Making a Difference
Spooktacular Fall Fun for October
WOW!!! What a great turn out for our first 2011-2012 meeting (and post meeting too). It was nice to
see so many familiar faces and LOTS of new faces. Hope everyone is as excited about this year as I
am. We have so many great activities planned and as you have heard from Erica, Rachele and
Miriam ,the Snow Ball planning is well on its' way. Please remember to sign up to volunteer for a
committee that interests you. Everyone should help out with the Snow Ball in some capacity -
whether it's planning, fundraising or decorating.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 3rd. The Board members will meet at 6:15 and
the general meeting will begin at 7:00. We would like to start the business part of the meeting by
7:15. Babysitting will again be provided, so bring your kids along if you can't find a sitter. The
donation is just $2 per family. A reminder that membership dues of $30 should be paid by September
30th. If you haven't paid yet, please forward your check to Kristin Lio or Camille Cecere. If paid after
9/30, dues are $35.
As if September wasn't busy enough, we have lots planned for October. A visit to the pumpkin patch
planned by Melissa Orbin and Adrienne Hoolahan, Oktoberfest at the Lio's house, the poster painting
contest organized by Kelly Sebastian and of course an Oakmont tradition - the Halloween Parade-
organized by Kathy Migely.
Remember to bring a friend to the meeting!! Whether it's a current member that doesn't always come
to meetings or a new member, we would love to see them on October 3rd.

For our October activity, after the RWA meeting, we are going to have a KID and ADULT costume
swap!! This is a great way to clear out some closet space and recycle great costumes that we may
have accumulated over the years/decades. Please bring in any size and any type of costume to our
meeting and browse at the selections.
Of course after all this fun we will take time to unwind at Hoffstots. See you there!

SNOW BALL PLANNING WELL UNDER WAY
Hi everybody! It's me again, your friendly and somewhat annoying Snow Ball chair for 2012! We had
our first Snow Ball meeting and big "Thank you" to Jill, Natalie, and Tara for helping Miriam, Rachele,
and I get the ball rolling. We welcome everyone to our second meeting on Sunday, October 16th at
7:00 p.m. The children of Tenth Street have off the following day, so when Dad puts them to bed late
it won't matter much!
We made some great decisions at the last meeting that we would like to share. First and foremost,
we decided on a menu. I think we picked a great selection of food, served buffet style that will still
allow us to make a little profit from the ticket. Second, we decided to have both reserved and open
seating. If you would like a reserved table, we will do that for you. All you need to do is organize
eight other people that you want to be seated with you and all the tables tickets must be paid for by
the due date (yet to be determined). If these two requirements are met, we will be happy to reserve a
table for you. We cannot at this time reserve a table for two or four people. So start asking around to
complete your table if you are interested in a reserved table. And lastly, we will not be able to sell
tickets at the door this year because of the somewhat reserved seating and the club needing a final
count. If you are paying at the door, there will be a $10.00 per ticket increase. So please, we are
encouraging everyone to send their R.S.V.P's on time to avoid this charge.
At this last meeting, we also tackled donations from businesses in town. There is a list of businesses
below that the committee had no contacts at and we wanted to ask for some help. We all agreed if
you know someone, or frequent the shop, we are more likely to receive a donation. Therefore, if
anyone knows anyone from the following businesses and would be willing to take our donation letter
to them, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know.
1. Mighty Oak Barrel 15. The Guiding Light
2. Tomanetti's Pizza 16. Wildwood Interiors
3. Veltre's 17. Robert Hallett Goldsmith
4. Vocelli Pizza 18. Robert Currens Jewelers
5. Citizen's Bank 19. Lon Michael's Salon and Spa
6. First Niagara Bank 20. Oakmont Skin Care and Electrolysis
7. Catherina 21. Blvd Eyes
8. LaPerla 22. Meg L. Burkhardt, Esq.
9. Bloomers Floral Studio 23. Devin Hallett Synder, Attorney
10. Burket-Truby Funeral Home 24. Wimer Law offices, P.C.
11. English Funeral Home 25. State Farm Insurance
12. Mystery Lovers Bookshop 26. Home Instead Senior Care
13. Imperial Cleaners of Oakmont 27. Thermo-Twin Industries, Inc
14. Home and the Holidays 28. The Oaks Theater
On a corporate level, we need to know if anyone has any contacts for the following businesses:
Walgreens, Target, Rite - Aid, and UPMC. Corporate level means donations of $500.00 or more.

Snow Ball (cont’d)
Also, remember your check books if you are
participating in the payment plan for the Snow
Ball. If you are starting in October, Rachele
will have payment coupons for the members.
If you pay $50.00 for the month of September
and October, in one month your single ticket
will be paid in full. If you are buying two
tickets to the Snow Ball, you will still pay
$25.00 a month. The only difference is that
you will be paying this cost for four months. If
you think of it this way, by the month of
February, you and your date will only owe us
$25.00 to go to the Snow Ball. This will free
up funds to hire a baby sitter and (one last
plug!) buy our newly created 100% direct Kristin Lio modeling the stunning citrine necklace she won
donation to our community charities and at the 2010 Snow Ball Champagne Raffle
scholarship fund by buying our $100.00
package. Remember the package contains:
1) A yet to be set amount of raffle tickets. Whether we choose an arm's length, or 25 tickets.
The cost out of the tickets outside the package will be $50.00, in the package it will cost
$40.00. A savings of $10.00.
2) A coin to play "heads or tails" with the Grand prize of a big screen TV. Out of package cost
is $30.00 and in the package the cost is $20.00. A $10.00 savings.
3) A glass of champagne and chance to win the donated piece of jewelry.
4) A man's drink (or another glass of champagne) with a yet to be donated prize to entice the
Lastly, if you did not bring a bottle of wine to the last meeting and are in a position to do so, please
bring your bottle to our October meeting. Thank you to those who brought a bottle to the last
meeting! We have about 6 bottles, a nice start. However, we need a lot more. If everyone bought just
one bottle, we would have over 100 bottles! Please help us out if you can.
Thank you again for helping us out and we hope to see you at my house, 816 Woodland Ave, for our
second meeting of the minds on Sunday, October 16th at 7:00 p.m.

Ice Ice Baby!
Hoping you have seen some activity in lower Riverside Park lately. We are on the way to new tennis
courts, new track, new playground, and more. BUT, those serve us in the warm weather.
How about enjoying our park in the winter…we have a plan!
Skaters, hockey players, average Joes, Grandparents……let’s put up a seasonal ice rink! We have
all the details, but need some extra cash. We can do this now, for this winter, but we need donations.
Would you consider writing a check? $25, $50, $100, more?
This is a last minute request to try to make this
happen one year earlier than we would otherwise,
so please contact Molly at
email@example.com for particulars.
Time is of the essence! (Exclusive naming rights
available---please ask for details) We must have
donations in by October 3rd to get our rink ordered
