DNA Molecule
DNA is the code for all the necessary instructions to keep a cell alive.
There are four nucleotide bases (n.b.)
The four bases are Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, Cytosine
Adenine and Guanine have two rings in their molecules. (purines) BONUS
Thymine and cytosine have only 1 ring. (pyrimidines) BONUS
When the DNA is wound up tight, it is called a chromosome
When its spread out, its called a chromatin
Adenine always binds with Thymine
Guanine always binds with Cytosine
DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid.
It has a backbone made out of sugar and phosphate groups
The nucleotide bases connect to the sugar.
Two chromatids connect at a Centromere
Each Chromosome pair is made from a chromatid from mom, and
one chromatid from dad.
DNA is in the Nucleus of eukaryotic cells.
The DNA molecule is a double helix shape.
Eukaryotic cells, usually have more than one chromosomes which are linear.
