, a gently trickling stream, glittering in the sunlight, with a
narrow pathway running alongside it...
You begin to move down the hill towards the stream, noticing the firm springiness of the grass beneath your feet...
marvelling at the sense of deep calmness and tranquillity that seems to fill every pore of your entire body... a
tranquillity that seems to be all around and within you as you move on down this hillside towards the gently
trickling stream... your tread becomes steadily lighter until you see hardly to feel the ground beneath your feet... and
you soon find your whole body becoming lighter... lighter and lighter... until you just float upwards... up and up and
up... supported by the softest of warm breezes... and it all seems totally normal to you... absolutely natural... as you
gaze down at the countryside beneath you... you realise too, that not only are you becoming lighter, you're becoming
smaller as well... and the smaller you become, the faster you travel upwards... smaller and smaller, travelling faster
and faster... until you're moving at an absolutely tremendous speed... accelerating upwards and actually beginning to
leave the earth behind you... accelerating into space with a feeling of jubilation and excitement.... travelling so fast
now, you're moving almost as fast as the speed of light... becoming smaller and smaller until your body is no larger
than a tiny speck of dust...
And all around you is a soft velvet darkness like a midnight sky... with the earth hanging motionless like a great blue
and white globe... and you feel yourself slowing down... slower and slower... until you've stopped moving
altogether... just hanging motionless amongst the stars... feeling a part of all creation, a part of all knowledge... part
of the limitless space that is the very universe itself... after a while, you realise that you're beginning to drift slowly
downwards... moving closer to earth... drifting down a stream of light that might be a ray of sunlight... closer and
closer... almost dazzled by brilliant colours and light... softly, gently, sinking down and down and down... until you
find yourself enveloped in a beautiful golden warmth... with this wonderful relaxed feeling... a feeling of being a
part of everything... that everything is a part of you... enveloped in a beautiful, golden light and warmth that seems
to be somehow all around and within you... and you realise that at this moment, you are in touch with all
knowledge....
And now your mind is prepared and receptive to everything I'm going to say to you, because during this state of
special relaxation, your subconscious mind can come to the fore so that can accept ideas and concepts that are
beneficial to you. It accepts and acts upon these ideas, helping you, guiding you... guiding you towards your hopes
and desires, helping you to achieve your aims and goals... and the influence of these suggestions, where they are for
your benefit, will have a steadily increasing effect upon the way you think, the way you act, and the way you
behave... over the coming days and weeks and months.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
THE MAGIC FAIRGROUND - Terence Watts
This is an unusual one, in that it's dynamic, rather than restful. It is a particularly good script for analytical
work, as well as for Past Life Regression experiments.
I wonder if you can imagine, just a for a moment or two, that you're walking along next to a park on a warm Autumn
evening... the edge of the footpath is lined with those old-fashioned green railings, stretching away in front of you in
a gentle curve, so that you can't see where they finish... but you know that they lead all the way down to the park
gate... inside the railings there's a tall hedge... too tall for you to see over... but from the other side of it you can hear
the sounds of a funfair... and you can hear the sounds of people, too, carefree people, having fun and enjoying
themselves.
The sun is just on the point of setting, leaving a golden glow in the sky as dusk begins to fall... and by the time you
reach the entrance gate, the fairground is a blaze of coloured lights, twinkling, flashing, sparkling, some of them
seeming to chase each other around animated displays... the hum of the generators mingles with the music from the
rides and the shouted patter of stall holders... and you smile in anticipation as you hand over your entrance fee at the
gate and move inside...
You stroll between tents and side-shows... stepping over the occasional heavy cable snaking across the grass... just
gazing around you... for the moment, quite happy to simply observe other people enjoying themselves... a smiling
stallholder thrusts a handful of darts towards you, and gestures towards the many unwon prizes... he says something
you don't quite catch and you smile and shake your head... then turn your attention to an individual trussed up in
chains and huge padlocks... you watch his contortions in fascination, then applaud with the other spectators when he
throws his bonds to the ground and raises his arms above his head in a gesture of triumphant freedom...
You notice a small crowd a little way ahead and you stroll idly towards them, wondering what it is that's attracted
their attention... as you approach, you catch the savoury smell of hot dogs and onions and you can see a large and
jolly lady serving the crowd from a sizzling hotplate... there's a man roasting chestnuts nearby, on an old-fashioned
barrow... and just beyond him, someone with a candyfloss stall... you stand and take in this scene for a moment or
two, realising that you must be in the very heart of the fairground, surrounded by sights and smells that transport
your mind back through the years....
You find yourself gazing at the entrance to the helter-skelter and a long-forgotten urge assails you suddenly... you
hurry to the door at the base of what now seems like the tallest tower you have ever seen... and then you're moving
up the wooden spiral staircase... your feet sounding hollow on the boards... your hand sliding easily along the
handrail that's been so well polished by the hands of thousands of people before you as you go on up and up... round
and round... until you're out in the open again, clutching a small mat at the top of the slide spiralling away in front of
you....
It's cooler up here and the sounds of the fairground seem to have faded almost completely away... it seems to you,
just for a moment, that you're almost alone here, poised silently above the crowd below you... you place the mat on
the slide and sit on it, legs sticking out straight in front of you, your hands tucked under your knees as you begin to
move, slowly at first... then faster and faster so that the painted walls next to you are just a blur as you race down
and down, round and round, your breath being almost snatched away from you, until you come to an abrupt halt as
you skid into the grass at the bottom... parting company from your mat and feeling distinctly disorientated.
As you get to your feet, you notice that everything seems quieter than it was before and it dawns on you that you
might have been sliding down this spiral for far longer than you thought... so long, in fact, that... just for a
moment.... it seems to you that by some weird trick of fate, you've been transported to another time, another place...
but then all the fairground sounds seem to return at once and you realise that it was just your imagination....
You're still pondering on this realisation, when you find yourself outside a small tent which bears the sign: 'Palmist
and Fortune Teller'... you duck inside the half-open flap and look around you in the dim light... there's a table with a
white cloth spread on it and a chair in front of it... on the table, there's a large crystal ball on a black plinth... the dim
light seems to be coming from deep inside it so that it seems to glow... and you stare at it in fascination as you sit
down to wait for the fortune teller to arrive....
You gradually become aware that you can see movement in the crystal ball and you just don't seem to be able to
resist leaning forward to see more closely... the scene becomes sharper, more focused, and you find yourself looking
at a familiar figure, though, at first, you can't quite place who it is... then you realise that it's you!
[FOR ANALYSIS/REGRESSION] It's you, in a scene from your childhood, a scene from your childhood being
enacted in front of your eyes, just as it happened so many years ago...
[FOR SUGGESTION WORK] It's you, looking just as you would like to look... [etc.]
The scene fades, and you wait for a moment or two, hoping against hope that it'll return... but the crystal ball
remains dark and since there seems to be no sign of the fortune teller, you leave the tent and wander on your way...
You're lost in your thoughts as you stroll lazily along... and almost without realising how you got there, you find
yourself astride a horse on a carousel... the carousel is a dazzle of red and yellow, green and gilt, and you clutch a
golden-painted support as the music starts and the horses begin to move... gradually gaining speed... silver manes
flowing and seeming almost to give them life as the ride goes faster and faster... the horses seem to leap and gallop
and you cling tightly to the pole as they whirl you around and around...
When the ride finally stops... you can't quite get your bearings for a moment or two... it feels to you as if you've got
off the carousel at a totally different place to where you got on... but for some reason or another, you simply couldn't
care less, especially when you see the entrance to the hall of mirrors... you hurry inside and stand grinning at the
distorted images you see there... one moment, you're long and wavy... the next quite squat, shorter than you can ever
remember being... then, in the very next instant, having a small body but with an enormous head...
[FOR ANALYSIS/REGRESSION] Then suddenly, you find yourself gazing at a reflection that seems to make you
look just as you did when you were a child... and just for a fleeting instant, you see other people in that reflection,
too, other people and maybe another place from you childhood years... and you realise that at this very moment you
could simply decide to see more of that image, recall more of that memory... you can simply choose to do it... or
not... and you decide not, just for the moment...
[FOR SUGGESTION WORK] Then suddenly, you find yourself gazing at an image of you that is just as you want
to be, the you that you begin to realise you will be, when... [etc.]
And then you move on through this mirror maze... thoughtful at first but then grinning at what seems to be a
hundred images of you as you try to find the exit route...
When you do, the first thing you see is a huge semi-circular sign around what looks like a dark tunnel... the sign is
fluorescent, glowing, the letters continually changing colour... but you can see that it says: 'Time Tunnel... travellers
enter here'... you pause for just the briefest of moments before doing just that... there seems to be nobody in here but
you and you feel yourself being drawn along the tunnel by an invisible force... drawn along the tunnel and fascinated
by a spiralling effect that you can't quite define... a trick of the light, maybe... or simply a trick of the mind....
A mist starts to form around you and soon you can't seen anything at all except a silver glow that you find somehow
relaxing and comforting for some unknown reason... and you realise that you seem to have lost all sense of time and
space...
[FOR ANALYSIS/REGRESSION] but it feels as though you are moving back through time... back through time as
if there were no such thing as time... all the way back... back to those early days of childhood... or even beyond if
that's what seems right to you... and you decide... [etc.]
[FOR SUGGESTION WORK] And you become aware that now, your mind is prepared and receptive to everything
I'm going to say to you... [etc.]
Use this for a tidy ending to the session
You decide that it's time to finish your trip through time and space now... time, too, to finish your visit to this
magical fairground... and at that very moment you find yourself in front of a control panel... the controls are already
set... set to (time, date)... and you know that all you have to do is push the large red button in the centre of the panel
to return to the here and now, to this time, this place, back to the here and now... and in your in time, I want you to
do just that, then count up to five in your thoughts... and when you get to five just open your eyes and be awake and
aware... and feeling good.

DOWN THRO' CONSCIOUSNESS - Terence Watts
I often use this as a preliminary to regression/analytical work, after a 'standard' induction. The 'secrets room'
can probably be used for recovering lost/hidden items, though I have never tried it.
And now you're so wonderfully relaxed, nobody wanting anything, nobody expecting anything, and absolutely
nothing whatsoever for you to do but to relax... I want you to imagine that you're just an observer of your own
mind... drifting slowly down through your levels of consciousness... in the upper level at first... the part that deals
with the hurly burly of every day life... where decisions have to be made and the full meaning of things has to be
considered and taken into account.... It's like the sale floor of a busy department store... crowded full with shoppers
and staff...
And you're just an observer, quietly, softly, drifting down... lower and lower... and lower... still in the subconscious
mind, not yet in the subconscious... down to the level where things are half heard, half remembered... partly
realised... the part where things are formed before they really begins to take shape... this is like a lower floor of that
same store... the floor, perhaps, where everything is unpacked and made ready for sale...
And you just carry on, drifting deeper and deeper down...lower and lower... down now into the upper reaches of the
subconscious... this is the part of your mind that colours your thoughts... that makes you like some things and dislike
others... the part where sudden ideas and inspirations spring from... sometimes catching you almost by surprise... the
floor where all that store's stock is kept.
And you just drift lower and lower... softly, gently, down and down... to the lower levels of your subconscious... as
far down as you can go... to the part of your mind that governs how you see the world... this is the floor that's the
most important of all... where accounts are kept and campaigns are decided... and judgements are made.
This is the part of your mind that controls how you feel... it's the birthplace of feelings like pride and anger...
pleasure and envy... happiness and pain... and all the other emotions that make you into the sort of person you are...
this is also where secret memories from a long time ago are stored... memories that are sometimes so secret that even
you have no conscious knowledge of them... but even without that conscious awareness, they can colour your
judgement and affect your feelings... sometimes benign... but often causing all sorts of problems...
Now I want you, if you will, to use your imagination even more powerfully... I want you to imagine yourself at the
end of a long corridor... sweeping away in front of you in a long gentle curve... so that you can't actually see the end
of it... but you know instinctively that it's completely empty... that there's nobody here but you... and as you move
along it, you see that there are doors set in the walls at intervals... doors to different parts of your mind... and
eventually... eventually... you find yourself outside a door with the legend: 'Secrets' inscribed boldly upon it... you
can see that it's locked, with a large key... and you realise that this is the room where your secret memories are
kept...
This is the room where your secret memories are kept... things that have been locked up here by your subconscious
mind because they once upset you in some way... things that hurt you... things perhaps that frightened you so badly
you simply couldn't bear it... and maybe some things that you simply found so uncomfortable you had to turn away
from them... they're all memories from a very long time ago... and they can't hurt you now... but your subconscious
doesn't know this... and it continues to take responsibility for protecting you from them... and that responsibility
weighs heavily in your subconscious... and because your subconscious governs how you feel from day to day... that
weight affects you consciously.
But these memories are nothing more than thoughts now... they can't hurt you any more...and your subconscious can
simply let them go... so you just turn the key in the lock and slightly open the door... just leaving it ajar... and you'll
find, over the next few days that you'll begin to recall some of these old memories from the past... some during
dreams... some while you're awake... some of them perhaps just popping into your head when you least expect it...
and for every memory you recall, you'll find yourself feeling just bit lighter, just that bit happier... just that bit more
able to get on with today's task of living....
----------------------------------------
TIME CAPSULE - Terence Watts
You can use this as a deepener, though it actually carries suggestions for decision making and enlightenment.
Use after any 'standard' preparation. It'll work particularly well for imaginative individuals.
And now I want you to imagine a shimmering, transparent capsule... a shimmering, transparent capsule suspended
by a silvery thread somewhere in a timeless place... it's been suspended there since before time began... in this secret
place where nobody ever goes... where nobody has ever yet been... and it's a strange thing that nobody knows who
put it there... and even stranger that nobody knows from where or whence it came... and as you gaze upon this
mystery, it begins to seem somehow familiar to you for some reason you don't quite understand... as if you've seen it
before somewhere... sometime... and then it gradually dawns on you that you know what it's for... even though you
don't know how you know... you just somehow realise that you can use the power of your mind to move inside it...
simply by using the power of your thoughts... to glide effortlessly into this place of total safety... where nothing can
harm you... where you are protected from everything... even protected from time itself...
While you are inside this magical capsule, nothing ever changes... because time simply stands still... so you can
actually move through time... moving back, back through the years as though there were no such thing as time...
moving back to times past... maybe even back to times before your own lifetime even began... or perhaps moving
forward through time... to a time yet to come, yet to be... simply by using the power of your mind... simply thinking
where you want to be... and you can see without being seen, hear without being heard... and you can feel what you
choose to feel when you observe these things... and all the time you are absolutely safe in this magical capsule... a
silvery capsule where you are protected from the world... and I can only wonder if you're going to find yourself
moving back to a time past, perhaps to make sense of something that that you didn't quite understand the first time
around... or if you're going to move forward to sense how your life might be in a little while... if you don't make a
change... or perhaps if you do make a change of some sort... maybe a specific change that you have perhaps already
been thinking about... just allowing your subconscious, that powerful subconscious of yours, to sense the outcome...
and of course, it's nobody's business but yours what you decide to do... where you decide to go... and maybe you'll
decide to stay just where you are and enjoy the feeling of relaxation and calmness... or perhaps allow yourself to
journey to some imaginary place... a place created by the creativity of your imagination... where there might be
castles and kings... or ancient walled cities high on a mountain, that nobody has seen for centuries... perhaps
mythical gilded palaces in some oriental land... gently sloping hillsides which lead to tranquil lakes or gently
flowing rivers... where there is just the merest whisper of a breeze... or deep and mysterious canyons, with waterfalls
thundering and roaring between glittering, multi-coloured walls of quartz and crystal... waterfalls that create
miniature rainbows that arch through the mist and spray, in the warm rays of a setting sun... waterfalls that you can
perhaps move behind to discover mystery worlds in the caves beyond... maybe a world where everything is exactly
as you want it to be to make it absolutely perfect... or perhaps you will find a world which is so different from the
one we live that it's almost too difficult to understand... and perhaps, too, there will be people there... kind people
who will help you to easily achieve your every goal, your every wish... or perhaps instead this world is a benign
place, where you can discover how to realise your own goals... a place that actually works with you to allow your
confidence to grow, day by day... a place where you feel you might almost move mountains if you needed to do so...
a place where you can easily learn skills, discover strengths and resources you were not previously aware of...
strengths and resources that can persist and remain and stay with you wherever you might find yourself... but of
course you might decide that you don't wish to travel anywhere in this magical capsule... deciding instead to search
for a truth... or an answer to a problem, perhaps... maybe searching deep, deep, inside yourself in this wonderful
relaxed state that we call hypnosis... searching inside yourself and becoming aware of resources that you already
have... strengths you already possess... and this could be an even more magical journey as you go deeper and deeper
now... allowing yourself to become aware of problems that you have solved successfully in the past... or maybe
problems for which there was no solution then... and you could realise that your subconscious mind, which simply
does not understand time... could still be trying to solve some of these problems from the past... realising in almost
the very same instant that it can simply cease to do so... because these things are from the past and can stay in the
past... because they are out of date now... and it's safe to simply leave them back there where they belong... and it
may be that you become aware that you need to forgive yourself... or somebody else perhaps... for things that
happened back there, back then... and you'll find that so easy to do, now... so that you can just consciously let go of
those things... so that they no longer absorb energies... now that your subconscious can accept that there is no longer
any need to solve these problems... no longer any need to be concerned with these difficulties... so that those
energies are now going to be available to you in your everyday life... and it could be that... while you're cocooned in
the safety of this magical capsule... that you'll find your mind drifting to a conflict with some other person at some
time in your life... maybe when you were just small.. or perhaps when you were not so small... but a conflict that
looks so different now... so much less important... now that you can observe it in safety and from a distance of
time... and I can only wonder where your mind has been drifting while I've been talking... or even if it has not drifted
anywhere at all, but simply considered the possibilities presented to you... and whatever has happened, or is
happening now... is absolutely the right thing for you... absolutely the right thing for your mind to do... and now I'd
like you to become aware of your presence inside that magical capsule... suspended in total safety in some secret
place by a silvery thread... become aware of new resources within you... and realise that at this very moment... you
are in more in touch with that all-knowing subconscious mind of yours than you have ever been before...

WEIGHT CONTROL - Terence Watts
There is a certain amount of confusional work in this script - don't attempt to 'clarify' it, because it is absolutely
intentional! It allows better communication with the subconscious process, since the conscious mind is kept too busy
to introduce counter-suggestion.
Your new found confidence in yourself is going to make it easier and easier for you to lose weight... as you begin to
recognise the great truth that taking control of your eating habits is to take control of yourself... and that being in
control of yourself allows you to be in control of your life... and being in control of your life makes it easy for you to
achieve whatever you want to achieve... it's only necessary to want to do something and know how to do it, in order
to be able to do it, and we can all decide to do whatever we want to do... we all have free choice... so that where it
has seemed in the past that there were things you could not do, you will begin to recognise that these things were
nothing more than things you would not do.... and now you recognise this, you can decide for yourself whether to do
those things or not... you can simply decide to do these things, or not to do these things... and as you exercise your
right of free choice to decide for yourself the things you want to do and the things you do not want to do, so your
sense of self worth, your self-respect grows day by day... day by day becoming stronger and more powerful... day by
day allowing you to be as you truly want to be... because you recognise fully now that whatever other people think
about you is a product of their own thoughts, their own lives, their attitudes... and sometimes you might be
misjudged, as we all are sometimes... but when others misjudge you, it's simply their own error of judgement, their
mistake, and whatever that mistake is, whatever they think they see, is based upon their lives, their attitudes, their
fears and worries and hopes.... nothing more than their own thoughts... and you're not responsible for those things...
and it doesn't alter the facts, it doesn't alter the real you... because you know your true worth, your true integrity...
and you don't mind people making mistakes sometimes... so that as you exercise your determination, your own free
will, to do the things that you know will... slowly but steadily help you to lose weight, you find your sense of self
worth increasing with every pound of body weight that you lose... because every pound of body weight that
disappears is evidence of your ability to take charge of your life, to take charge of yourself... and you're going to
find it easy to lose weight at a minimum of 1lb each and every week... most of the time, because your body is
efficient and you know exactly how to help it, you'll lose more than that... 3... 4... maybe even 5lbs a week, but
always, always, that absolute minimum of one pound each and every week...
And as you slowly but steadily lose weight, so you'll begin to find yourself increasingly delighted with the way you
look... beginning to regain that youthful figure and shape... just knowing inside yourself that you deserve to look
good, it's OK to look good, OK to be slim in all those places where you really want to be slim, should be slim,
deserve to be slim... because you recognise fully now that the way for you to feel really good about yourself is to be
in control of your life... in control of your eating habits... in control of yourself... in control... now and well on into
the future... so that you can easily achieve your target weight and size... the new eating habits that you're already
beginning to establish are going to make it easy for you achieve and maintain that target weight and size... and then
your sense of well being and self-worth, your feelings of self-respect, will be equalled only by your feelings of
energy, vitality and well-being.

HEALING BEFORE SURGERY
Preparing For A Hospital Surgical Procedure. .
By: Anne H. Spencer, Ph.D..
4110 Edgeland, Royal Oak, MI 48073-2285.
c. 1991.
Take a nice long slow deep breath in and slowly breath out.... We will take three of these breaths. Notice that on
each one you feel more and more relaxed... Now once again take a long slow, slow deep breath in...and out... Notice
how you are beginning to relax. Take another slow deep breath... in... and out... Notice how much more relaxed you
are... Again a long slow, slow deep breath and this time when you exhale, your eyes close naturally as you... relax
deeply.
Notice how much more relaxed you are now. Continue to breath normally and naturally. Let each and every breath
you take relax you more and more... Allow yourself to begin to go into dream time....
The sound of my voice is relaxing, relaxing is a pleasure as you drift deeper and. deeper into dream time. To help
you go even deeper into this quiet relaxed state, we will descend a staircase of relaxation. Imagine your self standing
on the top of the staircase of relaxation, wearing a loose fitting garment, made of a very fine fabric, it is your
favorite color. What color might that be today?...
As you descend you find yourself sinking deeper and deeper into the chair or bed that. you are resting on, feeling
more and more relaxed... With each step, you double your sense of relaxation. As you go through this exercise you
may have a sensation of heaviness, you may have a sensation of floating like a feather, of being light and airy or you
may just know that you are deeply relaxed... Whatever you experience is just right for you, you are doing fine.. .
Begin to descend now.
Ten -- floating deeper and deeper down...
Nine -- deeper
Eight -- letting go of all doubt, worry, anxiety. You don't need that any more...
Seven -- deeper and deeper relaxed
Six -- the longer it takes you to relax, the deeper you go...
Five -- we will pause here as it is time to call upon your spiritual guide who will be with you on this journey. It may
be God, an angel, a saint, or a feeling of a spiritual connection with the creative force. I will give you a time of
silence to make contact with your spiritual partner...(30 seconds). .You are doing fine... Step down now... to
Four -- relaxing and going deeper.
Three -- letting go, going deeper...
Two -- deeper and deeper...
One -- very deeply relaxed...
Now let yourself travel easily and effortlessly to a lake... Imagine it is summertime, there is a warm breeze, you can
hear the waves lapping at the shore as you gaze out over the lake. It is your lake of peace... The waves have a
rhythm, they calm and relax you. Listen as they begin to help you relax your body so that the anesthetic you will be
receiving for your surgical procedure is taken easily... In fact you need only a very small amount of anaesthetic,
because your body is cooperating so well. It is bending into the procedure... As a result very little anesthetic is being
used the entire time of the surgical procedure... You are in control of what's happening to your body. You have set
the processes into motion through your ability to relax on command, your command... The waves continue in their
rhythmic pattern. Every time you hear the phrase, "You are doing fine," all of your healing systems come together to
function in a normal healthy manner... They create complete recovery within and without... Relax, take a deep
breath...You are doing fine... Let yourself sink deeper and deeper into a peaceful relaxed state...Your mind begins to
drift... It is like a dream...
You begin rehearsing for your surgical procedure. It is safe and enjoyable to be this relaxed. Through the power of
your imagination you see yourself walking into the hospital You say to yourself, "This is where I am going to get
well....This is where my body is going to be repaired so it can get well....This is where I can go whenever I need to...
to help my doctor help me to wellness....I make the decisions for my well being... I have decided that this is a
surgical procedure that will bring my body to wellness... The surgeon and staff are here to help me... The word for
the day is cooperation...
We are a team,... we work together." As a result of these positive thoughts you can see, feel and know just how you
are entering the hospital. You walk with confidence, you speak with confidence and you smile with confidence and
pride... This is your decision.
I'll give you time to rehearse this scene...(30 seconds)
Good, you are doing fine. Notice how good you feel about being in control of your thoughts and feelings. Good, you
are doing fine... Each and every time you practice this, you become calmer and more relaxed... and this is so... What
we picture in the theater of our mind becomes our reality...You are now your own writer, actor, editor and producer.
Medical science has found that a person with a good attitude about the outcome of their surgery has a.100% better
chance of recovery than one who has a negative or pessimistic attitude...You are creating, through mind power, the
positive attitude needed to help you... to complete recovery. Congratulations! You are doing fine...
Now let the scene change to the room where the procedure is to take place... If you don't have a definite picture,
make one up. You are feeling relaxed and confident, want that to happen, let it happen. Notice how much more
relaxed you are... You are doing fine. This is your decision. The doctor is there to help you repair your body so that
you can have wellness and peace of mind... CO-operation is the word for the day... You relax even deeper as the
anesthetic is administered, and you only need a very small amount to get your body ready for the procedure, and this
is so...
You are doing fine. Once again, it is you who have made the decision to cooperate and as a result of the relaxation
your body only needs a very small amount of anesthetic to keep you at the perfect level for the procedure... You can
hear noises around you, but you pay no attention to them... The scene changes... back to the lake. You find yourself
on a lovely safe swing... It has a nice steady rhythm and you feel calm and relaxed as you look out onto your lake of
peace... Calm and relaxed.... Enjoying the scene that is before you. Feeling the rhythm of the swing, smelling the
aromas and scents of nature, enjoying the sun on the water and the seagulls sailing through the air... Calm and
relaxed... calm and relaxed... calm and relaxed... Your body cooperates with the skillful hands of the surgeon. It
opens up easily, it has only the exact amount of blood flow that is necessary to maintain perfect balance... In fact
your body knows exactly what to do, and it does it in perfect concert with the surgeon... All of your vital signs are in
perfect order; blood pressure perfect, heart rate perfect, breathing normal. You are enjoying your time at the lake,
calm... and relaxed... calm and relaxed. You are doing fine...
Interestingly enough, from the very moment that you decided to have this surgery done, your body began the healing
process... Your body knows just what to do in order to get you to wellness. All systems are go. The healing system is
in gear, the immune system is functioning perfectly, everything about you is cooperating with your medical team...
They are your medical team, and you are the captain. They are doing the work that is theirs to do, while your healing
system and immune system are doing their work... All of your blood cells are doing their job perfectly. In fact this is
the easiest surgical procedure that your medical team has ever done. The reason for this is that you are giving the
orders to your healing system to cooperate fully with your medical team.
I will give you a few moments to let these suggestions take complete effect upon you... (1 min)
Good you are doing fine... When it is time, when the procedure is complete... and not before, you find...The dream is
about over, soon you will come to full wakeful consciousness.. Notice how relaxed and comfortable you feel. You
have an appetite and can eat small amounts of food, easily and effortlessly. You find that you are thirsty and drink
water easily. Your bladder and bowel can work easily and effortlessly. All of your organs are functioning normally
and naturally. You feel wonderful, like you have had a magical summer nap!
You are doing fine...
There is an awareness that a procedure has taken place. You can feel a little pressure, but that is all. Any discomfort
is minimal and you are full of energy... You are in control and healing has begun and will continue.
You are well... It is now time to thank your spiritual partner for being with you on this important journey... I'll give
you time to do that now......(15 sec).
The following are positive suggestions that I would like you to mentally repeat after me:
Every day in every way I am getting better and better.. -
I am in control. I create my own reality.. -
Negative thoughts have no power over me, I am in control.. -
I create my own reality through the power of my mind, and this is so.. -
I persistently think and act in the direction of my good and my goal... to be a happy, healthy, relaxed person.. -
I am love. I am loving, loved and beloved.. -
I am healed by the Creative Force within me.. -
My body knows just how to keep me well and I pay close attention to its signals. I obey those signals, I relax, I let
go and stay well.. -
My body systems are cooperating with the surgical procedure, we are all working together to create healing.. -
My blood pressure is normal. My blood count is perfect.. -
My lungs breathe easily and effortlessly. . -
Every day in every way I am getting better and better....
When the time is right, just open your eyes feeling wonderful, knowing that you are in control of all that happens to
you. You do create your own reality. Today, your reality is that of a relaxed healthy human being, feeling balanced
in body, mind and spirit. And this is so!
If you are using this during the surgical procedure continue to stay at your lake of peace until you hear that it is time
to awaken... when the recovery room nurse is saying your name. Notice how good you feel and will continue to feel.
Your recovery happens quickly, easily and effortlessly, and this is so.. You are doing fine...
If you are listening to this in preparation for the procedure you may open your eyes now, knowing that you have
created a new reality for yourself, and this is so....
NOTE: Every time you say, "You are doing fine," insert the persons name. Let. your voice be expressive of the
wellness that is there for your client. You, through the power of your words, give hope and encouragement to this
person...Your voice is what has been there for them during this stressful event. You do make a difference. YOU ARE
DOING FINE !!!. When you change scenes, you may want to have your client use finger signals to let you know
when s/he has arrived.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONFIDENCE IN COMPANY
so...you will remain more relaxed... and calmer... whenever you are in the presence of other people... and it doesn't
matter whether it is a small group of people... or a large group... or whether they are friends or strangers....
you will now learn... to not have any fear of speaking in front of other people... you will always be able to express
yourself easily and confidently... and you will learn to speak eloquently and confidently... with intelligence and
humour when appropriate ... your conversations will flow easily....and you will enjoy talking to people.... about any
subject that arises... and now you will always be able to meet people on equal terms... without the slightest feelings
of inferiority... you will become... so deeply interested... so deeply absorbed in what you are saying... that you
become completely focused in the conversation... to the complete exclusion of everything else...
and so you always remain perfectly relaxed... perfectly calm and self confident... when you are speaking to other
people... whether it's to do with business or pleasure... whether its on a one to one... or to a group... and when your
with other people... you become much less conscious of yourself... and your own feelings... you will consequently
be able to talk quite freely and naturally... if you should begin to think of yourself....you will immediately shift your
attention back to your conversation ... and you will remain calm... confident... and self assured... at all times...
and because of this... you will find that you get on better with people... you gain their respect easily... because you
are a good listener... and you speak with intelligence and confidence ... and you like to laugh with people... as you
know its a wonderful way to communicate... and this makes you feel happy and content....knowing that you can
communicate easily with people from all walks of life... as you draw upon your experiences of life to make your
conversations interesting....
and as time goes by... you will find that you enjoy being around other people... as your skills of communication
grow more and more refined... and you draw opportunities towards you... as people respond to your likeable easy
going personality... and so as you grow more and more confident about your own abilities... when your in the
company of other people... you grow more confident about yourself... and develop an inner calm and strength... as
the days weeks and months go by....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EGO STRENGTHENER
You have now become so deeply relaxed.... so deeply asleep.... that your mind has become so sensitive.... so
receptive to everything I say.... that everything that I put into your mind.... will sink so deeply into the unconscious
part of your mind.... that it will have a very deep and lasting an impression.... and will become a part of your inner
realities....
Consequently.... these suggestions that I place into the unconscious part of your mind.... will begin to exercise a
greater and greater influence.... over the way you think.... over the way you feel.... and over the way you behave....
and because these suggestions will stay.... firmly embedded in the unconscious part of your mind.... they will
continue to exercise the same great influence.... in the weeks, months and years to come.... they will become more
and more a part of your inner realities.... as you continue to take positive steps into the future....
you are now so very deeply relaxed.... that everything that I tell you is going to happen.... will happen for your own
good.... exactly as I tell you....
and every feeling that I tell you will experience.... you will experience.... exactly as I tell you....
and these things will continue to happen to you every day.... and you will continue to experience these same feelings
every day.... more and more powerfully.... when your at home.... or at work or wherever you are....
during this deep sleep.... you are going to feel healthier and fitter in every way.... you will feel more alert and
experience a wonderful feeling of well being.... both mentally and physically..
and from now on you will have more energy.... more enthusiasm.... and feel more optimistic.... as you continue to
develop a more positive outlook on life....
everyday.... you will become so deeply interested and enthusiastic.... in whatever you are doing.... or whatever is
going on around you.... that you focus outwardly....
you no longer think about yourself so much.... and allow any problems to hold you back.... from now on you will see
any problem that arise as a challenge.... any difficulties you encounter as a test for you to overcome.... altogether you
will approach things with a much more positive attitude.... in every way....
everyday your nerves will become stronger and steadier.... your mind calmer and clearer.... you will feel more in
control of your feelings and emotions.... you will feel more composed.... more centred.... more at peace with
yourself.... and you will begin to develop an inner strength and calm.... and a self belief that you can achieve
anything you want to.... when you focus your mind
and you will be able to think more clearly.... concentrate more easily.... you will be able to give your whole
undivided attention to whatever you are doing.... to the complete exclusion of everything else....

PERMISSIVE QUIT-SMOKING SCRIPT Terence Watts
This is PART - a tiny part - of my 'Easy Quit-smoking Programme.'
This is ideal for use where rapport is less than you would like, or where your client is control-orientated. I tend to
use it on the rare occasions when somebody comes back after my usual quit-smoking session has not been
successful.
Read the last paragraph carefully and you'll begin to see why it works... if you're still not sure, then it's all to do
with something called 'embedded commands', a bit of 'reverse psychology' and the positive use of negatives... A
long induction and/or deeply hypnotised state is important here, after conscious motivational work. Pay attention
to the stressed words, but do not overdo it.
You know, deep inside yourself, that you are your own master, that nobody could ever control you, and that
therefore you can be whatever you want to be... you know that nobody controls you or your destiny, except you...
because you have free choice and can make your own decisions for yourself in your own time... and because of this,
you are going to decide for yourself when you want to become a non-smoker... you are going to decide for yourself
when to actually become a non-smoker... and it's nobody's business but yours when you decide this should be... and
I can't know when you'll make this decision... I can only wonder when it will be... whether it's today or tomorrow...
whether it's some time after that... or whether it's right now, right at this very moment, but privately and in your own
mind, as you just... relax... I cannot know when that decision will be made, but I do know that you will make that
decision for yourself... when the time is right for you to make that decision... and I do know that when you've made
that decision, then that natural tenacity of yours, that natural ability to stay with a decision you've made, is going to
make it easy, almost ridiculously easy in fact, to simply STOP the smoking habit for good.
When the time is right for you, whether that time is today, right now, or tomorrow, or some time after that, you're
going to find it so easy to make that decision to quite and even easier to stay with that decision... and you're going to
get a whole lot of pride and pleasure out the ease with you simply decide to do it - then simply do it... a huge
amount of real pride and pleasure when (inject some personal goal here, or say : "you are a genuine non-smoker.")
This is something you are going to decide for yourself, in your own time, when you want to do it... something you
will pursue single-mindedly so that you are completely indifferent to other peoples' opinions of your decision to quit
the habit, whatever those opinions might be... others will simply be unable to change your mind by whatever
methods the seek to use... because this is something you want for yourself and you are going to find that your
determination is utter and complete... and when you make that decision that you and you alone are going to make, to
become a non-smoker, you're going to just know... deep inside yourself... that you are going to find it easy... that you
can deal with what used to be a problem with absolute ease and control, so that something which you privately
thought might be difficult is going to turn out to be easy... ridiculously easy, in fact... so easy that you actually
become a source of inspiration to others.
It's not necessary for you to attempt to work out or guess when the moment is right for you to make your decision to
quit the smoking habit for good... you'll just suddenly know when the time is right to do it... and you will not even
try to do it before that time... because it's important that you do not... do it until you just KNOW that... the time is
now... and you will know when that time is right... and that moment can be at any time and may even have already
passed... and when... the time is now... you'll be a NATURAL NON-SMOKER from that very moment onwards.

FEAR OF WHAT OTHER PEOPLE MAY THINK - Terence Watts
This works well for those individuals who are excessively sensitive to the opinions and thoughts of others. Use after
a long induction, as part of a general confidence and ego boosting session.
... from this day on, you're going to find your confidence within yourself, your confidence in your abilities and your
self belief, becoming steadily stronger... stronger than yesterday... but not as strong as tomorrow... stronger than it
was yesterday... but not yet as strong as it will be tomorrow... you're going to find yourself far less concerned about
other peoples' opinions of you, too... you'll find you gain a clearer perspective and a better sense of proportion...
beginning to recognise and understand.... that whatever other people think or feel is their concern... part of their
lives... part of their attitudes... in the past, you might have been sometimes unfairly judged, as we all have been at
some time or another... and in the future, too, you might sometimes be misjudged, as we all are... but that
misjudgement doesn't actually change anything... it doesn't alter the facts... it doesn't change the real you... if
someone misjudges you at some time, that's simply their own error... their own error of judgement... they've simply
made a mistake... and you don't mind allowing people to make mistakes... you don't mind people being wrong
sometimes.... because you know what's inside yourself... you understand your true integrity your true self... what
others imagine they see is simply the product of their own experiences of life... their own attitudes... their own fears
and expectations... just their own thoughts... just their thoughts and nothing more than their thoughts... and you're
not responsible for any of those things at all... and it's worth remembering that nothing that we see or hear, or
imagine that we see or hear, can change us... nothing that we perceive in the outside world can hurt us... nor alter
us... only acting upon those things can do that... nothing that we see or hear can hurt us or change us... even what I'm
saying to you here cannot change you... only reacting to these things can do that... only acting upon the things we
see and hear can change us... and we have free choice to decide whether or not to act upon these things... and
thinking about things is acting upon them... but we have free choice to decide which things to act upon, which things
to react to... and which things to ignore... and the things that you choose to ignore will be a matter of complete
indifference to you... the things that you choose to ignore will always remain a matter of complete indifference....
Repeat at least once.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
GUILT RELEASE - Terence Watts
This should be used only when there is a genuine cause for the guilty feelings. It should not be used when there is a
misinterpretation of events, i.e. when it is obvious that no guilty feelings are deserved or when the guilt is otherwise
unwarranted (rape, abuse, finding a new partner after the death of a spouse, etc.). Under those circumstances, it
could have an adverse effect. Use as part of an ego/confidence reinforcement session.
And you're going to find yourself easily able to forgive yourself for things your feel you may have done wrong in
the past... whether those wrongs are real or imaginary... and whether they are in your conscious mind or buried
within the subconscious... you're going to find yourself easily able to let go of any guilt feelings associated with
these things... because you are a normal human being with normal emotions and normal drives, you're sometimes
prone to make normal human errors, as we all do... but those errors, those human mistakes, are in the past now... and
we cannot and should not attempt to rewrite history... because everything that happens to us is part of what makes us
human... and the very fact that we are able to feel guilt tells us that we are human... tells us that that we are a caring
person... because if we felt no guilt, then that would mean that we did not care... and it is only the person who does
not care that should feel guilt... and yet it is only the person who cares. Who genuinely cares, that does fell guilt... so
now it's time for you to be just a little kinder to yourself... to accept that the guilt you have been feeling is the
subconscious mind's way of letting you punish yourself for things you feel you may have done wrong... but there is
always a limit to the amount of punishment that is needed for any wrong doing... every caring person knows that...
and when that limit has been reached, there is no just need or cause for that punishment to continue... and a caring
person finds it easy to forgive people their mistakes... so you can now forgive yourself... just as you would forgive
others for their errors, their mistakes... because those things you feel you may have done wrong were errors... just
mistakes... so there is no need now for your for further punishment... most of the time, nearly all of the time, you
don't make these errors... nearly all the time, you do the right thing... and you have always tried to do what you
believed was the right thing to do... and because of this, you're going to find it easy to forgive yourself, right now,
right this minute... you're going to find yourself easily able to let go of any guilt feelings associated with these things
that you feel you may have done wrong... whether those feelings are in the conscious mind or buried within the
depths of the subconscious... it's all right to let go of those feelings of guilt... and to accept that you are a whole,
complete, and worthwhile person...

ARTHRITIC AND OTHER PAIN - Terence Watts
This is far from being the only effective way to deal with joint and limb pain - it is just a method which I have found
to be useful on a good few occasions. Before using ANY method of pain control/relief via hypnosis/hypnotherapy,
you should ensure that your client has had all relevant medical tests and checks. I insist on a letter from the GP,
confirming that in his/her opinion, it is acceptable for the condition to be assisted by hypnotherapy.
Use any good induction and deepener, preferably suited to the client's personality type. Then:
... all right, now you're lying there so relaxed, I want you just to think for a few moments about that pain... just let
you mind observe it in a detached sort of way... so that it causes little discomfort... far less discomfort than you are
actually used to, in fact... and I wonder if you can now put a colour to that pain? Just tell me what colour that pain
would be, if it were to have a colour...
Wait for client response. Prompt if necessary: "Is it maybe a sort of red colour? Pain is often a sort of red colour... or
maybe it's a bright yellow... many of my clients have told me that it's a bright yellow colour..." (The 'many of my
clients' statement is subconsciously reassuring to your client)
... good, well done... so it's a sort of . . . . . . . . . colour.... I'll bet you never thought of that pain as having a colour
before... now, here's something similar for you to think about... I want you to imagine what sort of colour would be
there, if there wasn't any pain... just let your mind think about that for a moment or two... what sort of colour might
be there is there was no pain, just comfort... just comfort where the pain used to be... what sort of colour is that...
where the pain used to be...?"
Wait for response. Prompt if necessary: "Could it be a sort of green, perhaps? Or maybe more like a blue. A lot of
people see their comfort colour as a sort of blue colour... but perhaps you have your own healing colour...."
...good... you're really clever at putting colours to feelings, aren't you? I bet you didn't know you could do that before
today... now, what sort of colour would we get if we mixed your pain colour with your comfort colour? (assist if
necessary) Right. So if we manage to get some of your pain dissolving into that healing colour, we should get . . . . .
. . right?
Wait for response.
Ok, I'll tell you what we're going to do...
Here, you have to use your own skills to decide what's best. A lotion or gel that can be repeatedly applied, a 'special'
bowl or bath where 'healing fluid' can pour from the taps, a tub of healing balm, a big tube of penetrating ointment...
whatever will work best for the particular client. I frequently ask how they would prefer their 'healing compound' to
be - this is very effective, since it is their own imagination we are having to work with. The example of a tub that I
have used here is effective for many things.
So we have a huge tub of that healing gel... and don't worry, because there's plenty more if we need it... but just for
the moment, I want you to imagine plunging you hand into that tub of gel and taking a really big handful of it... can
you feel that in your hand? Is it warm or cool?... good... now, in your mind, just rub that gel gently into (affected
area)... can you see it changing colour? It's changing to (whatever colour has been decided), right?... now, you can
feel the pain steadily diminishing... ok, that's good... now, in your mind, just rinse that gel away with cool clear
water... just rinsing away the pain that used to be in your body... doesn't that feel good!... right, now let's do all that
again... just grab another handful of that gel and gently rub it into (affected area)... now, what's happening this time?
The colour is changing far more slowly, right? That's because there is far less pain there now to change the colour...
and next time, I bet, the colour will hardly change at all...
Repeat the process as necessary. Eventually your client should report that there seems to be no pain left - or that any
pain left is so diminished that it's of no great consequence. Where there is resistance and the client insists that the
pain is not diminishing at all, then you need to search out the hidden agenda/secondary gain that is definitely in
operation.
Good, you did that beautifully, really well... isn't the power of the subconscious amazing, once you learn how to
communicate with it? Now, you will be able to do that whenever you need to... just relax yourself as much as you
can (teaching self-hypnosis is almost an essential here) then do exactly the same thing that we've done today... and
do you know, each time you do that, the benefit will last even longer!
All right, now it's time to bring the session to an end, just knowing that tub of healing gel is always there for you,
whenever you need it....
END SESSION.
It's sometimes beneficial to give the 'healing fluid/balm/gel' some analgesic quality, or a special ingredient that
changes the quality of the pain to one that is perfectly tolerable. Use whatever your client gives you to work with; if
you use the product of their imagination as much of the time as you can, there will be greater benefit.
I sometimes even ask my client what sort of treatment they wished existed - in other words, to invent their own
'miracle cure'. In this way, you will tap into their inner resources - often more effective for them than yours might
be. If necessary, attempt to guide them toward external treatments, otherwise the colour change principle is more
difficult to employ.

SLEEPEASY - Terence Watts
I have used this in two distinctly separate ways; after an induction, as a deepener to be remembered later, and as
straightforward advice (when I abbreviate it a little and give just an outline) for those who have consulted with other
problems but who are having difficulty with sleep. I have not attempted to use it any time as a 'cure' for any form of
sleep disorder. It is probably not totally original, though I have not consciously seen it anywhere.
Now I'd like you to imagine yourself on the top floor of a busy department store... at Christmas time... Christmas
eve, in fact, with shoppers bustling everywhere, tills ringing, flustered counter assistants looking harassed and hot...
there's noise and hassle and everybody's pushing everybody else... and patience is becoming strained as whole
families rush about searching for those last-minute gifts that they had forgotten all about 'til now... and this is all too
much for you and you decide to go down to the next floor, via the escalator... and even the escalator is busy, loaded
up to almost maximum capacity... but when you get down to the next floor... you actually sigh with relief because
it's only half as busy as the floor above... only half as busy as the floor above... and it's maybe the cosmetics
department, because there are women having makeovers and still people trying to buy last-minute gifts... worried
young men sniffing at perfume bottles... older men looking at price labels... and it's still too busy for you, so once
again you decide to take the escalator down to the next floor... and this time the escalator is only half as busy... and
the next floor down is only half as busy as the one above... the whole atmosphere is decidedly calmer and more
easygoing... and this is the floor where they sell luggage and all sorts of things connected with holidays... and even
though everything feels so much calmer here, you decide to see how things are on a lower floor still... taking to the
escalator once again and being pleasantly surprised to discover that there's hardly anybody else on it at all... and
when you step out onto the salesfloor this time, you see that it's the furniture department... sofas and chairs, tables
and cupboards, bookshelves and display cabinets... furniture of almost all descriptions... and it's quiet and cool down
here, hardly anybody around... and those that are here are just moving around quietly, gazing at things for a few
moments before moving on... and you notice that the escalator has nobody on it at all... and you move towards it and
soon find yourself being transported gently down and down and down... with this wonderful relaxed feeling... and as
you step of at the bottom, you're interested to notice that you're in the bedding department now and there's not
another soul around... just you... and in the peace and quiet of this place, you stroll casually to the largest most
comfortable bed you have ever seen in your entire life... and just flop yourself lazily onto it... marvelling at the sense
of deep comfort that you suddenly experience... a deep comfort that seems to fill every pore of your entire body...
relaxing you... calming you... lulling you into a deep and relaxing sleep... a deep, sound, beautiful sleep... and as you
sleep, you have a dream... you dream that you're on the top floor of a busy department store... at Christmas time...
