Alcoholism, Cigarettes & ANY other Addiction(s)
I am living proof… that …YOU CAN OVERCOME ANY ADDICTION WITH CHRIST ON YOUR SIDE!
Note: Read the following scriptures to give you encouragement and strength. Read them out loud,
plant them deep into your heart… word for word if that’s what it takes to remind you of the power of
our Lord! He will give you the strength to overcome your addiction… the first thing you need to do is
take that step of faith, believe Jesus and trusting Him with your addiction. Cry out to Him…repent
with an honest heart, He will deliver you.
Some people have a hard time understanding the King James Version, so I have also add the NLT (New
Living Translation) verses below. IF you would like any of the following verses in other translations, I
would suggest logging onto www.bible.cc and looking up these scriptures… it has ALL bible translations!
God Bless
Philippians 4:6 (KJV)
Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
be made known unto God.
(NLT) Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank
him for all he has done.
Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
(NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
James 4:7 (KJV)
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
(NLT) So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
1 John 4:4 (KJV)
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that
is in the world.
(NLT) But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people,
because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
Galatians 5:24 (KJV)
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
(NLT) Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his
cross and crucified them there.
Philippians 4:8-9 (KJV)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there
be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both
learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
(NLT) And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and
honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and
worthy of praise.
Galatians 5:1 (KJV)
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with
the yoke of bondage.
(NLT) So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up again in
slavery to the law.
Galatians 5:16-17 (KJV)
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against
the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot
do the things that ye would.
(NLT) So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature
craves.
James 5:16 (KJV)
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual
fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
(NLT) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest
prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
Romans 8:2 (KJV)
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
(NLT) And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of
sin that leads to death.
Colossians 3:1-3 (KJV)
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand
of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is
hid with Christ in God.
(NLT) Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven,
where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the
things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
It’s not easy to get through a battle, but JESUS will meet you in the battle and carry the burden if you do
your part by taking that step of Faith. Give your addiction(s) over to Jesus. You may now be asking me,
“How do I do that?” By praying for strength, taking yourself out of situations to where you would be
tempted (bars, parties etc,.), not hanging out with those who do drink (ask the Lord to bring believer
friends into your life), stay active… don’t sit around and get bored, when you have an urge to drink..
pray and again do something active.. Read the bible, watch Christian related tv, movies, praise music
and anything Christ-related to get your mind off alcohol. Your body will take some time to adjust to the
new changes, you may experience trembling or “the shakes”, your body might feel “thirsty”… so drink
lots of water and juices. Your body will experience aches, pains, fatigue and you may find yourself very
irritated for the first week. This is your body reacting, it’s craving for alcohol, but you can beat it!! PRAY
PRAY PRAY!! Never stop praying and trusting in Jesus to get you through this battle. Before you know it,
you will be alcohol free and feeling much healthier... your skin will start to look better as well!! Not only
will you have your life back, but Jesus will give you a NEW life, and new strength and more faith to
overcome battles in different areas of your life in the future! You will look back and be reminded of how
JESUS gave you strength and you will be reminded of the victory every time you face a battle. People
around you will start to notice the changes in your life and you will have the opportunity to share what
the Lord has done for you with others who may also need help. No addiction is too big for God.
If you are a smoker, I would suggest giving up a cigarette a day for a week, do it for the Lord. Then
before you know it, you will be down to 3 cigarettes a day (for the average smoker.. I was smoking 10-12
a day). Continue to pray and ask the Holy Spirit for strength and then you will be down to 1 a day.
Remember to be watchful of your surroundings... before you get an urge to stop what you are doing to
smoke, ask yourself if you really want to be interrupted to go out for that smoke. You will realize that
smoking will not be a priority as it once was. IF YOU KEEP ON PRAYING… asking the Lord to REPLACE that
desire with HIS desire, then you will not have the desire to smoke. Every time you smoke, you will hear
the devil telling you how “good it is”, but Jesus will be right there holding your hand... and he will
remind you that through Him, you can do ALL THINGS…including throwing down that cigarette and
trusting in the Lord. Don’t plan a day to quit… that never worked for me.. I just ended up failing and
would feel horrible about myself (exactly the devils plan). Be patient and wait on the Lord. He knows
when your last cigarette will be. You just keep on trusting Him, He will get you through it! The first 3
days will be the worst. Remember, when you are past those 3 days… you are past the mountain… and
it’s all on your faith from there. Your body will no longer crave it, only your mind and the devil planting
lies in your mind will get you to fall and smoke. Your body no longer craves a cigarette after 3 days.
Hang in there, pray when you are irritable. PRAY PRAY PRAY!! Print this and the scriptures out for
encouragement!! Jesus Loves You!!
Contact me and I will pray for you. Jackie@ignite4christ.com or youtube.com/jacki79
You don’t need to fight this alone, seek out your Christian brothers and sisters… Jesus will get you
through this. All you need to do… is repent, and trust Him.

What is Alcoholism?
Alcoholism is characterized by an increased tolerance of and physical dependence on alcohol, affecting
an individual's ability to control alcohol consumption safely. Alcoholism can have adverse effects on
physical and mental health, depression, insomnia, increased risk of suicide and social affects.
Physical Symptoms
Long term alcohol abuse can cause anxiety, panic disorder, liver disease, heart disease, nutritional
deficiencies, sexual dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, cancer, damage to the central nervous system
and can eventually be fatal. Long Term Complications include, brain, heart, liver damage, negative
effects on reproductive functioning, and an increased risk of breast cancer in women among many other
complications.
The co-occurrence of major depressive disorder and alcoholism is well documented. Additional use of
other drugs may increase the risk of depression. With repeated heavy consumption of alcohol one will
result in tolerance and physical dependence.
Alcohol abuse is associated with an increased risk of committing criminal offences, including child abuse,
domestic violence, rape, burglary and assault. Alcoholism is associated with loss of employment, which
can lead to financial problems. Drinking at inappropriate times, and behavior caused by reduced
judgment, can lead to legal consequences, such as criminal charges for drunk driving. An alcoholic's
behavior and mental impairment, while drunk, can profoundly impact those surrounding them and lead
to isolation from family and friends. This isolation can lead to marital conflict and divorce, or contribute
to domestic violence. Alcoholism can also lead to child neglect, with subsequent lasting damage to the
emotional development of the alcoholic's children.
The “Cage” questionnaire is one such example that may be used to screen patients quickly in a doctor's
office.
Two "yes" responses indicate that the respondent should be investigated further. The questionnaire
asks the following questions:
1. Have you ever felt you needed to cut down on your drinking?
2. Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
3. Have you ever felt guilty about drinking?
4. Have you ever felt you needed a drink first thing in the morning (Eye-opener) to steady your
nerves or to get rid of a hangover?
