  Circuit of detector connection to control and reception device by means of the adapting device (US-02)
                                                1. Purpose


1.1. Photoelectric smoke detector EP 212-87 is intended for fire detection in closed dwellings and building
which is accompanied by smoke occurrence of small concentration.
1.2. The detector performs the following functions:
- smoke density measurement;
- measurement results treatment by special software and taking a decision about triggering a "Fire alarm"
signal;
- control and indication of workability of the smoke channel;
- automatic software compensation of dust accumulation in the smoke chamber;
- testing with a laser pointer (distance up to 6m) (supplied at customer's demand);
- automatic calibration mode.
1.3 The detector has a built-in red LED.
1.4 The detector power supply and transmission of a signal "FIRE" is carried out by a two-wire loop of the
signal system and accompanied by activation of a red optical indicator on the detector when an alarm is
triggered.
1.5. Detector is intended for round-the-clock and continuous work with the following devices:
  • Control and reception device of fire alarm system PPKOP 019-8-1 ТУ 4372-010-12215496-00;
  • Control and reception device of fire alarm system PPKOP 0149-40-1 ТУ 4371-035-12215496-03;
  • any other control and reception devices providing supply voltage in a range from 9 up to 30 V
     perceiving notice "FIRE" as spasmodic reduction of detector internal resistance in direct polarity up
     to size no more 500 Ohm.
1.6. Detector can work with devices having a four-wire circuit. For this purpose the adapting device (US-
02) is used. The adapting device is executed in the housing of a standard socket of EP 212-87 detector.
The circuit of EP 212-87 connection to four-wire loops by means of the adapting device (US-02) is given
in the Appendix 4.
1.7. The adapting device US-01 with a resistor 820R and a terminal block, installed into the mounting
bracket, is used for convenience of connecting the detector to the control unit PPKP 0149-40-1 or other
control units with the function of determination of a number of detectors (one or two) triggering the alarm
mode. The circuit of detector connection to a control unit by means of US-01 is given in Appendix 5.
   It is not authorized to connect detector to control and reception
 devices and to independent power supplies without the elements
 limiting a current in a mode "Fire" up to 20 мА.


1.8 The detector supports connection of external optical signaling device (VUOS). The circuit of VUOS
connection is given in Appendixes 3 and 4.
1.9 Detector does not react to temperature change, humidity, flame presence, natural or artificial light.
1.10 Detector is designed for continuous operation at air temperature from - 10° up to +55°С and relative
humidity 95±3 % at temperature +35°С.


                                        2. The basic specifications.
2.1. The detector sensitivity corresponds to smoke content of the environment weakening a light stream
within the limits of 0,05÷0,2 dB/m
2.2. Delay –action ratio is not more then 5 seconds.
2.3. Detector power supply should be carried out by a constant voltage in range from 9 up to 30 V, with
possible alternate stress with duration up to 100 ms with the period of recurrence not less than 0,7 sec.
2.4 Average consumption current in stand-by mode at power voltage 12 V is not more than 95 µA
(maximum consumption current – 150 µA)
2.5. The visual information about detector state of operation is represented by an optical indicator.
Indication modes are resulted in Table 1.

2.6 The output electric signal of detector operation is formed by spasmodic reduction of detector internal
resistance up to size no more than 500 Ohm with running current 20 mA.
2.7 The "FIRE" signal is kept after the ending of influence of combustion products (smoke) on detector.
Dump of a signal of operation is made from the control and reception device by switching-off of power
supply for a while not less than 2 sec
2.8. Size of resistance between contacts "3" and "4" is not more than 2 Ohm.
2.9. Power supply voltage of adapting devices is from 9 up to 15 V.
2.10. Maximum allowable switching current of the adapting device (US-02) is not more than 50 mА.
2.11. Detector maintains capability for work at the influence of:
           • air stream with velocity up to 10 m/sec;
           • background illumination up to 12000 lux from artificial or natural sources of lighting.
 2.12. Overall dimensions of the detector with the socket no more than 106×41 mm.
 2.13. Detector weight with the socket no more than 210 g
 2.14. Color of detector body is white. At the customer’s request, it can be of any color.
 2.15. Average service lifetime is not less than 10 years.
 2.16. The average time between failures should be not less than 60000 hours.