Christmas eve, in fact...

PREPARATION.- Terence Watts
A short preparation script to use to relax your client and settle them down before you start the induction proper.
All right, you just make yourself comfortable and close your eyes now... just separate your hands and let them lie
loosely in your lap... or by your sides if that's more comfortable... it's better if your legs are uncrossed... but it doesn't
matter if you feel you need to move just slightly, now and again... you don't have to be absolutely still... just be
comfortable and relax the whole body as much as you can... now I want you to take a deep breath and hold it for a
moment before breathing out slowly... just allowing your whole body to relax as you do so... and I want you to keep
your eyes closed now and just keep listening quietly to the sound of my voice... you'll be aware of those other
sounds, too... sounds inside the building, sounds from outside, maybe passing traffic... but these won't disturb you...
in fact, they'll help to relax you, because just for now the world outside is absolutely unimportant to you... the only
sound you're interested in is the sound of my voice... and while you're listening to the sound of my voice, I want you
to concentrate for a moment on your breathing... breathing slowly and steadily and evenly, just as if you were trying
to convince somebody that you were absolutely sound asleep... and as you breathe out each time, just allowing your
whole body to relax more and more... so that you gradually find yourself feeling as if your whole body was sinking
further and further into the chair with each breath you breathe...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE 'SWISH' TECHNIQUE
The Swish technique is not truly to do with hypnosis, though I have used it with many clients in that way. It is a
very powerful technique for self-improvement
The swish technique is from a branch of psychology known as NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and is used for
a great many purposes by successful people all over the World. It is particularly suitable to help you deal with 'one-
off' situations where you need a confidence boost, although there are many other times when it may be useful.
To use it successfully, you need to be in a comfortable place where you will not be disturbed. It's better if you are
wide awake - you will have your eyes closed and it is easy to fall asleep during this technique because of its
somewhat repetitive nature.
Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes. Steady your breathing and relax your body as much as you can for a
minute or two; play some favourite music if you find this helps. Now create, in your mind's eye, an image of you
just at the moment of having to deal with the anxiety-causing situation. It must be as vivid and sharp as you can
make it, filling your whole vision, the colours bright and alive, with you looking just as uncomfortable as you can
possibly imagine. Make it seem like an enormous colour slide being projected in your mind, and include anything
that will make it more lifelike; other people around you, their expressions, the scenery, sounds, smell, touch, etc. -
anything. When you have that picture vivid enough that it actually makes you squirm, then you've got it right. We
will call that picture the 'moment of anxiety'. Giving it a name makes it easy for you to recall later on, but for now,
'lay it to one side' in your mind.
Now for something more comfortable. This time you are going to create an image of you just at the moment when
you have SUCCESSFULLY dealt with the problem in hand. Again make it as vivid as is humanly possible and do
the same 'tricks' as before to make it truly lifelike. We will call this one the 'moment of achievement.' In it, you
should be looking absolutely as if you truly have just been incredibly successful with the specific circumstance.
When you get it right, when it makes you feel good, allow yourself to enjoy it for a moment, then imagine it
shrinking, becoming smaller and smaller, with the colours becoming less and less pronounced, until you are left
with a small black-and-white picture the size of a postage stamp. Then 'lay it to one side', just as you did the first
one.
Now:
1. Pick up the 'moment of anxiety' picture, and make sure it fills your entire vision, just as sharp, just as lifelike, just
as 'squirm-making' as it was before, but with an important addition. The small, black-and-white 'moment of
achievement' picture is tucked into the bottom left-hand corner.
2. When you have that image clearly in your mind, just say to yourself:
'S-W-I-S-H', at the same time changing the pictures over in your mind so that the 'moment of achievement' becomes
the large colour picture and the 'moment of anxiety' shrinks to the size of a postage stamp tucked into the bottom
left-hand corner, becoming black-and-white as it does so.
3. Enjoy it for just a few moments.
4. Let your mind drift to some neutral place. This can be anywhere you like - a room in your house, the park, a
deserted beach, anywhere, as long as it's a place where you are comfortable and at ease. It's very important that you
perform this switch to a neutral place each time.
Now start again at step one and continue to repeat the sequence. After a while, you will find that the pictures change
over so easily and so rapidly that you scarcely have any time to see the 'moment of anxiety' before it is replaced with
the 'moment of achievement'. This can take as few as three or four attempts and should be repeated every day until
the pictures change instantly right from the start, or you find that you simply cannot produce the moment of anxiety
picture at all.
When that happens, you have programmed yourself for success, rather than failure. You will find that when you
actually get to the event you have been working on, you will feel confident and easy, and able to give of your best as
a result. It might all sound rather complicated at first, but you soon get used to it and it is worth persevering with. It
is one of the most powerful 'quick-fix' methods in existence.
For an example, we will use driving test fear. The moment of anxiety would be, perhaps, sitting in the car; looking
very anxious, perhaps having trouble with the seat belt, the examiner looking stern. The feeling of 'nerves' could be
included, too. The moment of achievement could be: tearing up the 'L' plates, big smile on the face, congratulations
from the examiner, a feeling of excitement and jubilation. Maybe even a congratulatory pat on the back from a
friend. In these images, anything goes, as long as they give you absolutely the right feeling, both the anxiety and the
jubilation. The neutral place could be simply relaxing in front of the television.
The 'swish' technique can help you to excel in exams and other test situations; public speaking; sports performance;
other games performance like snooker, darts, bowls, etc. and can even help you cope with such things as anxiety,
depression and phobias/fears. It can, in fact, help you deal with anything where you can create those two pictures.

THE MAGIC FAIRGROUND - Terence Watts
CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
The comments in red italics show the thought processes behind each stage of the script. If you've never tried writing
your own, then studying this section will help you to understand how to create a successful induction/deepener.
I wonder if you can imagine, just a for a moment or two, that you're walking along next to a park on a warm Autumn
evening... the edge of the footpath is lined with those old-fashioned green railings, stretching away in front of you in
a gentle curve, so that you can't see where they finish... but you know that they lead all the way down to the park
gate... inside the railings there's a tall hedge... too tall for you to see over... but from the other side of it you can hear
the sounds of a funfair... and you can hear the sounds of people, too, carefree people, having fun and enjoying
themselves.
This grabs attention straight away because of its pleasant connotations of warmth and light-heartedness. It also
creates some easy imagery which will work with just about everybody and anybody, since it is not purely visual.
Park railings are familiar objects to focus on and the fact that they stretch away from you down to the park gate
creates anticipation.
More scene setting to capture and entrain thought, as well as a suggestion to happily put the cares of the real world
on hold for the time being, to temporarily shelve problems. This obviously allows us a better chance of working
effectively.
The main thing here is the metaphor of someone escaping his problems and being applauded for doing so; we are
reminding the client how good this feels when we say: 'raises his arms above his head in triumphant freedom.'
Now we are starting to bring other senses, besides visual, to bear - taste, smell, sounds - in order to deepen the state
further
You find yourself gazing at the entrance to the helter-skelter and a long-forgotten urge assails you suddenly... you
hurry to the door at the base of what now seems like the tallest tower you have ever seen... and then you're moving
up the wooden spiral staircase... your feet sounding hollow on the boards... your hand sliding easily along the
handrail that's been so well polished by the hands of thousands of people before you as you go on up and up... round
and round... until you're out in the open again, clutching a small mat at the top of the slide spiralling away in front of
you....
Bringing the sense of touch into play now, while still stimulating the visual and auditory senses. The spiral staircase
leading upwards creates a feeling of upliftedness, and the exit at the top of the slide is another stimulus to the
anticipatory sense which will strengthen concentration.
Disorientation and more expectation - what happens now? Also, here, we have begun to stimulate body awareness.
By now, the clients concentration should be almost total.
The slightly surreal feel to this helps to lower the conscious critical faculty - an essential state for hypnosis. It is also
a metaphor for the fact that your imagination can play strange tricks, that things are not always as they seem..
More anticipation and deepening of concentration, as well as leading to further suspension of the conscious critical
faculty.
Concentration, again.
[FOR ANALYSIS/REGRESSION] It's you, in a scene from your childhood, a scene from your childhood being
enacted in front of your eyes, just as it happened so many years ago...
Preliminary regression to childhood times.
[FOR SUGGESTION WORK] It's you, looking just as you would like to look... [etc.]
Preliminary suggestion work goes here, to create an expectation of change.
The scene fades, and you wait for a moment or two, hoping against hope that it'll return... but the crystal ball
remains dark and since there seems to be no sign of the fortune teller, you leave the tent and wander on your way...
Another 'What happens now?' effect to work on continued concentration.
Another scene to help suspend the conscious critical faculty, also more sensory stimulation with a suggestion of
inevitability of events and vividness of recall.
Triggering exploration of self, looking at different images and aspects, and contemplating the fact that you might
have once been different to how you can remember.
This, obviously, suggests the ability to recall when the time is right to do so.
[FOR SUGGESTION WORK] Then suddenly, you find yourself gazing at an image of you that is just as you want
to be, the you that you begin to realise you will be, when... [etc.]
Any suggestions for ultimate success can be given here.
And then you move on through this mirror maze... thoughtful at first but then grinning at what seems to be a
hundred images of you as you try to find the exit route...
'Grinning at a hundred images of you' is a reinforcement to feelings of well-being.
More conscious critical faculty work here, by making a side-step away from all reality seem quite logical, plus a
suggestion that you are being inexorably drawn along through time and fascinated by the process.
A mist starts to form around you and soon you can't seen anything at all except a silver glow that you find somehow
relaxing and comforting for some unknown reason... and you realise that you seem to have lost all sense of time and
space...
Isolation from the real world and suggestion that time and space, which of course, equals 'time and place' is no
longer specifically relevant... you are allowed to be anywhere.
[etc.]
--------------------------------------------
Ending, if required:
You decide that it's time to finish your trip through time and space now... time, too, to finish your visit to this
magical fairground... and at that very moment you find yourself in front of a control panel... the controls are already
set... set to (time, date)... and you know that all you have to do is push the large red button in the centre of the panel
to return to the here and now, to this time, this place, back to the here and now... and in your in time, I want you to
do just that, then count up to five in your thoughts... and when you get to five just open your eyes and be awake and
aware... and feeling good.

FORGETTING - Michael McKee
This nicely done confusional-type script by Michael McKee can have many uses...
But you can remember that sometimes you see things and sometimes you miss them don't you. And you can think of
a time when you were looking for something in plain sight and looked and looked and when you came back later
there it was all along. And isn't it interesting to note that the unconscious mind can choose just what to notice and
what not to notice. There is a story of Milton Erickson who once went into a factory and noticed that the workers
there could talk to each other and understand each other but that he couldn't hear a word they were saying because of
the loud background noise of the factory. He realized the unconscious mind can choose to not notice certain things.
And there is another story of the town of Niagra Falls which was right next to the famous waterfalls. One morning
the residents of the town all ran to each other and asked what was that loud noise. It took an outsider to remind them
what silence sounded like... they had acquired the ability to totally tune out the noise of the falls and when the river
was diverted to the falls could be reinforced because they were collapsing they hadn't made the transition to hearing
without the background noise.
Now it is interesting that those people could go other places and find the lack of background noise quite natural but
in their lives the unconscious mind had learned to simply tune out the noise of the falls.
And isn't it interesting to speculate just how your unconscious mind can manage to undergo the experience of not
noticing to notice things? Take for example the color blue. It can be true blue but it can also be an emotional state.
And I don't know just how exactly your unconscious mind can make the switch to thinking of blue as only the
feeling. That's right. There are many colors and for the next while your unconscious mind can forget to remember
that feeling color and forget to even remember the name for that color that you don't need to notice. And you can
notice many things. You can notice the color of the grass or the color of the tea you had back then for breakfast but
isn't it easy to forget to remember that you don't need to even notice that particular color. You might even be
surprised that others notice some things that you don't but that is only natural. You are trained to notice some things
that others notice so it is very easy to let others notice some colorful things that you simply don't notice. And you
can not notice so easily....
For some things are here and some other things are over there and some other things are off color but we don't need
to make jokes just yet. So letting the off color be off the other end of the spectrum of consciousness you can think of
innuendo and maybe even make jokes of a different kind but some things are simply easier to not take notice of like
the speck of mascara on the old lady's face that belongs only around her eyes or the bad joke that are so easy to
forget that you might as well have not noticed in the first place.

INDUCTION IDEA
Terence Watts
I thought I'd just give you the 'bare bones' of an induction that I use fairly regularly in my consulting room. It seems
to work well with almost everybody, and especially so with the analytical personality. The professionals amongst
you will easily be able to 'fill out' this skeletal idea effectively; if you're new, or fairly new, then it probably would
not be a particularly good idea to experiment with this until you have plenty of experience - which is one of the
reasons that a complete script is not given. There are many scripts that are more suitable for you elsewhere on my
site. Go there now.
Note that it can actually produce the so-called 'Coma' or 'Esdaile State' quite easily in some clients, though it will
certainly not do this every time. To rouse your client from the 'Coma' state, simply tell them, quietly, that if they do
not 'come up from where you are' when you reach the count of 10, they will never be able to reach this delightful
state again...and they will do as you ask!
After a suitable preamble and settling down phase, continue with:
"Now I want you to imagine yourself going into a sort of suspended animation... a state of suspended animation in
some warm, comfortable, safe place, where it's safe to just let your body just be... so that it's ok if you begin to lose
touch... suspended, floating, drifting..."
Follow this up with more of the same, and suggestions for 'losing touch' with physical sensation, etc. Then:
"... so that you can soon begin to notice a wonderful sensation where it seems to you that you are just your
thoughts... your energies... your actual spirit... a wonderful place where you know you are more in touch with your
real self than ever before..."
More of this sort of thing, observing for increasing hypnotic phenomenae. Then:
"... and every time I say the word 'down' you will find yourself drifting deeper and deeper... down... becoming twice
as relaxed as you were before... twice as relaxed as you were... whenever I say that word... down... and you just
allowing yourself to drift in this warm and comfortable, safe place, where you are just your energies, just your
spirit... drifting deeper and deeper... down..."
etc.
I've used this method with a lot of clients now and have found it to be almost universally effective. The 'Coma' state
is characterised by the disappearance of the hypnotic flush into a pallor and very slow respiration/pulse.
Catatonia/catalepsy sometimes shows itself as well, though this state is not necessary for normal consulting room
work and I don't usually make any effort to take a client that deep. This induction method seems to be particularly
useful when working with stress-related issues.
------------------------------------------------------
COMPOUNDING
This is not a new technique, but it is astonishingly effective and has all sorts of applications where you may be using
straightforward suggestion work, for yourself or others. It has an advantage that it can work with or without a
consulting room environment and with or without hypnosis.
To use it effectively, you would take just ONE suggestion... we'll look at quitting smoking as an example, since that
always seems to arouse a lot of interest! The suggestion is:
You are now a non-smoker and will remain so for the rest of your life.
Now take a 30 second continuous loop tape (as used in some telephone answering machines) and record the
suggestion 3 or four times.
Now you can have it playing quietly in the background throughout the hypnosis part of your session - that's a very
effective way of using it for your clients. The volume should be such that your client can hear it if s/he listens for it,
but soon 'loses' it beneath your voice when you start using the script proper. This is an effective form of subliminal
programming. (I am not saying, by the way, that the suggestion offered here is more effective than any other. Use
what feels good to you, of course)
Alternatively, for self use, have it playing in the background quietly enough so that you 'lose' it from conscious
hearing after a short while. This method is best for confidence and/or self esteem building.
As I have said, the idea of compounding is not new, by any means. But it is, in my opinion, underused.
