Microsoft Corp. designed Bing as a decision engine to offer intelligent search tools that simplify
tasks and help customers make more informed choices, from accessing favorites using mobile
browse to shopping for a product or planning a trip. With Bing, Microsoft is demonstrating
continued commitment to the mobile space and is dedicated to delivering a multiplatform mobile
strategy — rapidly evolving to better meet the needs of consumers. Bing remains focused on
enabling customers to easily discover, access and use the information they need and want,
anytime, anywhere, with the convenience of their mobile devices.
Bing for Mobile Browse Features
Bing can be accessed on any mobile device and multiple browsers through m.bing.com in the
United States only. Bing for Mobile browse offers easy one-click access to local listings,
favorites, maps and more, as well as the automatic Locate Me feature that allows customers to
find, share or save favorite local spots based on distance, popularity and time of day.
Daily homepage image. Bing offers a clean mobile homepage experience, featuring the
Bing daily image with hotspots.
Local. Automatic location detection allows people to search for local hot spots within
half a mile or further from their current location, based on popularity, proximity and time
of day.
Favorites. Easy access to favorite locations makes decisions faster and more informed.
People can access local listings near their Favorites, chart them out on a map or share the
list with friends.
Instant Answers. Answers that immediately return highly relevant direct answers in
response to a specific search.
Real-time transit. Real-time updates for Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and
Los Angeles allow commuters to see if transit options are on schedule, early or delayed,
with predictions for arrival times.
Transit routing. Bing provides the duration of a trip based on walking, transit and traffic
information to make daily commutes and weekend trips faster and easier. Available in
Boston, Chicago, L.A., Minneapolis, New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, San
Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Washington, D.C., and Toronto.
Weather autosuggest and Instant Answers. To find the forecast for your city, just start
typing and Bing will give you the details before you finish.
Weather multiview forecast. The Weather tab now offers four different forecast views,
including a daily overview, an hourly forecast, a 10-day forecast and current weather
patterns on a map.
App search. Available on iPhone only, Bing shows you a list of available iPhone apps
that relate to your search, in addition to normal search results.
Movies. When searching for a movie, Bing organizes them by time and nearest theater,
along with reviews, synopsis, trailers and additional information.
Shopping. Shop faster with Bing’s shopping experience, making it easier to comparison
shop, discover product details and user reviews, and get questions answered.
Mobile Deals. Bing offers nearly 300,000 local coupons across the U.S. from a wide
range of providers, including Groupon, LivingSocial, Restaurant.com, Tippr and many
more. There are more than 10 deal categories offered including restaurants, spa services,
arts and entertainment, and nightlife.
Share on Facebook. Share images, local business details and applications (found in Bing
search results) with your friends on Facebook.
Maps/List Split View. This view provides a dynamic way to synchronize a list such as
directions and a map in a single view, making it easy to see the location of what you’re
searching for. It also works for driving directions and transit.
News. Easily get to the day’s news straight from your homepage. Enjoy the same
categories you’ll find on Bing for the PC: U.S., World, Local (state), Entertainment,
Science/Technology, Business Politics, Sports and Health.
Search history. Bing for Mobile saves a history of your search queries so you can easily
get back to recent searches.
Trending Topics. Popular searches are automatically suggested based on what’s
currently hot on Bing. (This is the same as “Popular now” on bing.com for PC.)
Bing Vision. Search using your phone’s camera. Bring an object into the viewfinder,
hold it still and Bing will detect text and present a highlighter tool to select words for a
search. If the object has a barcode, Bing will instantly return product results. Search for a
nearby business listing by pointing your camera at a landmark.
Voice-guided search. Search without typing, using the voice search functionality. Speak
the search query into the phone and Bing does the rest.
Bing for Mobile iPhone and Android App Features
The Bing for Mobile iPhone and Android apps bring together the best of the Bing for Mobile
browse and Bing for Mobile app experiences, with the goal of creating a consistent and seamless
experience across most mobile platforms and devices. Most features available on m.bing.com are
currently available on the Bing for Mobile iPhone and Android app, including social, local,
entertainment, shopping, mapping and real-time transit features. The apps are available on the
iPhone, iPod Touch and select Android devices in the U.S. and U.K markets. For the full list of

Bing on Windows Phone
Bing on Windows Phone offers quick access to local results and maps in one comprehensive
view. With a search hardware button on every Windows Phone, you’re only a click away from
maps, directions, the Web and more. With the release of Windows Phone 7.5 (aka “Mango”),
Bing now transcends the search box. No longer limited by text, consumers can now search with
voice, audio and vision. Key features of the Bing experience include these:
Voice Search. Conduct hands-free searches using the voice search functionality.
Music Search. Find out what song is playing by letting you phone “listen” to the music.
It not only shows you the name, artist and album, it even shows you where you can hear
or buy it.
Bing Vision. You can now use your phone’s camera to look up product information by
bringing an object into view. Bing will recognize text and present the option to select
words for a search, and instantly return product results if the object has a barcode. Bing
Vision can also detect product information from UPC codes, QR Codes and Microsoft
Tag, as well as cover art for books, CDs, DVDs and video games.
Local Scout. Bing Local Scout provides local search results and recommends nearby
restaurants, shopping and other activities in an easy-to-use guide powered by Bing.
Whether you’re looking for the best brunch or live music in your area, it’s all a tap away.
Simply pick a result and you’ll see everything you need to know — where it’s located,
how to get there, who to call, when it’s open, the website, and even ratings and reviews.
Local Scout results are arranged by these categories:
o Highlights. Top rated and highly reviewed listings
o Eat+Drink. Nearby restaurants
o See+Do. Nearby attractions and activities
o Shop. Nearby stores
App Connect. Ever wonder which app does what? Bing has you covered. Bing search
results now return Windows Phone Marketplace apps that are relevant to what you’re
searching. For example, when you search for movie times, Bing will show you several of
the top movie apps.
Bing for Mobile iPad App Features
The Bing for Mobile iPad app delivers a visually rich, touch-enabled search experience that
aggregates content all in one place. Users can browse news, movies, Bing homepage images,
local business listings and much more, all with the swipe of a finger. In addition, with the new
Trends feature, people can explore top trending searches for the past seven days using the touch-
screen interface to scroll through content. Key features of the Bing iPad app include these:
Lasso. Copy and paste is a thing of the past. With Lasso, click and circle any word or
phrase and Bing will automatically initiate a new search and return results based on the
word or words circled.
Trends. The new Trends feature, available exclusively on the Bing iPad app, allows
users to explore top trending searches for the past seven days using the touch-screen
interface to scroll through content.
Voice Search. Tell Bing what you’re looking for with the integrated Voice Search
capability powered by Microsoft TellMe.
Local and mapping. Use Bing’s integrated local and map experience to find businesses,
get turn-by-turn directions, search real-time transit info and much more.
Image Search. The well-known Bing Image Search feature is better than ever on the
iPad, with an improved, touch-friendly grid view of images that allows users to view
source site details and a full-page preview without leaving the Bing app.