                                           4. Safety precautions


 4.1. On a way of protection against defeat by an electric current detector EP 212-87 concerns to III class
in accordance with All – Union state standard 12.2.007.0-75. Powering the detector is carried out by a
supply voltage of constant current up to 30 V, excluding an electric shock opportunity.
 4.2. Rules of work at height is necessary to observe at the installation and maintenance of the detector


                                      5. Principal of detector work


 5.1. Detector represents the optoelectronic device. Information processing is conducted by an embedded
microcontroller. The detector responds when smoke density in the place of installation exceeds the
threshold level. It is accompanied by spasmodic reduction of detector internal resistance and actuation of
an optical indicator (continuous luminescence).
5.2. Detector represents a design consisting of the plastic housing inside which are placed the
optoelectronic system and the PCB, providing for the microcontroller signal processing. The PCB is
installed on four metal racks simultaneously being contacts for detector connection to the loop of a fire
alarm system. By means of a four-contact parting the detector is joined to the socket installed on a wall or
a ceiling. Detachable detector joint with the socket provides convenience of installation, mounting and
detector service.
5.3. The principle of detector work is based on the control of reflected infra-red radiation from particles
of smoke. In standby mode the microcontroller every 3 sec forms an impulse coming to the IR emitter.
From the photodiode the signal comes through the amplifier to the analog-digital converter of the
microcontroller for processing.
When smoke occurs in the sensitive area of an optical system, IR radiation being reflected from smoke
particles enhances photo response. At exceeding of the threshold level of photo response the
microcontroller states the “Fire” mode. For noise filtration the microcontroller conducts several successive
measurements in one cycle, and if the photo response level didn’t decrease, the detector is triggered into
the “Fire” mode. It is accompanied by continuous luminescence of an optical indicator and actuation of
VUOS signal. The return of the detector to the “Standby” mode from the "Fire" mode will take place, if
power supply will be taken off from the detector for not less than 2 sec.
   For false alarms elimination due to dust accumulation in the smoke chamber, the automatic
compensation algorithm of contamination of the smoke chamber is applied in the detector. This is not
accompanied by sensitivity changing of the detector. When the contamination of the smoke chamber does
not exceed 80% of the critical value, the detector produces recurring double flashes of the LED once in 3
sec. The detector in this mode performs all of its operation functions.
   Recurring thrice-repeated flashes of the LED once in 3 sec indicate that the contamination of the smoke
chamber has reached the critical value.
   After cleaning of the smoke chamber the detector automatically restores its workability (signalization
goes off maximum in 30 sec).
5.4 In case of an optical channel malfunction the microcontroller forms the indication “Optoelectronic
   couple failure”. The LED produces recurring fourfold flashes once in 3 sec.
5.5 The detector checking is conducted by pointing of a special laser pointer beam onto LED. The detector
   should trigger the “Fire” mode. Damping is done from the control and reception device.
   NOTE: The laser pointer is not supplied in complete set of items, but delivered at customer’s demand.
5.6 Short-circuited contacts "3" and "4" of the detector provide an opportunity of formation in a loop of a
control and reception device of a "Fault" mode at withdrawal detector from the socket.


6. Accommodation, the order of installation and preparing detector for operation


 6.1. Accommodation and utilization should be guided by the following documents:
  • Installations of fire-fighting and alarm systems. Norms and rules of designing. НПБ 88-01.
  • “Standard rules of technical content of fire automatics ", authorized by State Fire Fighting Service of
     the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
  • All-Union sanitary norms of 25-09.68-85 “Rules of manufacturing and acceptance of work.
     Installations of security fire alarm systems ".

6.3. Installation of detectors on walls, beams, columns, cables at the distance not more than 300 mm from
a ceiling is supposed. (Normal of Fire safety 88-01)
6.4. Detector can work in the conditions corresponding to an atmosphere of category I in accordance with
All – Union state standard 15150-69. (Stability to influence of corrosive agents).
6.5. The dust content of the enclosed space (chemically inactive and noit electrically conducting dust) in
which the detector is maintained, should not exceed concentration of 5 mg / m ³.
6.6. At reception of detectors it is necessary to prepare a workplace, to open packing, to check up
completeness according to the passport. To check up date of manufacturing, presence of a sign on the
certificate of compliance and fire safety.
6.7. Remove a protective cap from the detector before installation and utilization.
6.8. To make visual inspection of detectors, to be convinced of absence of evident mechanical injury
(cracks, dents, etc.).
6.9. If detectors were in conditions of negative temperatures, then before switching on, they are necessary
to be sustained not less than 4 hours at room temperature for prevention of condensation of a moisture
content inside the case.
6.10 Fasten the mounting bracket in the place of detector installation and make wire connections
obtaining polarity.
6.11. Fix the socket in the installation place of the detector according to the project and connect loop wires
to it, observing the polarity
6.12. Upon completing of installation of the entire system it is necessary:
                 • To set the standby operating mode of the system with the help of the control and
                    reception device;
                 • To check the workability of the detector by inserting for 5 sec a needle into the smoke
                    chamber through the hole in the detector cover;
                 • To be convinced of detector’s response by switching on of the red optical indicator on
                    the detector case and by reception of a "FIRE" signal by the control and reception
                    device;
                 • To set up standby operating mode of system;
                 • To take detector out of the socket;
                 • To be convinced of reception of a "FAULT" signal by control and reception device;
                 • To insert detector into the socket;
                 • To set up standby operating mode of system.
6.13. When carrying out redecoration works in apartments where fire detectors are installed their
protection against mechanical injury and ingress of building materials, dust and moisture should be
provided.
                      7.      Maintenance service and check of a technical status
7.1. Not less than once in six months blow through the detector by compressed air during one minute from
different sides of optical system, using for this purpose a vacuum cleaner or other compressor with
pressure of 1-2 kg / sm2.
7.2. After that check up detector operation in a fire alarm system.


                                                   8. Packing.


  8.1. Packing of detectors in quantity up to 27 units according to table 1 and the passport in one unit of
packing is made from drawings of manufacturer on type III-1 All –Union state standard 2991-85 or to
type of III All –Union state standard 5959-80.
8.2.     Detector       is     exposed        to       preservation   according       to     requirements
All –Union state standard 9.014-78. Detector refers to group III-1, the version of detector packing ВУ-
5, a version of temporary anticorrosive protection В3-10.
                         9. Possible malfunctions and ways of their elimination.




  9.1. In the detector is implemented the mode of automatic diagnostics. The list of possible malfunctions
and ways of their elimination are resulted in Table 4.

                                            10. Transportation and storage
10.1. Transportation of detectors is carried out by all types of transport, except by air and sea. The
transport container should be protected from direct ingress of precipitates.
10.2 Plastic caps are provided for smoke chamber protection from dust during transportation and storage.
10.3. Arrangement and fastening of boxes with detectors in carrier vehicles should provide their steady
position, exclude an opportunity of displacement of boxes and impacts them to each other, and also about
walls of vehicles.
10.4. The value of climatic and mechanical influences at transportation should correspond to
requirements of All –Union state standard 12997-84.
10.5. Detector storage in packing in stockrooms of the manufacturer and the consumer should correspond
to conditions of storage 2 in accordance with All –Union state standard 15150-69.


                                       11. Acceptance certificate and packing.

                                     12. Manufacturer's guarantees.


12.1. The manufacturer guarantees compliance of the detector to requirements of specifications if the
consumer observes transportation, storage and operation conditions stipulated by ТУ 4371-006-12215496-
00.
12.2. Detector comes with 18 months warranty from date of putting detector in operation or 24 months
from the moment of manufacturing.
12.3. Replacement during a warranty period of operation is carried out by the manufacturer free of charge.
The manufacture is not liable for defects arising from improper utilization and installation by the
customer.
12.4. In case of the detector failure during warranty service is necessary to return it with the present
passport to the address:
